Hi Tom. Thankyou for your videos, l love watching them. I come from near Manchester in England and fish stillwaters. I find your footage very inspiring and it gives me lots of ideas. I tie my own flies too, and your fly box gives me lots of ideas too. I'm a fifty year old single guy. My dream was to work a few more years and then fly fish my retirement in the beautiful countryside of Wales, where my family and I have holidays so much. I've worked hard all my life. However, having never been a smoker or drinker and always looked after myself, I was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, stage four and given so long. So maybe I won't manage it, or maybe in another life?. Who knows. Your footage definitely helps me along. Thankyou for giving your time so that we may fish better and catch more. Best wishes to you, Ian.

1st indicator, bobber fishing I knew about was being used on the hatchery grounds of the Caledonia Spring Creek. Water was crystal clear, 4 to 6 feet deep and slow moving. Even though on hatchery grounds the wild brown trout were notoriously selective and hard to catch. The great bulk of their diet in the drift was and still is midge larvae and pupae. The best fisherman of the era fished very simple thread flies that took less than a minute to tie. A scud pattern was developed there documented in the early 70's in Fly Fisherman Magazine. As a teenager Tom learned tof fish these waters well.

Needless to say I was wrong! I’m hooked on it now! I have an outdoor KZbin channel and would love to do a collaborative video with you! I’m planning on going up into the high Unitas for 3 days without food or water, just bringing minimal gear for sleeping, cooking and catching fish. I would love to bring an orvis rod and reel, or have the company of another person or two to teach survival skills to and of course to learn more about fly fishing! Please let me know if you would be interested in coming along!

Thanks for a great video. I would add this trick. The folks from Thigamabobber make a mini version called the Unibobber. It's made to be tied into A dry fly, but I have been using them as an indicator. They're almost as sensitive as New Zealand wool, but you don't have to fuss with desiccant. I put a bobber stop on either side for easy adjustment. They won't suspend a #8 Polish Woven nymph with a tungsten bead but for spring creek stuff it's been a successful technique for me

One very fine indicator was overlooked sadly a high floating small red ,orange ,green ,ball that does not mess up kink yer line, has a small center hole that slides up & down Tippet as need be with 1 or 2 small pointed tooth pic points as holders in place ,Item Does not come of unless tippet line breaks of above it ,2. Item does not inhibit air as much as scary Yarns, never needs to be dried / treated with those nasty chemicals or dried toxic powders . This is a durable hard core indicator high visibility and last a season in short 7.5 ft to 9ft leaders used and fished 3 ft deep or more on more were durable tippet exists . I tied my own Fluorocarbon Tippets with first 5 ft 15lb for plenty for average fresh water trout up to 10lbs ,3 to 4' ft of 7lb tippet 6-7 mm which handles 10 to size 22 flies easily with 5/6 wt fly rods or lower 3/4 wt bigger 7/8 .get on the ball with indicators . keep waters safe not add to? ps Most flies can be made lead free with glass or brass bead heads or aluminum wire not LEAD! Want to have a lead head toxic heavy metals in blood forever ? Please advise wisely ok John? keep waters clean ?

Great video, Tom. I’ve been fishing nymphs under an indicator for some 40 years, and I learned some new things to try on my next outing. I’m curious about the reel setup: You appear to be right handed, so why have the reel mounted so that your right hand has to crank the reel? As a right-hander, I like to have the rod in my right hand and reel with my left. Maybe it’s just personal preference, but if there’s an advantage to mounting on the right side, I’d be interested in learning.

Great visual of the way it is tied in. Did you ever show this procedure in any of your videos? Excellent production [as they all are] and really enjoyable seeing you in them.
