After Black, Chrome is my next favorite character in the game. He's not as Naive as Royal or as jaded and sad as Black. But over the course of the game, in a verrrrrry casual progression, he becomes more and more twisted by his increasing power and almost accidental success. By the end he's gone from a practical (if a bit flowery ) leader into a delusional proto-despot. The writing of the "villians" in this game was so good.

General Chrome is a truly interesting character, I am still puzzled as to if he really believed the things he said.

Zachary Feldman I'd say he believed them because it came easy, the moment he was confronted with his mortality he went out raving and naked.

Pretty much the first scene of General Chrome sums up his entire story; he is misguided. He is charismatic, and has many devoted followers that would follow his command over the rule of Mother, such like Tolo. His ideals of creating a world united under a single desire for order and peace definitely sounds great, but he ignores the impossible nature of achieving those ideals and tries to force it upon others. Doesn't help that the circumstances bolster his beliefs, anyone who'd survive an almost certain death situation would have a drastic influences in thought. He truly thought he had experienced divine intervention when Nobel threw that syringe at his thigh, and he had been blessed by the almighty 'Him', even though in truth the syringe was an unarmed one. Elro only had two of his agent killing syringes armed. One was used to kill Grey, the other was most likely for Black at the tower, but failed. In the end, Chrome gets a pretty HARSH wake up call by Elro, a chemist who bases his thoughts in facts, facts that Chrome neglected throughout his spiritual journey. Oddly enough, Chrome did experience divine intervention, but in moments that he was absolutely unaware of it; saving Robin whenever she was at the most dire of situations.

Freaddy fuck off elro bases his opinions on fact. He spends 4 5ths of the game pissing and moaning about going home and killing 2 people for no reason but hid own mental instability Chrome tried doing the right thing the wrong way Same as a lot of people in this game And btw. Elro wanted the same thing as chrome ,a world without a self serving rule, before he FUCKING SNAPS after karma caught up to him Tl;dr Chrome, secret protagonist lol

My favorite "arrogant facade" character ever. Spends the whole game being all self-assured and holier-than-thou, and the second he's actually threatened he fully breaks and reveals himself to be as human as the rest of us.

shame, i kinda liked chrome. he kinda had to die of course though- you can see before his death that power was starting to go to his head (as shown by how he tries to get robin to let him kill her so that theres no one to rival his power)- its kinda ironic how what he said about tolo would have become true about him had he lived. still, its kinda a shame- his ideas actually seemed pretty good, and were a nice contrast to pretty much half the other characters in the game that could only think about themselves...

i notice something, in the arm-helicopter scene chrome only have one mechanical leg, maybe in the beta the helicopter battle was before and in that battle chrome lose his other leg

I think that’s a sprite error. He probably was planned to only have 1 mechanical leg, and the helicopter sprite for him wasn’t fixed after both where mechanicalized. Look at any earlier scene and you’ll see both legs are robotic

Another case of being crushed by one's own hubris. But unlike Royal, I find Chrome's death very satisfying. Nonetheless, he was right about one thing: Tolo would later become a villain. I hope this game will have a sequel. But first thing first! Some DLCs like Shovel Knight's Plague of Shadows, Specter of Torment and King of Cards to tie things up! I wanna know more about Black's past, Robin's father, Royal and Mother's past, who Him is ( an alien? ), how the Moon(s) was/were broken, and the formation of the One Concern.

I think there were a lot of things that chrome was right about, to be honest. Obviously the whole background of the religion that they were using as a source was fake, but Chrome pulls a lot of insightful things from it and he genuinely seems like a man of the people. Granted, he wanted to be seen as a messiah, but I dont think that changes anything. Black's right, Chrome is a narcisist. But I don't think that discredits everything he's said and done. In the end, all people are selfish, even if the things they value don't prioritize self-preservation.

I think he’s kinda similar to Jim Jones. Charming, fanatic in his own way, but more militaristic than Jones.

Well the key difference here is that Jim Jones convinced people to kill themselves, whereas Chrome believed that he could solve things by sacrificing influential leaders (including himself) to save others. I kinda see what you're saying though.

I think Chrome makes a lot of good observations about the religion. He does however make a huge mistake, while he realizes that the religious leaders are just acting on selfishness, he does not make the same realization about their god "He". Not only did that make him falsely assume he was protected against Elro's weapon, even if Elro hadn't killed him, the Starworm would have given him the same treatment as he gave Royal.
