I'd like to comment about the box of food. There was a time in 2009 during the recession when I was in the process of losing my house and didn't have a job. I didn't have kids but I had no steady income. I don't know how I survived or how I ate, but I survived and met diabetes on the other side. However, those few groceries no matter what they were would have been a massive blessing to me. Until you've had to survive at that level, judging anyone else's food source is completely unnecessary. Renea, I love your channel. I love that you are at many levels dedicated to helping your entire community by keeping them fed. Thank you. There should be more of you on this planet.

We had to sell our farm & buy a foreclosed on house in town during the recession. I got sick & had to leave my career. I had to have yard sales to get enough grocery money to feed my son & husband. I’ve been a frugal shopper all my life, but began really buying in bulk, mass preserving & prepping my food storage after that. Once you go from having money to spare to nothing to eat, you know what desperate lengths you’d go to feed your family.
@debrawallace4542 Жыл бұрын
It happened to us also. My husband was laid off for 4 months. He went from a great job to being laid off in the blink of an eye in a massive layoff. If we hadn't had food storage to eat from, I don't know what we would have done. The money we had coming in went to keeping up with the bills and getting the house ready to sell since my husband was applying all over the country. The same week he was laid off, the company that laid him off sent him a beautiful clock with a letter congratulating him for working there for 20 years. We never had to move either. He was offered a job a little more than an hour away. We have since moved, the kids grew up and left, and he is still working with the same company and planning on retiring in a year. Our food storage was never meant to be for when the zombies come. I worked hard storing that food and still do. It's for when normal things happen like job loss and illness.

Amen! I have been trying to put together a surplus and fill a pantry for hard times myself. My hubby thinks I’m crazy, lol. However, as times have been getting harder and harder and prices r going up and up he not laughing so much anymore. It doesn’t have to be a “zombie apocalypse” it just takes a failing economy to make it all fall apart. We r all just a couple of paychecks away from being in trouble out here. I pray u all r living an abundantly blessed life ❤

Renae, listening to you explain how you made dinners for your children when they were growing up. This reminded me of my precious mom. I am 75 and my mom raised 6 kids by herself and never ask for help from anyone. She absolutely refused. She worked full time as a salesclerk and came home and cooked a hot meal for us, made sack lunches for us the night before and served a hot breakfast. We did not know we were poor we just thought this was how everyone else lived. A person does what they have to do for their children. Thanks for the memories. Hugs Betty

Same for me. I'm 66 and my mom was not allowed work (by my father), and he did absolutely nothing at home - he was a truck driver and had the mentality that his role was only to bring money in. She waited on him hand & foot and raised all 6 of us by herself. She not only was a great cook, but cut the grass, sided the house, was involved in our schooling, taught us how to sew, knit, and iron. She made most of our clothes. My dad was like having another piece of furniture in the room. Never said anything and you had to read his expressions to know what he wanted, was thinking, etc.; and he could talk - chose not to, unless he needed another beer. No matter what, we had 3 meals a day and she made my lunch for school till I was in high school - she insisted; and there was a lot of love in that lunch bag. She passed away in 2020 - I miss her more than you can imagine. And he's gone now too, 2022. I cook a lot like Renae - big batches - same style.

Once again, a terrific video! I'm so happy you said what you did about the comment about not being comfort food. I am 55 years old and I come from the time where sometimes there literally wasn't anything to cook so you had to take what you got and make anything with love. I was very fortunate to never know hunger and was never picky because what we had was what we had. Comfort food is food made with love no matter what or how much it is. ❤ I love your TV dinners. I can't say enough how much I love your style. I hope you and John have a wonderful Easter and enjoy with your family.

My husband is putting a rub for the chicken together in the kitchen (he never cooks) and he just came to me with a handful of measuring spoons and asked me, “How do you tell which is a teaspoon and which is a tablespoon?”! How does a man get to be 65 and not know that?😂. He is way too spoiled. 😂

I've always had to doctor up a little of this & that to come up with meals for my family too. You have to think creatively but it can always be done. I always buy devil's food cake mixes when they're on sale. I add 2 eggs, 1/3 c. oil & a package of peanut butter chips. It will be stiff and I can't always fit in all the chips. Roll into 1" balls and flatten slightly. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until slight indentation remains when lightly touched. Renea, they are melt in your mouth chocolate, peanut butter cookies! No one ever guesses they start with a box cake mix! Have a Happy Easter!

Whatever food someone gives me is a blessing! You are truly an Angel for how you help others! When my kids were little, single mom with four kids, down to the last little bit of food in the house, I somehow made delicious meals and don’t even remember how I did it! The kids still ask me to make certain meals, but I honestly can’t remember what I made! I remember cupboards being near empty and a church blessed us with boxes of food and we were so grateful. I’ve been married almost 50 years and there was a time when we first got married that we didn’t have a lot of money for groceries. We didn’t tell anyone but when we walked out of church we had bags of food in the car. It felt like we won the lottery! And here we are 49 years later and learning new cooking ideas from you. Renea, you are a gift from God and have blessed so many families. I have had so many customers that have come in so excited that their family enjoyed your different dinner ideas.
