At a certain point people are going to have to owe it to themselves to never watch a single minute of RTE programming ever again. I'm tempted to make a video on this topic, as an Irish citizen but also as an educator and researcher its embarrassing to have to explain to work colleagues from other countries why we have to pay a tv license on top of taxes to subsidies the failing black hole that is the Irish state media. If it was a subscription based service it would collapse in a day.

Subliminal and surrogate advertising can be illegal. I estimate the amount over 8 years for RTE, TV3 and some local radio stations was 10 million. The biggest clients were Eirgrid and many wind energy companies and companies selling green stuff. Why did the Auditors not spot this over several years? Only a joint Garda/Accounting investigation will get anywhere near it all. I am Val Martin.

1) Wind up RTE! 2) Sell-off the commercial wing. 3) Transfer the public service broadcasting wing to TG4 (headquarters in Galway). 4) Option # 1 - Sell Montrose to private developers and use the funds to build public housing 5) Option # 2 - Don't sell Montrose - let the government use the land to build public housing.

if its a case that rte had to wine and dine possible advertisers it would have been a better selling point if rte could prove to it potential clients what rte has going for it. RTE management were just awarding themselves abd kicking tax payers in the balls.

This stinks!! These top earners where getting cars on “Loan” for years??? Rubbish, these cars where Benefit in Kind (BIK) awards, that were off the books and labelled as a “loan” This is pure tax evasion, and that’s what should be pursued. If this is tax evasion, then RTE is involved in criminality - which means it is illegal to knowingly finance an enterprise involved in criminality - so technically it is illegal to pay your TV licence as you are knowingly financing a criminal enterprise!! This is a lid they do not want to open- as it makes our TV licence refundable. And anyone who has gone to prison for not paying it should sue the hell out of them!!

The big question is did he pay income tax on the hidden payments. The amount of corruption inside rte is mind blowing and it should be closed down or at the very least have its public funding withdrawn. Time they stood on their own feet so they won’t just burn through tax payers money

I’d agree with you if it was a private company. But here we have very well paid people, entertaining other very well paid people, being paid for with tax payers money. Could the health service use that money, the Garda, schools, transport. Not so long ago the firefighters were almost on strike.

They are spending this money to help convince these other higher paid agencies and clients to spend even more on advertising. Everyone wants to advertise around the toy show but what about Saturday afternoon TV when repeats of 1960s cowboy movies are on - you win this business through relationships and with this entertaining. Ok maybe a couple of them exploited it, bringing their spouse on the jolly, and this should be tidied up but in generally it’s normal business.

@@obriena10000 again I’ve no problem with that kind of behaviour if it was a private company. I do have a problem spending tax money on this kind of thing. If they have this kind of money to splash around, then maybe they don’t need public money. They can’t have it both ways.
