If they submit to such demands of one country then countries like China, India, and Africa with bigger sales capacity than indonesia can also do the same. I think Indonesian people not only loose apple but many western brands might withdraw their future investments because of these reasons. Anyways, Indonesian people can live without some advanced technologies, it's just that they might be losing brands that's it.

The 40% rules can be stretched out to principal and distributor companies, if they are indonesian company with Indonesians workers then that can used to fulfill some of the 40% rules, so not all 40% have to be locally made components. I know this because I'm from Indonesia worked in a state owned company, and has been involved in tech device procurements. There was quite a confusion when this rules applied first-time, when we procures laptops for our company, there was a huge resistance from the top management to use locally made brand since they are inferior to global brands such as HP, Lenovo and the likes. We still bought the global brand anyway, and justified it with the day the laptops procurement's had been approved, to be one day ahead before the we applied the 40% rules.
