Great attention to detail. That’s what separates a true mechanic. Great job.

That's a great idea! I'm always looking for ways to improve my workflow. I actually have a spare table in the middle of the shop, setting up moving everything over there now so I can just slide the decks from one table to the other to work on them
@outlet69897 күн бұрын
A friend and I watched the video together. When you moved the mower deck to the small work table, we started taking bets on how long it would take for the deck to hit the floor. We didn't take any bets on how much damage that would cause you.
@IndRepair7 күн бұрын
You both bet on a certain time and it didn't quite get there. Sure would have hurt if it did! New setup coming soon will make it much easier for videos and in general. Just did it this way to better show it than it being flat but not the most safe thing in the world no doubt!

Nice job. Just some regular maintenance, and equipment can last a long time. I have a 2004 Murray 40 inch cut. I do maintenance a lot, just simple stuff. Oil changes, oil filter change air filters, keep blades sharpened, and check belts, and spindles. About 3 years ago the engine started blowing oil out. Took the engine apart, and the top compression ring was broke . Instead of fixing the engine I replaced it with a Kohler V twin 25 horsepower. Compared to the Briggs 12.5 horsepower, the kohler was a great upgrade.
@IndRepair8 күн бұрын
Wow I bet that thing doesn't miss a beat going through some tall stuff!
@bertgrau39348 күн бұрын
@IndRepair No sir. Tall or thick grass the engine doesn't bog. However if something stops a blade, parts get tore up quickly. Happened once, the engine didn't bog or slow at all, it ripped the drive pulley in two, broke the blade adapter, and stripped the spindle shaft. I had the parts in stock to repair. Even with that, I'm still happy with Kohler engine.

@@bertgrau3934 Yeah, all that extra torque there be careful to police for foreign object no doubt!

Neglect of that deck is crazy. Also was it possible to add grease Zerks to the blade housing to keep those bearings greased? Extend the life of them?
@IndRepair7 күн бұрын
It sure is! You can add grease zerks to anything but they would never be greased if I set it up that way

First thing I'd do is clean all that grass and debris off the deck before even attempting to work on it. Next, put the deck on a larger surface so you're not fighting the deck while working on it. You can get a bearing press kit for under $100 that'll press in both bearings at the same time and save you time and fighting the deck bouncing around, falling over, etc while hammering in the bearings. I do bicycle work and bought a press kit that fits 20 different bearing sizes. Just used it the other day on my neighbor's mower for this same job. Get yourself one. Well worth the money and the time it'll save you.
@IndRepair7 күн бұрын
Yeah for sure! Ihave another table in the other area so I am in the middle of getting everything set up and moved over so I can just slide the deck out onto it. The funny part is I have a large and small bearing press kit just never pull them out. When I am not fighting the deck it works well and is quick with a punch
@paulmorak81848 күн бұрын
I was just wondering why you didn't lube any of the nuts and bolts and shafts up before you put it back together
@IndRepair8 күн бұрын
The shafts of the spindles do not need additional lube. The nuts/bolts being installed on the bearing (bushing) for the idler arm and the ones for the idler pulleys with just a nut/bolt will come back off without issue since they have a nut. The one into the deck is a different story why we used antiseize on it and the one that will be under the mower
