I don’t know if anyone else that would have taken that much time on blades to make it right. That customer should been darn happy he/she has you working on it. He\she will now have a great cut. Hope they appreciate you.

I wish they would but sometimes people are on a tight budget and can only do what they can. I try to work with them much as I can but I try to plan for what I think is going to happen. Luckily I suspected based on the condition of the deck that we may run into some issues and had the parts on hand

It's simply amazing to me What an excellent job you did on diagnosing the needs of the machine. And that all of your recommendations were, in fact, completely necessary to protect the larger investment of the entire unit and to ensure the machine in top working condition. And then, the customer for whatever stupod reason, the customer will not make the minor investments to protect the larger investment of his entire machine. One example is the leak test on the head gasket. It just tells me that the old saying, "A fool and his money go Different ways." , is still applicable today. You must see it a lot. One thing you didn't check was the valve clearance tolerances and if they were in spec. But, I assume that they were because you would have obviously picked that up. Thanks martin for a very thorough diagnosis. Always a pleasure to see you a pro like you at your craft. Take care. 👍👍👍

I appreciate all of your kind words of encouragement! You are right on with your saying! I did mention it would be a good time to check and adjust and did check recommend the adjustment along with many other things and I was met with a "just do what it needs immediately". I did take a quick look and they were not too far off but I should have mentioned the correct gaps. I am sure it will be back for head gaskets soon and we will get it done then

@@IndRepair we will be selling our business by the end of the year bud, me and the wife decided running a whole ass business just isn’t for us, we were doing great, very profitable,but I planned on being a police officer here in town anyways. I’m trying to get 45,000$ for all the coffee equipment, tables, signage, fridge, freezer, inventory, and of course built into that price is the proof of concept that a handcrafted beverage shop can absolutely succeed where we’re at. We have a spotless reputation and are fully engrained in the community. I don’t think I’ll end up getting the 45,000$ that I’d like, but a gentleman said he’s gonna let me know by the end of the week and another woman is trying to get her husband and best friend to come together to buy it so we will see 🤷♂️

When I power wash my mower before maintenance or repairs, I place it on my sloping driveway. I use my leaf blower to pre-clean it. After I power wash it, I use it again to remove any water, which only takes a few minutes.

How do you charge them for the spindles when they only okay to replace 1
@IndRepair3 ай бұрын
Sometimes you do not have a choice but to do things like this. They would be much more upset about getting a mower back that doesn't cut even at all then to pay a few more dollars. We do estimates but these are only that. Things dont always go as planned. I called and explained things were not lining up after we needed to replace the second spindle and he said only do what you have to. I explain what the process is to level out and unfortunately all three had to be replaced as a part of this. Not ideal but communication is the best way to handle these things
@paulmonk78203 ай бұрын
You know, watching the spindle installation and tedious height adjustment, why not use longer bolts, install them with the washers used for spacing from the bottom, and put nuts on the top of the deck? 😮 46:59

Smaller bolts I guess you are saying so it's easier to remove and add spindles?

Don''t understand why people don't take a few minutes to clean up their machines. With the repairs you suggested, the proper Maintenace and a bath now and then the machine would last a life time.

Two things, Martin. On that center spindle I probably would use one or two deck repair rings instead of multiple washers, but I only work alone out of my garage and don’t always have the time crunch a larger shop might have to order them. The other thing is I highly recommend all the deck-related videos from Russ The Deck Doctor, but in this case pertaining to a better method of removing spindle bolts without snapping them off. In this video in the comments Russ mentions a new method he’s using that seems to be very effective. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqPQhGeAmtl0mdU
@IndRepair3 ай бұрын
The deck repair rings work well for stressed metal issues when trying to re-enforce the top of the deck. I do not think they really offer any advantage on the bottom for spacing since the washers make contact with the entire aluminum tab where the ring would miss much of this area on this style spindle. I watched the video you recommended, and this looks like a great way to fix an issue with a spindle if the bearings are good to begin with (they were not in good shape anyway). In this case there is no way to spin and drill new holes since they are just single tabs. I do stock deck repair rings here but have never found them to be good for leveling spindles (not to say they will not work well in some cases)
