I do love the "old fashioned" English puddings. Being out most of the day I find little time to make things properly! For my bread and butter pudding I go to the "reduced counter" at my s/market and if luck is on my side I can buy oldish/stale-ish hot cross buns. They make a nice b&b pudding. I well butter them and add sultanas...Well, that's how I do it...

I love bread pudding made with stale biscuits. (USA) is that a variation of this bread and butter pudding or something else all together. It’s made with a custard poorer in a pan, crumbled biscuits and raisins added and baked.
@unclemattscookerylessons4 жыл бұрын
Hi Elli, when you refer to biscuits I think of cookies, we're separated by a common language aren't we? I think you mean something like our scones which I think would work nicely in place of bread. You can use any bread or pastry product that will absorb the raw custard, like croissants, brioche or even doughnuts, its a great way of utilising up ingredients. Thanks

I just made it on a whim when I came home from my nightshift. Used Goldtop milk for the custard, double buttered the bread with sugar and butter mix, then layered with chocolate raisins mixed in. The remaining custard I mixed with actual banana flavoured custard, went down a treat.

@unclemattscookerylessons4 жыл бұрын
@@kellyottarson3810 Hi Kelly, in Britain we have this dessert bread and butter baked in a raw egg custard, we also have a cake called bread pudding which I've never made but it required soaking stale bread mixing with spices and sugar and baking. Not sure if it has egg but the end result is a heavy bread cake which is OKish but not lovely like this one. I think in the States you call bread and butter pudding 'bread pudding' although I've seen variations, so it might be more regional?

Thank you for this recipe. I have been searching for it for a long time. Someone brought Klappertaart pudding a long long time ago at a Potluck get together, and I had asked for the recipe. She said that it is bread pudding, and you just add pieces of young coconuts between the bread pieces of both layers of bread . And eaten with custard. In Indonesia custard always accompanies puddings. As soon as I can go back to work, I am going to make this to celebrate the end of the coronavirus 19 Lockdown. The klappertaart still exists in Indonesia, espcially in North Sulawesi, but I just feel they are now too dry, and I do not think that it is served with custard any longer. The raisins are still in there. I do not live in Indonesia any longer, so I am not up to date on that. I am just going to use the frozen young coconut slices that I will buy from an Asian store. I can't hardly wait to try that---Thank you so much for the very in detailed explanations. I subscribed and also added a thumbsup.

I think your fall (autumn over here) is a lot hotter than our summer. Glad you have ac . I'd really appreciate it if you took time to see a few more of the hundreds of other videos I've made? Thanks x

@@unclemattscookerylessons Yes, we turn off the AC around that time and open our windows for most of our winters here. I am going to definitely check out your other videos ….Cheers!

Bloody good. I'm divorced so I can really up the raisin content - well soaked in something first, of course,

whiskey is probably the best booze even if you don't like it, it seems to work so well with desserts with custard, thanks Lawrence

@John Coffee Jack would be perfect and marmalade also goes really well with whiskey, so a couple of spoons for glaze would be gorgeous. Thanks for subscribing, it means a lot

@@shaggydog563 really nice with rum, and a splash in the custard too?

@@shaggydog563 Mmmm. Rum in bread and butter pudding. Mmmm. I think I have a few ml of rum left. And 3 types of bread halves in the freezer.

Alas! I am the only one who will eat it and I love it so.....my grandmother would make this....and on days when the pantry was low she fed us a cheaper version....buttered toast sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and hot milk poured over top. We called it milk toast

Ahh, the memories of childhood. Milk toast was one of my favorites.

Definitely going to try this recipe, so far the best and easy recipe of bread and butter pudding thanks

Oooh, that looks really yummy. I'm really not a currant/sultana/raisin fan, so I'd try making this with chocolate chips either on their own or with, maybe, dried raspberries or chopped, dried, apricots. I think it would make a lovely alternative to Christmas pudding.

Great recipe and a beautiful outcome. I like my bread pudding cool, or even cold, and I pour over warm Crème Anglaise … a big hit at company dinners!

It's really nice cold, your right

Now that's a good idea with the warmed Creme Anglaise.. Why didn't I thinks of that?

Thanks for this reminder of a pudding i loved, all new leftover if any was booked for me. We did it slightly different in South Africa by spreading smooth apricot jam onto buttered bread or if you didn’t want it too sweet putting teaspoons full here and there when the egg had been absorbed slightly on top we sprinkle a 10 to 1 mix of sugar and cinnamon before baking. Now I’m drooling, will have to make it for the Spanish side of the family especially my grandson.

It would be easier and quicker to butter the bread before you cut the crusts off and in half. I like the crusts on mine as they make a lovely crispy texture to the pudding.

One of my favourite puds - I have never seen one rise like that before. Looks delicious.

Thanks, for me it's better with more of the raw egg custard so it's more like a creme brulee with bread and butter
