I don't know how you stood the pain for years. RA hit me with no warning also. very active one day, then all over body pain the next. the pain was so intense I could not sleep for almost a month. horrible pain and no sleep for that long left me a wreck. long wait to see my doctor. steroids are holding me up while waiting for Hydroxychloroquine to kick in. I can sleep at night, that is worth so much, but the pain never goes away. thank you so much for sharing, it helps

Thank you for sharing your story. I have RA too... my starting ESR was 360 when I was diagnosed 5 years ago! Your story is a lot like mine but I became completely crippled and after trying every natural approach and vegan diet snd every RA med known without improving I eventually gave into taking biologics but I’m still not 100% so recently switched to a ketogenic diet and it seems to be helping. The grieving for your “former life” is the hardest part...and the fatigue (from being a very energetic go-getter too)
@Cook2Nourish
@Cook2Nourish 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa, thanks for sharing your story. Yes I agree grieving for your old self does happen initially. However, now I feel like I have become even more active than I was before! Have you tried AIP? Keto helps some folks however since it includes dairy and nuts, it could still be inflammatory if you happen to be sensitive to those. Hence AIP is the best approach scientifically. After doing it for a while you could then reintroduce dairy and nuts. That would be my advice. Good Luck!

Thank you for sharing your experience with us! It was very informative. I was diagnosed in January 2019, started prednisone and went on plaquenil & Sulfasalazine but it wasn’t working. I am now on methotrexate & double dose of plaquenil. My rheumatologist wants me to look at Enbrel next. I will start eating more vegetables as you mentioned in another comment and stay away from grains 👍😊. I wish you well and many blessings 🙏

Hello Raina, Sorry to hear about your trials and frustrations. However keep positive and you will soon see better results. Do try eliminating all grains and legumes and that should help you. You should also try working with a functional medicine doctor or a nutritional therapist to work at your overall foundations and make them stronger. Best wishes to you, dear!

Also wanted to share my journey. I was diagnosed similar to you in 2017 following a year of off and on moving pains ankle shoulder fingers etc and put on metotrex, which I delayed hoping to try a nutritionist who specialised in inflammatn conditions for 3 months. Took 30 supplements a day, changed diet considerably, moved to vegetables, non dairy etc, 3 months later my condition was much worse, my thyroid and diabetes worsened too, and I surrendered to starting metotrex which after 8 weeks worked. I took a break for 1.5 years due to other health conditions now back again. It’s working so far however my question is - how do I resume my “ full “ routine including travel round the world, working atleast 8 hours a day or will I ever. I find my RA gets triggered when I eat bland diets, I then crave sugary foods, it then triggers cycle of Low energy, lethargy, mid day sleep, and demotivation, less movement then increases immobility and pain. Will try AIP for a while and see if that works. Any tips or suggestion would help. Thanks.

Thankyou so much for sharing your journey. I can’t put it in words how painful it is when a flare-up happens. I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis this February and also have type 2 diabetes as a prevailing condition. It was the most demoralizing feeling when i couldn’t do simple things as putting on a shirt for work. I Was Prescribed with methotrexate 10 mg weekly but I was so scared and worried about the side effects since I was diabetic. I reluctantly said no to methotrexate and am trying various diets (vegan for starters) I am happy to hear that the AIP diet worked for you. Hope That can help for me . I am wondering if I should go for medication and try the rest as well. Your comments are really appreciated . Thanks again.

Yes I definitely recommend the AIP diet and medications initially at least. You might be able to come off them later on. But if you don't want your condition to worsen it is wise to take some medication initially. You also need to work with a naturopath or nutritional therapist to work on some of your core foundations. I also work with clients to work on some of the root causes like dysbiosis, digestion, detox etc. You can contact me at cook2nourish@gmail.com if you would like an appointment. Good Luck to you and hope you feel better soon!

Hey, I have RA as well. You can check out the Coimbra Protocol. Dr. Coimbra uses high dose vitamin D therapy to treat AI diseases and put them in remission. I am on a modified version of it since I haven't been able to visit with a protocol dr and it is HIGHLY recommended that you be monitored by a knowledgeable Dr. and I must say the difference is night and day! I was on Enbrel which worked well for joint damage and inflammation but the pain and lethargy were still there. I can't recommend Enbrel because of the MS like symptoms it caused but thankfully went away after treatment. They do not always. I did the 10k dosing that he recommends as what should be the new minimum guideline for people who don't even have AI issues and I went from no energy, can't do anything, brain fogged, anxious and in constant pain to I can sit and play on the floor with my kids and I got my life back. The anxiety scaled back (I was not anxious before RA) the brain fog lessened but did not go away completely. I kicked my dose to 15k and I was dancing doing modern ballet and African again. The protocol people DO NOT recommend kicking up your dose w/o being monitored so I do not either...just mentioning what I did! I am in the middle of changing meds again so my joints are not happy without being on any meds but not as bad as they could be. Cook to Nourish is correct by stating that you want to be on a med in the beginning because RA can be a very aggressive disease that will try to start permanently damaging your joints. You want to halt that progression. I will be getting back on conventional meds this week and will see a Coimbra Protocol Dr. in Jan. ALL THE VERY BEST TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!

Your story/ journey really resonates with me. I was diagnosed in 2016 after suffering for a year and being told that I had other things including osteo arthritis. I even asked to be sent to a Rheumatologist and my GP refused. Like you my hands, wrists and feet were in constant pain and swollen and I had pain in my hips, shoulders neck and jaw intermittently. At the time of diagnosis my RF was 217 and my anti-CCP was greater than 340. I was put on Methotrexate and Sulfasalazine. Just before diagnosis I came across the AIP diet and started it immediately and stared taking supplements to help with inflammation and to help heal my 'leaky gut'. I still take Sulfasalazine but came off Methotrexate 3 years ago. I was great for about a year then had a return of some symptoms but much milder. In the interim we had moved to a new build property and I discovered that there was mould growing on the roof trusses in the loft. I am now trying to detox the mycotoxins and have had the loft treated. I had reintroduced walnuts and brazil nuts, but having watched this am now thinking I should remove them again and see if it helps. I also saw a biological dentist and have had my amalgam fillings replaced safely and an area of jaw bone treated to remove and infection after a wisdom tooth had been removed. It is a bit like peeling back the layers of an onion to find out what your triggers are. The AIP diet is a big game changer and there is always hope, which is so important. Thank you for your videos and good health to you and everyone who is struggling with this awful disease.

Thank you for sharing your story! Yes a multi faceted approach is what helps in healing of the body. Glad to hear that you could come off methotrexate completely. I could reduce the dose but not able to come off completely. Thank you for sharing about the work you did with a biological dentist. I am also considering getting a cone X-ray done as I am suspecting infection in the wisdom tooth area.

Is it easy to maintain weight on AIP? I want to do it for a little while, but have been hesitant because I don't want to lose even a single pound and because when my digestive system is off, all it wants is rice and ACV. I have changed my diet and lifestyle and that has certainly helped, but I want to see if I can do a little more. My faith in God has helped me out too.

It’s heartening to hear your journey truly.. can I ask now in Nov 2021 what medications are you on. Also, what are the key contributors that helped you overcome the initial frustration, sadness, denial, hopelessness, some say family, or work or friends. Just wondering what helped you as these seem more key and fundamental than all medications supplements and diet protocols to keep persevering despite the pain and immobility. Also your video did not mention what was going on that trigerred have you reflected on that, and whether anyone in family had it, and how you changed your hectic work and home routines now ? would be interesting to hear. Thanks.

Just curious did you have like burning pain in the meat muscle areas of your body like arm leg ect..and in your joints...trying to figure out if I have RA or OA...
@Cook2Nourish
@Cook2Nourish 4 жыл бұрын
I had burning or stinging pain in my joints whenever I had a flare up which was related to doing some activity. And I also had muscle pain surrounding that joint. But not generalized muscle pain. If you have lot of muscle pain, you should also check for Fibromyalgia. Did you do your blood work for RA? - Rheumatoid factor and antiCCP are two important tests for RA diagnosis.

Based on your description of your symptoms, it does feel like RA. It usually takes at least 3 months before you see the impact of medications. So keep taking them and hope your pain will subside. Also do AIP diet as that will help your inflammation.

Just come across your video, my mum also has joint pains especially in the elbow and I have persuaded her doctor to refer her to see bone specialist. I was wondering , did you get ttg igA levels checked in your bloods, did you have to go on gluten free diet for good? Yes, steroids do cause alot of side effects, particularly affects the pancreas in some people. Hope you are recovering well. Wishing you best of health.
@Cook2Nourish
@Cook2Nourish 5 жыл бұрын
No I did not do the tTG IgA test. That test is for determining if you are celiac. But I am avoiding gluten along with all grains. And also avoid dairy . regarding your question about gluten free for good, it really depends upon what sensitivities your body has and once you can repair your leaky gut by doing an elimination diet for a period of time, some people are able to add things back again. But if you have celiac, then you have to avoid gluten forever. But that is nt too bad now since there are so many options of grain free and gluten free foods available. You can find my videos for grain free tortillas/rotis on this channel. Hope that helps. And hope your mum feels better soon!

You should definitely see a rheumatologist and also do all the necessary blood work. It is always best to start with some medication in order to halt the progression. Also follow the AIP diet. A combination of diet, lifestyle and meds is what has helped me.

Hello Shamsa, thanks for your comment. However, I did try the Paddison program - that was one fo the things I tried and it did not work for me. In fact my inflammation increased a lot when I was doing that. AIP is what worked for me. And AIP is science based. It eliminates all of the inflammatory foods. That's the reason I advocate that. I am glad it is working for you.

Hello Shubhangi, as I explain in my video, an elimination diet like AIP can definitely help you to reduce your pain and inflammation.So please try to follow that. It is important to also address other root causes like dysbiosis, adrenal fatigue, toxicities etc. Working with a functional medicine doctor or nutritional therapist can help. I do online consultations. You can email me at cook2nourish@gmail.com if you are interested in working with me and I will send you more details about that process. Best, Indira
