You're not alone regarding all those gloves. I don't wear a glove on my torch hand when mig welding, so I have a whole drawer full of right hand gloves that have never been worn. Absolutely beautiful table. In the future, if you would like to route out pockets into a solid piece of wood, I would recommend using a Guide Bushing for your router. They typically come in a set of different sizes and act as a bearing for your bit. Rather than trying to hog out that material all at once, you can gradually step the bit down every 1/4” until you have reached your desired depth. It’s much safer and your router won’t bounce around on you. I hope this helps.

You can also get rid of most of the waste in the pocket by using a forstner bit to hog out most of it then using the flush trim bit in the router to clean the sides....

I too was going to mention guide bushings, using those to hog most of it out, and then once you are down to your final depth you can flush up the sides to your template with that flush trim bit

Very nice table, but you forgot a very important part and there is a thin layer of foam under the tablecloth. All professional tables have this, because it is then easier to pick up cards and chips. But luckily you can put this on afterwards. For such a nice table, I would also go for a tablecloth with a printed logo or design that fits this table 😃

Yep, I agree.. I love playing poker, and the foam is a must. It has a certain feel to it, a certain sound, the cards the chips…. Even the smell of a great. It’s the same for a pool table the felt has to be just perfect…

Looks Great!! If you do another poker/gaming table in future i highly recommend adding a layer of high density foam under the felt/speed cloth. This makes picking up cards and stuff easier, adds comfort and helps with sound when dropping chips and dice on the table.

Came out looking freaking cool my dude 👌🏻 Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but you could make a thicker template @14:40 to help reduce how much of the bit you plunge into your piece & you should only plunge in maybe about 1/8th every pass. Boy o' boy, I couldn't watch that part without feeling bad for you & thinking something horrible could happen. I'm so glad it didn't :). I've been there & making a thicker template helped SOOOO much. Also, that Glaze coat, we bought it once for our farmhouse dining table we made about 7yrs ago or so, and we did about 1/16th inch pour at a time & only did 2 coats of it. It turned out great BUT I didn't like it only b/c it was too glossy for my taste. Hopefully, this helps if you try it again. Thanks for sharing the process my dude, loved watching it :). That is a great idea as well. Another subscriber left a comment here about a bearing that goes in the base of the router called a template guide. With those you can set your bit height and add more depth each pass. I love our little diy community with great ideas and all learning from each other. Thanks!

Very cool table. New to the channel, just wanted to say you can get really cool patinas in brass and copper using some ordinary household chemicals like bleach and ammonia. I remember in college putting a piece in a zip top bag with ammonia and sawdust and leaving it sit for a bit, got a very cool blue/green color. Appreciate your found object and try and see if it works approach.

What a nice project! Beautiful concept and finish, I like the idea of an extended octagon instead of the traditional oval. As stated by others I would have put down a layer of Volara foam, it does seem to help card play and also Dampens dice also creates a quieter playing surface for such games. Still a nice video and beautiful build. Somebody is very lucky to receive such a nice piece of custom furniture.

Hi! Someone already said it, maybe: if you want to cut a hole into solid wood, is better if you go down little by little, no more than 1/2 inch at a time. A little tip for upholstery work: it is much better to fix the fabric underneath the part to be covered, pull it over to the opposite side, and turn underneath again to fix it while still pulling. You'll make it without using glue. Anyway, you did a fantastic job!🙏

If the router bit goes in too deep... make the template thicker. Put something under it, between the oak and the template, or use it to cut a new template in thicker wood. Always cut in one direction to prevent tearout. And it seems you have a bit that cuts upwards: it pulls the bit out of the router. They are designed for routing edges of boards, not pockets. You can't do nothing about that. Just go really slow or replace it.

Great job. For the pockets one way to do it would be to use multiple templates.. It looks like your template was about 1/4 inch thick. you could stack 4 of them together indexed with wooden dowels so they don't move. make your cut then, remove one layer of template and repeat. this what you are only taking 1/4 bites out of the wood on each pass.

Absolutely AMAZING! I am a little confused on why you paid extra for the oak plywood when it is fully covered though. I understand the oak boards because they are seen but the plywood is covered on sides with metal and center with cloth. But either way you did awesome!

Nice work. Creative, solid, and sturdy. My only critique would be, if the felt would allow it without wrinkles, was to put a 1/4 " or 1/8" cushion beneath it. It allows a player to 'more easily ' dig below the cards to see them in a hand. How much did you charge for this piece. Because I need legs for my 10 seater.

I think the yellowness & bubbling from the resin could be from air being released from the woodgrain and because you've stained it, it is releasing a small amount of stain into the resin too. I could be completely wrong. Just a theory based on my small resin experience.

It’s a good theory. I have resined over stained wood in the past with no issues but always use Total Boat. Maybe something to do with the stain on lumber mill oak. No telling.

Just FYI for an aerosol adhesive I've found to be even better than 77 was at Joann fabrics but it's ForceField Headliner adhesive. I noticed you didn't quite trust the adhesive alone (however given the temperature I wouldn't either 😅) but thought I'd share. Awesome table none the less. Only thing I'd add would be dedicated chip holder slots or the pocket to fit chip racks. Version 2 is always better than V1 right!

Very cool table. As for the pockets in the future there are two ways you could consider making it work better. 1) make your template thicker. This will allow your router to sit higher and you won’t be plunging the full depth of the bit (it will act as if you have a shorter bit like you wanted). Plunging that full depth in a single pass is certainly not any fun of anybody- had me cringing just watching 😂. 2) You can use a decent size Forstner bit with your drill to remove a majority of material before you hit it with the router. Just stay about 1/8” from the bottom and sides (don’t drill right to the edge). This way the router just cleans up the edges and bottom. Great video man!

I’m usually all about symmetrical but when you were talking about where to place the cupholders, I actually agree with you just FYI about doing three instead of four, so it’s not so crowded and I think the people aren’t going to be as crowded. You need elbows space like you said especially when you’re eating drinking laughing playing poker. when your routing that deep, hog out the middle potrtion in sevreal shallow passes leaving about a 1/4 inch on the edges. then, you can use the bearing to flucsh cut the remaining 1/4 inch on the edges. takes a little longer, but it wont chatter and you wont break the bit

Love your work. Try Sculpt Nouveau its a blacking patina treatment for metal. I have used it and it works very well. You can rub back the finish with scotchbright pad to highlight the high spots and the seal it. Very even patina look.

Honestly I am horrible when it comes to PPE but getting better. I do hate stuff in my eyes and my wife’s cousin lost an eye last year working on oil rig. Got a piece of metal in it that got infected. I think he is late 20s or early 30s. So that is now always in the back of my mind. Most “safety glasses” stop large items from hitting you but all the dust blows in behind them. These are great at protecting and stopping dust! I always try to share when I find a good product. So happy you took that away from the video.

As far as those copper ensco you could have superheated the copper until it turn red in the center and then the metal would have kneeled and you could have bent it much easier by hand

the reason that bit is giving so much grief is because its a templet bit you want to hog out a majority of your material with a forstner bit leave the line and come back with that template bit and your template. hope this helps

I just bought one and taught myself. I bet you could as well. One thing I do know is a higher end welder can make you look like a good welder. When I tried with the 120v it was BAD. On 220 (180) it's much more forgiving and lays flatter welds. My Lincoln 120/180 is $950 then you need bottle, wire, good mask, gloves and welding shirt. Another $400. It works good but I did try a friend's 210 Miller welder ($3500) and my welds looked like a pro did it. He also had the settings perfect. lol. A $500 welder will just look bad BAD. I think the 120/180 is great for beginners and works well enough you can make a good side hustle out of it if you wanted to bring in extra income. I have down littles things for neighbors like welding bed frames and chair legs. Building with a welder is so much fun tho. It's almost like hot glueing whatever you want how you want together. 😁
