I love this term "People Analytics"! I'm currently an IO graduate student at Capella University and am looking into additional information on possible positions. My professional background is data analytics and management and studying OI is a perfect next step for me. Thank you very much for your informative videos!

I agree, It's so much more than a buzzword...but kind of like how it took a century for people to see positivity as essential in human psychology, maybe it took several for businesses to realize that people are as important as profits...at least on a large scale?

Heather, thank you greatly for these videos! I have been interested in applying to IO for a few years now, first at Chicago School (in LA) and now working at Kaiser Permanente, through GCU, which will be partially paid. I am fully convinced that my delay in pursuing the PhD program was justifiable, and I will instead pursue the Masters. It's completely online. I do have an MBV though USC as well, a pilot program that incorporates military experience and discipline with business acumen. Again, thanks!

Hi Laxmi - Since you left this reply I've done two more videos on the field. Here is "What is People Analytics" kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqqbYYSIntBpgqs and here is one that talks about the different terms that tend to be used interchangeably such as people analytics, HR analytics, workforce analytics, etc: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKKTpXtqnsZ0kJY Enjoy!

Can IO psychologists work for companies such as Google, Amazon, Apple, etc? If so, what education degree do those companies expect, a master's or Ph.D.?
@Americanheld2 жыл бұрын
A masters would be ideal, no company (outside some positions in consulting companies) ask for a phd even as a “nice-to-have” requirement

Hi Heather- I am currently enrolled in an I/O graduate program for my MS or MA. My undgrad background was in Economics. I have been working in sales within the staffing industry for the last 5 years however my goal is to pivot to a more project/science/data analytics driven career (more in line with my strengths) perhaps in the greater world of HR/Talent Acquisition as a consultant or eventually as an internal source for a a firm in those areas. I think I/O would right for me in this regard but am curious to hear what you think in terms of whether such a transition is heard of and in what area of I/O or potential roles in I/O would my background in sales/talent acquisition translate well and be an asset as far as my skillsets outside of this degree when completed? Thanks!

Do I have to get a PhD to practice as an io psychologist?
@HeatherWhiteman4 жыл бұрын
Hi Nikayla - I/O Psych isn't like being a clinical psychologist or therapist requiring certain education and certifications. That being said, you would likely need to have deeper experience gained other through a graduate program (could be masters instead of PhD) or you could also work with and learn through experience by working with someone who knows the field and could help you learn and apply what you have from your undergrad. Good luck!

Hi heather I have a degree in iop and people analytics sounds like something I would be interested but where do I start ?
@HeatherWhiteman3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary - congrats on your degree and excited that you are interested in people analytics. If you are looking for more learning opportunities there are plenty of courses (I teach quite a few: ikhanatalent.com/learn-with-me). But, if you have the skill set already then I recommend looking for jobs that allow you to leverage data about people to solve business problems. Or if you are currently employed, by asking your HR team if you could get involved and help support them with an analytics project. Depending on the sensitivity of the data, they may be happy for your help and you would get some good learning and experience. Good luck!

Is it mandate to have a PhD in I/O 🙄 like aren't masters acceptable for job opportunities
@HeatherWhiteman3 жыл бұрын
Hi Swastik - I know plenty of very successful people in this area who do not have a PhD many have a master's in I/O only. Also, if your question was about job opportunities in People Analytics, an I/O degree wouldn't be required. It's just a job that I believe tends to suit I/O folks really well.

So coming from having ungrad in BH (Behavioral Health) would it be best to go into my graduates focusing on I/O or start from the beginning with I\O?
@HeatherWhiteman4 жыл бұрын
I don't think you'd need to start all over. Your background in Behavioral Health could still be applicable and would probably give you some interesting understanding to the field of people at work.
