I hope the people at splitfire recognize you for showing this.

Great, well priced, vertical splitter. Fits a market for a person who wants to get a great splitter and make bundle wood as a side hustle or for personal use. Got me thinking of how well Split Fire thinks outside the box, 2 gas engine options and 1 electric motor version. Get a cord of wood in the garage, plug it in, turn on the heat and some music, and make some firewood. Being older, the log lift is always a nice addition as well as a longer side table. Great review Tony. 👍🏻👍🏻

I knew one of the vertical splitter manufacturers was going to come out with a knee control. I was operating an Axis splitter down at the Hoosier Firewood Hysteria this year and realized after just a short time of operating it that the foot pedal is not very ergonomic. Leg muscles tired quickly and it was a little difficult to keep balance. Also the slash from splitting had the tendency to get caught under the foot pedal. Seemed obvious to me at the time that a knee control would solve all of those issues. Always appreciate your videos, Tony. This was a good one. Mike
@TonysCoolTools2 ай бұрын
I had reservations about a knee control especially since all the vertical splitters out there had foot controls, but after splitting several cords I find it extremely easy to operate with virtually not leg fatigue. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT

@@TonysCoolTools I have found that the tonnage is nearly not as relevant as many ppl have been conditioned to believing. I find that while mine is just over 20Ton, if my splitter isn't going to split it, it isn't going to split nice anyways and certainly will not stack well. Since we do not have a boiler market here, I just keep that sort of nasty stuff for my outdoor fire pits.

I have a log splitter that was only 1 year old. Its the small one, I think they call it 209cc. When the hydraulic oil gets cold in 20 degrees Fahrenheit, slightly below freezing, its too hard for me to pull start it. I had to pull the engine and replace it with one with electric start. Not all of us are strong like football players. I wish they would offer electric start on their machines. It looks like we might need an optional remote gas tank on the back or side, and a muffler and stack pipe for the exhaust, too. But, I always want special stuff. It is on my shopping list!

Thanks Heath, this splitter fills the gap between the box store splitter and the commercial splitters. I was skeptical at first but this little splitter really made me a believer,. There is nothing out there in the price range for resplitting and making kindling like the Split Fire 1165V not to mention regular bucked up logs. I hope you get to try one at Paul Bunyan. Appreciate you watching and commenting.,

I make cedar kindling 1" or less with my supersplit super fast. U can split toothpick kindling efficiently, a whole facecord at once if u wanted . Smoker wood and chunks take no time. I fill ibcs with my smoker wood chunks. Apple, hickory, oak, cherry. So i can bag them and stack on pallets in my shed to keep dry inventory ready. That moving handle is smart and easy. I think the electric version would be great for doing resplits,kindling, and bbq chunks for bags inside during winter or rain days. Keeping production going without dealing with gas and fumes inside. Small firewood market is more profitable per cord than bulk heating wood anyways. An ibc full of seasoned chunks can make alot of $10 bags. Recently had a customer with a rocket stove want 10 bundles of 4" wide or less pieces. The Firewood market is always changing so the splitter manufacturers have to keep innovating efficiency. Nice review Tony

Garrett glad you enjoyed the video. You are so right the firewood market is always changing. Us woodhounds are the lucky ones because manufacturers have to step up their game with true innovations on their splitters like Split Fire did with its 1165V. Thanks for watching and commenting TCT

Great vid and very informative, well thought out with the narration and demo. of the splitter I received my new 1165v only 2 days ago and was in the works to figure out a foot assist to operate the ram (the didn't offer the knee option 7 weeks ago when I ordered. Wondering if I'll like their idea better than mine. Thanks for the great info, watch those fingers when making kindling so quick!

Glad you enjoyed the video. You may try asking Split-Fire if you can install a knee control after the fact. Though I like the foot control on most of the vertical splitters out there I adapted quickly to the knee control and really like it. Please let me know if you design a foot control. I think this 1165V splitter is going to be a great upgrade to anyone who has a glacier box store splitter. It is reasonably priced below even the most entry level commercial splitter (Eastonmade Ultra). As I have noted, for a solo firewood operation a fast cycle time vertical splitter is very hard to beat. It seems the 16" stroke limiter doesn't give muck clearance above a round that might be slightly gut off spec. I don't think a 20" total stroke is going to make that much time savings on a splitter that already has a 3.5 second cycle time. The belly protector is going to limit the size round that you can set on the splitting table.
@TonysCoolTools2 ай бұрын
You mention some good points. My Eastonmade Axis has an adjustable limiter so I set it between 16” & 18” , the Split-fire is truly 16 and if you’re not accurate you won’t get under the wedge. At 3.5 seconds leaving splitter at a 20” stroke you’re not losing that much time but it really makes a difference when splitting kindling. Since the splitter only weighs 450 lbs and the log lift has a maximum of 150 lbs I probably would not be putting a round bigger than about 19”. The belly protector is definitely a good safety item to have on machine. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
@everettt83012 ай бұрын
I saw that to when he didn't slide that 22" round over under the wedge when he showed the splitter would pick it up.
@TonysCoolTools2 ай бұрын
@@everettt8301 Everett, the measurement between the back of the splitter and the belly protector is about 19”. However you can do larger diameter logs but you split little chunks off the edge and keep turning your wood until you block gets smaller. 👍TCT

Good stuff for home or small production. I am not sure it would stand up to long term high volume production though. I would wait for the powdercoated version and I would pay a little more to get the more durable protection.
@TonysCoolTools2 ай бұрын
I agree powder coating would make a big difference. Time will tell on long term production. This splitter is for the “average guy & gal” and not made for commercial applications but I wouldn’t be surprised if it hangs in with the commercial vertical splitters like Eastonmade or Wolf Ridge. @TonysCoolTools2 ай бұрын
The problem I have now is I’m spoiled with the 3.5 second cycle time. Though not that much difference the electric is about 5 or six second cycle time. Regardless of which manufacturers electric splitter they are all less than a gas engine. You may check out Steve from Up In Smoke Firewood, he has the electric version. If SplitFire vertical had come out sooner, LogOx would not have needed to come out with their new unusual splitter with the cylinder underneath. It sells for 6,450. Having the cylinder underneath makes it difficult to manufacture and causes maintenance issues. I agree with you about this SplitFire vertical being a home run. The main feature making it attractive is the price. There is a growing class of people without much money. I expect people will be happy with this one but not with the LogOx.

I‘lol have to check out the LogOx when it comes out. I love the large table. The only thing I notice missing is a log lift to bring larger rounds up. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
@jakebredthauer510020 күн бұрын
@@TonysCoolTools LogOx splitter availability started this weekend. It is weird. The cylinder is underneath like SplitFire does and WoodMizer does. Because the cylinder is not lined up with the wood, SplitFire uses replaceable wear pads. It was a starter splitter for LogOx because they had never done one before. Did they have any good ideas? None I am aware of. It was demonstrated 3 weeks ago on Stony Ridge Farm KZbin. They were pushing the wood the wrong direction because the control was on the wrong side. It is rated for up to two cords per hour. They used three men and high-speed playback to make it look like they were doing something. GP Outdoors will be getting one. Back Forty Firewood, Ohio Wood Burner. They selected four KZbinrs to be the design advisory board. They are going after homesteaders. I like homesteaders. The cylinder is underneath. The cylinder is underneath. That is the outstanding feature. Having the cylinder underneath is a bad design. Very few companies want to have anything to do with it. SplitFire on the vertical got the cylinder lined up with the wood. Wonderful.
@jakebredthauer510020 күн бұрын
@@TonysCoolTools The step wedge is definitely a good idea. It would be better if there were a recess in The pusher plate for the wedge to fit into. I am not sure but I think the step wedge is patented. I'm not sure if the SplitFire wedge is straight or uneven. TimberWolf offers step wedges.
@jakebredthauer510020 күн бұрын
@@TonysCoolTools Could SplitFire improve the edge of the knife with a sharper bevel? Obviously, a sharper bevel would be weaker but if it has excessive strength, why not? Why not make it the shape of an axe? If there are nicks in the edge, that's okay. How do the Europeans do it?

how do you compare this to the axis? which is better? which one would you buy???
@TonysCoolTools2 ай бұрын
I will be doing a comparison in the near future between the Axis and Split-Fire.. Before asking which one would I buy the question everyone looking to buy a splitter is what are you going to be doing with it. How many cords will you be splitting a year. If you’re doing 10-20 cords and are doing as a side hustle or hobby definitely there is no question the Split Fire. If you’re going into business and doing 200 cords I’d go with the Axis. If money is no object invest in a processor. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT

@TonysCoolTools29 күн бұрын
Chester, SplitFire is definitely aware they have to powder coat their splitters and will be doing it in the future. Though the Ultra is a an awesome entry level commercial splitter it’s still a horizontal unit. I believe as far as firewood production the 1165V could keep up with the Ultra and using the knee control possibly be slightly faster if using the single wedge. The Ultra has the advantage if using the 4way wedge. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
