I miss the Michigan 500 and 400; it was a race where it was said that you didn't want to be leading going into the last lap. It produced several first-time and only-time Indy car winners. The 1997 race was another odd one, a tortoise-and-hare race that included top-10 finishes for the immortal Dennis Vitolo and 'king Hiro.

This was my first IndyCar race and it was BRUTALLY hot that day. I was instantly hooked for life! If they were ever to return to Michigan, I'd be first in line for tickets!

……did you notice how many people that attended this race??? Bleachers were packed!! I hope we get back there soon. 90’s Indy car racing was pretty entertaining back then. Great job on the video too, as always. I watch all of em and this one did not disappoint!!!🏁

Do a video on 1994 Michigan 500. It's a race no one wants to win as leaders fell by the wayside from engine and mechanical failures. Scott Goodyear gave Kenny Bernstein his only Indycar win as a car owner. It was bittersweet as Bernstein announced he's shutting down his team after the season. Finishing on the podium is Arie Luyendyk in the underfunded Euromotorsports team and Dominic Dobson driving for PacWest Racing who was in their first full time season.

I feel lucky to have been a kid in the 90s and got to see people race like sullivan, mario and michael, aj, big and little al and emmo. So many legends still racing then. Idk if well ever quite see fields like that again.

Thank You for the rundown of this '95 Michigan race. It is special to me because it reminds me while back in the day I was infused by indy car racing that time and especially on the computergame Indy Car Racing 2 from Papyrus. I loved that game! Thanks again and regards from germany

My first INDYCAR race I attended. I enjoyed it so much and this race was so much fun and exciting. The finish between Pruett and Unser Jr. Was one of the all time best to watch live in person. Thanks for posting this I really enjoyed it.

The best maybe because it was youre first? Joke, cheers man,i LOVE Indycar/Cart and think that without it there would BE no premiere league open wheel series. For good races we would have to watch the lower tier of F1 which sucks, formula 3s and Jap Super Formulas.

@@KevinHarvickisnothappy4 we know that. Instead of just taking away ovals and he scared and stuck in 2011, they should learn and improvise to make sure that doesn’t happen again. Plus 34 cars at Vegas was a bad idea and it was way too fast for them. Not all tracks are Vegas

I attended the last CART race at Michigan in 2001 (after that it was Indy Car). 2001 was well after the split and the crowd was only about 25% of the crowd you see here. But it was a fantastic race. I think there were 62 lead changes. That was the era of the Hanford device with lots of drafting and passing..

If I'm remembering it right, that's down to, at least the way Paul stated it on the air, that the team said it was supposed to be pronounced that way. I'm wondering which way is correct now, never did get too far with Japanese to figure it out

On the 1990 broadcasts, there was a lot of back and forth. Sounded like the family preferred one way and Hiro preferred the other.

@@stevenkilsdonk2046 Which ones, specifically? I don't remember that from the 90 Indy 500 which is the main race I remember from that year, though I'd be interested on how it's supposed to be pronounced correctly by a native Japanese speaker though. I wasn't aware there was that back and forth with Hiro and his family, but knowing how Japanese society is it makes me wonder about who was right vs who was using a power and cultural dynamic. Also makes me wonder how much the team had an input on this, both from the broadcast side and the actual race team side. And then you got Eurosport who pronounce it a different way altogether

this is what's missing in the current state of Indycar to have the Indy 500 as your only superspeedway race is absolutely pathetic don't get me wrong Iowa Gateway and Milwaukee are nice but we need at least 2 other big ovals id say Michigan or bring something back like Homestead Chicago Kansas i don't mind road or street courses here and there but it's not a diverse schedule when over half your races are road or street courses
