Wow I learned something and saved $1000 labor. Thank you

Nice! You going to build it yourself? Another idea is to put an outlet in the tray and put crown molding around it a couple inches down from the ceiling. Then drop rope lighting in it. We did that...it's awesome!

Love this! So great. Looking to do this around Spring. Have a video of the finished project?

Man that’s too much work. This video is extremely simple and has some critical info. Stay blessed sir.

You can use sheetrock instead of osb for fire blocking as well.

Thanks much for the knowledge!!! There’s no reason to try and reinvent the wheel. My plan is to use wood planks around the outside instead of drywall. I haven’t quite decided what I’m going to use in the middle yet. Thanks again!

You may prefer to call the SOFFIT/S, because that technically what they are, as opposed to walls. Good job!

I thought the weight of the tray has to rest on the vertical beam somewhere equivalent? It seems your entire tray is just held to the beams on the side by drilling nails?

Could it be be 2x3 and 1x3 for more internal area (ductwork?

I'm sure. It's not structural to the house!
@davidgrason1619 ай бұрын
Question... you seem to have used screws to put this entire structure together. But, I have nail guns. Can't I just use ring shank nails and it be just as strong? I'm not a frame carpenter.

Yes, absolutely!

I like the idea of easily running wires, I would totally want to be able to remove the bottom covering that channel you made, that way adding things later will be super easy.
@SuperBrainAK3 жыл бұрын
@@IndyFarmLife yea but with some creativity you could face it with something that isnt drywall at all and it could have latches or just screws holding it up.

I get the fire blocking. But use some fire block foam in crevices will help Why so many studs?? .
@IndyFarmLife2 жыл бұрын
Staggered stud framing. I have another video about this on my page.
@christopherdahl89972 жыл бұрын
Why are those studs like 5” apart???
@IndyFarmLife2 жыл бұрын
It's staggered stud farming. I have a video on this actually. 6" bottom and top plate and 2x4 studs 16" on center on both the inside of the plate and outside of the plate. Makes for a stronger and better thermal and acoustical wall, especially when you use spray foam

Better to use scrap drywall for fire blocking

Fire block seems pointless since the rest of the house is not treated that way....I suppose it's a code thing.

Sheetrock the ceiling before yo build the box. Fireblocking done. You're waisting time and money.
