Tommy’s rant at the end was spot on. Because of the import tax and the pricing this places you in the territory of TRD pro, raptor, rhino, TRX , Gladiator rubicon, ZO2, 4TX. Looks like a good truck but no one should spend that amount of money on that vehicle…20-30k more than the ones listed above….just no.

I disagree, they have 20 dealerships in the US and Canada? That could mean you're a 24+ hour drive from one... OTA updates don't have to be always online, touchscreen only cars. It could be as simple as hotspot your phone and get it updated with that, then disconnect and keep going.

All of the dealerships are in big metropolitan areas. I will argue that the vast majority of the US population lives within 2-3 hours drive at max from one of these 20+ dealerships. There are two dealers within 2 hours of me in opposite directions.

Hello Tommy. Thanks for your great review as always. I understand that you normally will consider 4x4 offroaders after offroading as entertainment because lot of people in the US are using them for this. But in many European countries we are not allowed fo0r motorized driving in forests, mountains or fields outside public roads. And engineers like me and contracters who are allowed for offroad driving to reach worksites, have much of the same requirements. I have sometimes been dreaming of a Land Cruiser dobbelt cabiner pickup model, because such a vehicle could save me for bringing a trailer in many of my projects, and in my work such a vehicle would be more importent for me than the reduced brake over angle and turning radius which of course is importend for the hard core off roaders. Thanks. Best Regards from Arne in Norway

There are four Grenadiers (three SUV and one truck) that I regularly see near my home and those that have purchased them were all previously long term owners of LR Defenders. Oh. Tommy I have a 2019 ZR2 with the Duramax and all, I mean all, the available AEV components including high mark fender flares to clear 35’s with no lift. The only thing keeping me from trading it in on a quartermaster is the diesel engine which has been magic. If you pay More than $91,500+- for a Quartermaster you bought too much junk not suited for its purpose. But I’m not sure what you mean that “it has to be good”. Good like Colorado that you can’t drive through a car wash without collapsing the roof. Good like a Tacoma that breaks the first time off road. Good like a Tundra that has thousands of trucks with engine replacement recalls. The fact is those trucks don’t matter and the only thing you have to ask is the Quartermaster better enough than the Gladiator to justify the increased cost. To my mind resoundingly, YES!

Very satisfied Grenadier owner here. I just don’t think the Quartermaster will take off in the US - certainly not with the chicken tax (although I hear they’re looking into US production options) - but I think even without the tax, it wouldn’t be a huge hit. It just doesn’t check enough US truck boxes (bed size, hauling capacity, etc etc) to purely play in the truck category - so then it’s an OFFROAD truck, but really more of an overland truck . . . you see the problem. And it doesn’t have the versatility of a Grenadier. So it’s a niche of a niche of a niche - at a crazy high price. Probably useful to game wardens in Africa though! Honestly even my Ineos dealer is skeptical.

700kg payload and less on the Quartermaster is just not competitive, certainly in Europe compared to say a South African build Ford Ranger which has a 1040kg or one Imperial ton [2250lbs] payload. This has severe tax implications in the UK and many other countries where double cab pickups must have 1040kg payload or more in order to qualify for 20% VAT rebate. The Quartermaster will have very few sales in Europe and, truth be told, Grenadier wagons have already peaked and are not now selling particularly well.

Okay, so first up: I like your channels. I subscribed most of them. Now , I live in Europe, where this truck is built. But I think you have a much too narrow point of view. 1 - This truck is sold worldwide and has to function worldwide. Look at all those rural regions outside the US and you won't find your TRD's, Raptor's or whatever outside of city boundaries. Those trucks are built and sold for the US and Canada, not for Africa, Europe or South America. 2 - Because the EU has different laws, all new vehicles sold in the EU have to have a speed warning, which you have to shut off after every new start. This also applies to US trucks sold in the EU. And the speed limit in the rest of the world is lower than in the US and EU and the roads aren't that good either. 3 - Electronics and so called " LUXURY requirements " like electric seats with ventilation aren't really useful for those areas for which Ineos built this truck for. 4 - And YEAH: the " Chicken Tax " is a joke. Some companies like Toyota built factories to avoid it, but most other car manufacteries couldn't care less for competing in a globally uninteresting niché model. So, please: I know you love your Trucks, especially those midsize and large ones. But you will not find a Gladiator in an african desert or in the pampas of Argentine. You will find Toyota and the early Defender. Just simple and reliable. So please try to be a little bit more objective for the world outside the " North American Territories "😉😜! Keep on streaming !👍👌

I’d take it any day over any of the other midsized trucks for reliable (apart from the Toyota), but also for everything else it offers. Plus, they won’t be here long, so buying it now is a future investment

They are discussing building some in America, and i hope so. I really want one but the chicken tax is brutal. We are waiting on our wagon right now. Where the Quartermaster crushes the Gladiator is its bombproof running gear. Regardless of the tax you are paying for stuff you wont break. Price out these upgrades for a gladiator, dana 60s, t case upgrade, trans upgrade and of course suspension. May not seem that expensive. If you are adding any tires to a gladiator breakage is coming

100% agree this truck does not bring $101K value to the table. 25% of that is the US government. The buyer for this truck is going to be the person that has a lot of money that wants something different than their friends, and the very well off, hardcore sector of overlanders. Would be a great truck for $60K or less for me.

This thing base is more than double the price of a well specd gladiator, it definitely can’t be considered a “competitor” in any true sense. Most people won’t cross shop this between the Gladiator, they might look at the Mercedes G-Wagon and Land Rover Defender, or even the new Toyota Land Cruiser and pick this because the Ineos Grenadier comes with the Quartermaster pickup specification and those don’t. At best the most comparable vehicle would be an Rivian R1T, but even the. that’s an electric vehicle so the consumer base would be wildly different I imagine.

Seems the rant is all about the cost and that's down to chicken tax so completely out of Ineos' control; not only that but Ineos themselves were apparently quite bearish about bring it to the US but dealers were very bullish. More product can't do the brand damage, just need to pick up those city slickers with cash no object when it comes to having an exclusive vehicle, or rather another exclusive vehicle, as it's mostly going to multi vehicle owners.

For the same price, Ill take ‘purpose built utilitarian’ over luxury all day every day. That’s why I bought a new Land Cruiser 200 for $95k when I could have bought a Range Rover, MB G500, Cadillac Escalade, or other similarly priced vehicle (at the time). I don’t buy a 3-5 year vehicle. If I can’t reliably drive it for decades it isn’t worth any price. Amortized over the life of the vehicle, the Ineos is a bargain compared to just about anything else. That being said, I’ll buy Toyota every time.
@jamisonjamisonx
@jamisonjamisonx Ай бұрын
@@stonepa thank you for the reply, I'm not trying to be rude or argumentative, but...why (for 100k) does it have to be a choice between utilitarian or luxury?...which really wasn't my point. My point was that one could buy a GX550 Overtrail+ (personally, I'd wait a year or two) for much less money than any Grenadier and get 99% of the off-road capability with 99% better on-road capability and also luxury (or a new Land Cruiser, or an old Land Cruiser, or a 4Runner, or so many other vehicles). I really just think Ineos is a confusing product with no real target audience (outside of rich people who have money to burn on a novelty item). I mean, they're not going to take any Jeep shares: Wranglers are as good-to-better off-road and even slightly better on-road, Cherokees are way more on-road & luxury focused, cheap jeeps are...so much cheaper. They aren't going to take Toyota shares: a 5th gen 4Runner will do anything this can do off-road and better on-road + more luxury. and on and on. If Grenadiers were prices evenly with 4Runners, I still don't see very many people choosing one over a 4Runner (I wouldn't)...but 2x the cost of a 4Runner is so wild. The sole selling point of any Grenadier is that it's different and quirky. That might work well in dating, but I can't see that being a recipe for success in the auto industry. Just waiting for the news that Ineos pulls out of NA.
