Anyone use to sleeping outdoors in hammocks will be familiar with the windchill that can penetrate from beneath due to the crushing of clothing and sleeping bags against the hammock, which can make for a very cold night! The Snugpak® Under Blanket is a totally new innovation. Fitting snugly to the outside of your hammock, it cleverly insulates you from the cold winds, giving you a warm, comfortable and cozy night's sleep.
- Fits most hammocks
- Made with MicroDiamond Fabric with a Paratex™ Antibacterial treatment
- The Travelsoft™ filling gives great insulation and comfort, reflecting and trapping heat
- Complete with Compression Stuff Sack
DIMENSIONS
Length 83" / 2105cm
Width (w/o flaps) 58" / 148cm
Each Flap 10" / 25cm
Pack size 9" x 9" / 23 x 23cm
Review :
Easy to setup, shock cord allows for the perfect range of movement as you get in and out of the sleeping pad.
The price is…..AWESOME! For an underquilt, this price is terrific.
Does an awesome job of blocking the wind and keeping you warm. The coldest temps that I have been able to use it have been 29F with winds around 15 mph. With this under blanket and the Snuppak Hammock Blanket; perfectly comfortable!
Snugpak is known for affordability and quality and again, they hit the mark. It works with just about any quilt; my Hennessey, my Snugpak tropical, etc.
Bottom Line : For the money, this is a really good product. The downfall is that it is heavy. Save some weight, ditch the compression sack. It weights in at over 6oz.

Been thinking about getting a hammock and have always wondered how the bottom quilt works. Thanks for another great video.

Isn't it supposed to hang under your hammock with some space in between to insulate the warmth? If you set it up just like that its tight and your body heat will still go through the hammock and blanket instead of staying in between the hammock and under blanket. This has been my experience. If want to set it up properly it's not that easy.

Great review, Luke! On one of my colder trips out I had to use three Snugpak items, i.e. Under Blanket, Over Quilt and the Jungle Blanket. According to the thermometer on my whistle the temperature was 22 degrees Fahrenheit. I was pretty warm until around 0300 hours when I started feeling a little chilly. I had the blanket under my head for a pillow and decided body warmth meant more than head comfort. Now I carry a small compact couch pillow just for grins. Carrying all of the Snugpak requires my using the MARPAT ILBE as they will not fit in my SOG tactical bag. Most nights require only the quilt though. Bulky as they are it's worth the extra weight. Bring on the snow, Mother Nature!

Ihave used this underblanket around two years, really helps with the wind. I have been in it at around 15 degrees but I had to use my klymit insulated pad. I live in Texas and we don't get the crazy cold. Have two of them plus 5 or 6 other snugpak products. Have been very pleased with snugpak. Always enjoy your videos and reveiws. Thanks.

This looks like it would work great as a regular blanket as well. More versatile than the snugpak jungle blanket. I have been looking at good packable throw blankets for extra layers when car camping. I also dabble with hammocks. I think this is going on my list.

What a coincidence, I got the under blanket recently without any knowledge of this review. I agree with all the points made here. What I really like is that this thing is long enough to cover my entire body, which at 6'1 is not very common,

Hi Luke, thanks for this video, awesome review. I really love this system, I use it all the time, and i push it down to -20 or alittle under with a sleeping bag rated down to -40 with a sleeping bag system, and it was very comfortable and kept me warm through the night. Loved how you mentioned an showed you raising it higher to one side, it really does help blocking the wind making a wall. -Jake

Maybe I missed it but I didn't see if the ends were adjustable to cinch up against the body of the hammock. If not your going to get a draft from head to foot. Also, laying diagonal is a more comfortable way of using a hammock. Laying in a banana shape is one of the primary reasons people don't stick with hammocks.

I've owned this underquilt for 3years. I use it year round at least once a month. I can honestly say that in colder months, the way you have this set up would cause cold spots underneath. You need a decent air gap between your hammock and the quilt for it to work efficiently. I you didn't address this point. Otherwise I agree that this is an excellent value product, but you really need to ensure it is set up properly with sag on the underside, not as simple as you suggest in this video, in my humble experience.

Hey Luke, my name is Bryan Dailey, and my brother and I are starting to get into backpacking and camping. We would always go hiking with my father but unfortunately he was killed in the line of duty last February in Harford County Maryland. He was a police officer and a former marine. And I have watched a ton of your videos and I absolutely love them. And I was wondering if maybe my brother and I could come down and maybe go camping or backpacking with you one day.

Hey Bryan, so sorry to hear about your Dad. May he rest in peace. God bless you guys. I like your idea about going on a trip to backpack with Luke! I, too, stated the same in another TOGR video. He has a wealth of knowledge and would be an incredible teacher; and not to mention, a great personality. I'm almost 70 with experience from years in the military but I'm always learning from Luke, Chris Tanner, Aaron of Gideons Tactical, and Dave Canterbury. Even though Dave is ex-Army he knows his craft :) I live in Richmond, VA, and would be willing to share expenses into N.C.

Love mine with a snugpak jungle bag and a tarp for milder weather , keep an additional jungle blanket or mil surplus wool blanket , for fal and early cool conditions with a foam or thicker pad , for colder climates , I simply step it up to a wiggys ultima Thule bag , with a heavier wool blanker . I haven't slept cold yet from the teens and below , on up to the low 40s .

love my Snugpak Underquilt, I attach a krib to the centre loops wich lets me clip both sides together keeping me warmer. I've been down to -17C / 1.4F. I was using my Snugpak Under Blanket and my Snugpak Top quilt. I was dressed in Snugpak Snugfeet as I often get cold feet, Snugpak Sleeka Salopettes, Snugpak Sleeka Jacket and the Snugpak Snugnut Hat. I did have to undo the zip on my Jacket a few times to let some heat escape so i didnt sweat too much, But i was never cold. I'm not affiliated with Snugpak in anyway, Bought there Softie 12 Ospray Sleeping Bag and Sleeker Jacket in 1995 when I served in The Army, and was might impressed with them that I dont hesitate to buy there stuff, Granted the quality is not as great as it was, but you vant beat them on price.

Luke. Great review. I love my Snugpak gear. I use the Snugpak Cocoon and love it. Same material but setup is very quick. I also like it because it encircles you 360. It can get too warm sometimes but it is easy to open up and let air in. Weight is a lot more than then under quilt though so if you are watching weight, not good. Still my hammock go to gear. Love the cost of the Snugpak gear.

A nice advertisement for this product. This looks like a better option for those wishing in to spend a summer hanging in the woods near the house. This system is on the heavy side with a higher fuss factor. I heard compression sacks are murder on the long term durability of synthetic fabrics. Is this no longer the case for the insulation they are using. A long term use review showing loft degradation might be interesting if you take it on several sequential days. Good luck with your under-"blanket".

when you took your snugpak down to 29 degrees what did you sleep in? it's hard to tell what a system will handle when everyone where's so much diff. stuff to sleep. down booties, down jackets, balaclava, down hats. I would like to be able to sleep in a base layer and maybe a clean set of cloths.

If you set it up like that, and it rains aren't you going to get the UQ wet? Need to have drip lines if you leave lines tied to the tree like that. Also, I've seen quite a few videos where following the directions and doubling over the inner tie ups leads to too much tension and it rips out the tabs. DId you double over the shock lines for the inner tie ups?

I used an emergency sleeping bag kind of like the space blanket but much more tougher material type thing there little more spending other than a space blanket but they're not as noisy you poke a hole in at the toe of the sleeping bag and slide it over your hammock it keeps the wind off your butt combined with a crash pad sleeping pad and completely Cancun's you in another shelter over top of you long with your hammock tarp very cheap 20 to 30 bucks if I remember correctly and very very light small compact
