I think bringing back destiny is a good thing. Krakoa needs it's precocs just like arako has there's. If they want a tactical advantage against nimrod and orcis. And they need to protect themself better that's Wy I like it how bishop became the captain commander. He's been fighting a war sinds childhood and he has the military training and police training from the future that's Cyclops doesn't!. And specially there technology.

@@1187underground Jean can be super compelling when the writers understand her character. The current writers clearly don't, which is why they have her parading round in that awful costume, and taking a complete backseat role despite being more powerful than almost anyone else there. I wanna see her thoughts on events that have happened whilst she was dead, I want her to reckon with Madelyne Pryor, I want her to start manifesting the phoenix on her own (I think they should be the same being). They just brought her back and completely underutilized her. I miss Bendis Jean.

There are three theories I have on the return of Destiny: 1) Mystique used her influence as a member of the council and convinced the five to act on their own to resurrect Destiny. 2) Mystique did something when the Scarlet Witch was killed and later resurrected which also resurrected Destiny. Magic is unpredictable but a conduit like Destiny’s mask (which Mystique has) could make it happen. 3) That’s not Destiny at all but Hope Summers using Mystique’s powers to look like Destiny. Hope didn’t sit well with Xavier’s telepathic invasion of Magneto’s mind when the Scarlet Witch was killed so she may be a bit rebellious. Apparently Mystique has a resistance to telepathy (not sure how or why) so Xavier wouldn’t know it’s Hope in disguise.

@aby carl It’s possible but I think Sinister doesn’t like Mystique because she betrayed him during the Messiah Complex story arc if I remember correctly. I suspect Hope Summers may play a role in this. But Destiny’s mask could be used as a mystic conduit for her resurrection via the return on the Scarlet Witch. I can’t wait to see what happened.

@@vginsprdsobepr9698 I don't think Mystique's betrayal matters. Amnesty has given everyone a blank slate. And Sinister is implied to be complicit with Mystique. He was emphatic in Jean and Apocalypse conceding their Quiet Council positions due to their participation in X of Swords. It wouldn't be surprising that Sinister is vying for changes in management to serve his own interests. Having an extra vote in his favor would benefit him. Emma already went out of her way to destroy Sinister's first Chimera after all. And we know from HoX/PoX that Sinister is destined to create several generations of Chimera mutants over the years.

@ Yedo I missed the story where Emma tried to destroy Sinister’s first Chimera. How long ago was it? Somehow I don’t think Sinister would help Mystique considering that he already has everything he wanted thanks to his alliance with Charles Xavier. I still think Destiny might be Hope Summers using Mystique’s powers but let’s wait and see. While Sinister is still perfecting his Chimeras let’s not forget that there already existed a previous generation of “chimeras “ known as Cerebro’s X-Men”. It’s a story arc I read when I was I high school which could easily play a role considering how similar both teams are. Cerebro’s merges Jean and Magneto to create Grey King who seemed to have a Phoenix aura around him. My favorite was Rapture who looked just like Mystique but with Angel’s wings and wore a nun’s habitat hinting at Nightcrawler’s DNA. I’d like to see them return. Google the story if you have the time I’m sure you’ll like it.

@@vginsprdsobepr9698 Emma Frost planted a mole in Sinister's Hellions: Empath. Once Sinister revealed his Tarn-Chimera clone, Empath revealed his hand and took control of Havok. Havok then nuked Sinister's secret lab and presumably the Chimera. It was the last issue of Hellions. I think Sinister has proven to be opportunistic. He'll align himself in the direction of the most favorable wind. Presumably the Quiet Council has imposed restrictions on Sinister's scientific curiosity. This is particularly why he's gone to great lengths to manipulate his Hellions into assisting him in the creation of his first Chimera. But if he can change the roster of the Quiet Council to mutants that support his research, he'll probably jump at the opportunity. And further, Resurrection begins with Sinister. Without Sinister's genetic index, there literally is no resurrection. If Mystique did resurrect Destiny, it would have been with Sinister's help. As for Cerebro's X-Men, I think I know who you're talking about. I read it years back. It was a fun story for sure. But I don't think we can classify them as Chimera mutants. I think it was revealed that they were nanotechnology and not biological. The term Chimera is a new term that emerged in HoX/PoX. Chimera are specified to be genetically engineered artificial mutants with multiple X-genes. Moira explicitly states that Sinister is the first Mutant chimera in her 10th life.

@Yedo I remember Cerebro’s X-Men were nanotechnology and suspect it could have two outcomes if reintroduced. One is that Sinister could use them as a blueprint for his second wave of Chimera mutants. My second theory is that Cerebro’s X-Men could end up taking over the future Phalanx considering it’s an invasive technological society thus Cerebro’s X-Men would be the perfect counterattack against deaths like the cellular breakdown they gave the Chimera X-Men with the computer brain (I forgot her name). She died a slow painful death as her cells were broken down slowly. Nanotechnology wouldn’t have that problem. I hope Sinister uses them as a blueprint and resurrects them in organic bodies. They all had their own personalities and I’d like to see Rapture join Nightcrawler’s mutant religion. She looked so cool in her nuns habitat with her wings and sword. She was truly majestic and prestigious.

There’s a gazillion mutants yet plot dictates send those pointless little strike teams. Really there’s enough mutants to completely overtake that station, do something with Nimord, and then take their time doing whatever they please to destroy, dismantle or transform it into something else.

There were more X-Men invading Avalon during Fatal Attractions than what they send to deal with Orchis. Send a SWARM of mutants in to completely overpower that station…They already had 2 gates established, even still, use gateway teleporters like Hub, Gateway and Magic to teleport large amounts in at different locations; psychics like Emma, Betsy, Kid Omega, and the Cuckoos to QUICKLY shut down all minds on the station and absorb necessary information; fighters like Wolverine, Kwannon, Shatterstar, Warpath, Nightcrawler, M, Colossus, to quickly deal with anybody mind shielded at close range; various long range powers/abilities like Cyclops and Havok (long range energy) Exodus, Hellion, Jean (TK), Domino and Scalphunter (guns) to deal with long range threats; Cable, Forge, Sage, Beast to deal with all the tech and science stuff dealing with whatever they want to do to the station (Kate of course can disrupt tech by phasing if need be). I’m sure Bishop’s powers could come in handy. Or Gambit if something needs a charge. Northstar’s speed could help on multiple fronts. Magneto with Polaris would be useful as part of a complete plan. Storm across multiple books at this point has been shown to affect environments from space with different uses. Need fire for any reason? Pyro, Sunfire, even Lockheed. Use the Xorns. Hell throw Legion in there for shizz sakes. Rogue, Synch and Hope to duplicate whatever they need more of. Use teleporters to move healers like Elixir, Triage and Healer where needed for quick fixes. And Multiple Man can pretty much help everywhere. SEND THEM ALL IN. And all together there’s no way they can’t take out or at least get rid of both Omega Sentinel and Nimrod. And many of them are multi-helpful (example, Magneto is no slouch at science/tech himself, Magik teleports but is also a great fighter, Nightcrawler can zip people around where needed quickly, etc.) Not to mention the alliances with the Starjammers, Sidri, Brood and Shi’Ar, and that debt Xandra owes to Storm, there’s no sense in using little resources sparingly when your future depends on it. I get there’s gotta be a plot, but there’s just no reason for this story at this point to be like this. If everybody I mentioned died there’d STILL be a ton of mutants left who would willingly fight.

I think the reason Wy she doesn't want destiny coming back becouse the way destiny killed her. I think the trauma of that is still there and she can't see beyond her experience whit destiny. I think that's the mistake you see in many story's of the marvel universe. People who want to be hero's and safe lives but when it comes down to it they mess up becouse of there own personal problems and they and up making things worst.

This issue had me wondering about Moira. Her reasons for not wanting to resurrect Destiny seem personal..not for the good of Krakoa. And what was she doing in Paris with that notebook from her third life?

EXACTLY. I'm surprised so few are pointing this out. Why is Moira afraid of Destiny in particular in life 10? Destiny promised that she would only stop Moira if she used her gifts against Mutant kind. So if Moira isn't working against mutants, she should have nothing to fear from Destiny. The fact that she carries a journal with information on the mutant cure from life 3, to me, implies that Moira may still think Mutants are a disease that needs to be cured.

Ever since the announcement of this book and all the marketing that went with it, I was not as excited for a book ever since HoX/PoX. Then we heard things about Hickman leaving the line (for now?) and that this would only be 4 oversized issues. Now that it's finally here, idk I wished I loved it more. Normally I wouldn't mind with slow setup issues. That's pretty much what this was. For Inferno specifically though, it's only going to be 4 issues, with pages wasted for a 1:1 recreation of the scene from HoX 2 when Destiny finds Moira. The ending was great I will say. It was a bombshell of an ending and I loved that Hickman pulled that card for the first issue (again, probably because there's only 3 more issues of this). Something kinda tells me that Inferno would have looked slightly different if Hickman had proceeded with his original plan. We get more updates on Orchis, Nimrod, Moira, and even Hordeculture, but nothing on the Children of the Vault, Apocalypse, or Planet Arakko. I'm just worried the story is going to be rushed. Another thing, on more of a macro scale, someone commented in Comic Book Herald's video about Inferno that I completely agree with. Basically talking about how Inferno (and the X-Line as a whole) feels disconnected, but particularly in Inferno's case being Hickman's ending on this grand experiment. To really hammer home its significance, it could have either been a stop-all title (like HoX/PoX, where nothing X-related was running concurrently to interrupt it) or it should have involved every other title (like XoS, but not with 22 issues preferably lmao). In either case, it makes Inferno feel important, but even though it's being touted as a major closing chapter, other books are still coming out seemingly unrelated to it. If they wanted to take the XoS approach, you wouldn't have to relegate the 16 attempted attacks on Orchis to a data page; that should've been a whole X-Force issue (especially cause I want that XENO plot to just end already lol) and on that same page assassins from Avalon were hired which should've been an Excalibur issue, etc. There isn't even a mention of Trial of Magneto. I don't want this book to end up like Doomsday Clock, where it was supposed to be the biggest thing that DC Rebirth was building towards, but ultimately did not matter because DC didn't want to deal with it after a while. Still, very interested to see how this all ends. In a perfect world, Hickman's 3-act X-Men story would be fully realized and these complaints might be completely voided. Still, the book's got Hickman's name on it, which is enough for me, flaws and all. An X-Office without Hickman and keeping Gerry Duggan and Tini Howard doesn't quite excite me though...

Happens with species that can heal extremely quickly too. They tend to take more risks, just the nature of that particular adaptation. Would also explain why nature doesn't have super healing built in (that and the fact that it would be tough to control at the cellular level, too many opportunities for cancer or disease).

You know when it comes to peace with the machines, in Jed Mackays Infinite Destinies Avengers there's a machine called Multitude that's actually very inquisitive and talks about mutants humans and how he himself as a synthetic person are the three species of earth, I would love it if he meets any X-men and maybe even Reed or Strange, someone philosophical and has that conversation and has that conversation about how they're all connected it's actually one of my favourite Annuals

Checkmate for Mystique. Maybe if Magneto and his followers didn't do the terrible things that they did there would be no Nimrod, no funding support for one. Despite what Magneto believes, he and his followers were no better then the Friends of Humanity because they too had a lot of innocent victims, while there are others who had done the same and were pretty much seat holders of the Quiet Council. They pretty much helped the human bigots more then their own kind while making up "mutant philosophy" to make it seem that it's different when a mutant does it. Magneto was a hypocrite who did more harm to his people then good and practically co-founded the Friends of Humanity through action.

I don't think Moira will be asking for Destiny's counsel personally. In Moira's third life, Destiny promised to stop Moira if she continued to use her gifts against mutant kind. In the next lives up to her 10th life, Moira appeared to be living in support of Mutant kind. If that's the case, Destiny would not be a threat. But if Moira perceives Destiny to be a threat in life 10? This could mean that Moira is reverting back to the perspective she had in her third life--that mutants are a disease that needs to be cured.

according to current canon, he was never a mutant in the first place. his powers (you know the ones he was born with because of his mutate parents... grrrrr) allowed him to subconsciously rewrite his DNA to pass as a mutant. he is depowered now so his "DNA is human". needless to say, i'm not a fan of this retcon. it's needless on the surface, and does not make a whole lot of since. it adds to my love hate relationship with the hickman era of x-men. it's great, but it's definitely not my x-men.

The one question I have after reading Inferno is simply: why is Moira afraid of Destiny? Even since the beginning of HoX/PoX, I found it hard to accept Moira as a benevolent figure. The cover of the last issue of PoX depicted Moira standing over the bodies of the X-men, much in the same way she is depicted in Inferno's cover. Then there's the fact that she's killed many mutants over her previous 9 lives, including Magneto. She also denied fellow mutants like Blindfold the right to resurrection--a right guaranteed to all other mutants on Krakoa. To me this is not the behavior of a champion of Mutant kind. Which brings me to the quandary of Destiny. Why is Moira afraid of her? Destiny promised that she'd only come after Moira if Moira continued to use her gifts against mutant kind. After dying to Destiny in life 3, Moira appeared to be fighting for the mutant cause in every life up to her current 10th life. So why, in her 10th life, is Moira suddenly fearful of Destiny's survival? To me this heavily implies that Moira is not on the side of mutants. She originally thought Mutants were a disease and had to be "convinced". While I'm not fond of Mystique, Destiny's role has me intrigued. I may be wrong, but I find it convincing to lean more towards Destiny's perspective than Moira's. Maybe Moira is a wolf in sheep's clothing, and Destiny is the only one who knows. All that being said, this was a fun issue. I love that Bishop and Kwannon got promotions as great captains of Krakoa. But I'm hoping neither of them are clowned like Gorgon was.

Mora's not exactly scared of Destiny, she's just wary of her because of how her powers work. Moira can reincarnate and alter a timeline into a different one, Destiny can see into the future and see how things will go. They are each other's antithesis. The one thing that Moira doesn't like about Destiny, or any precog, is that many of them can see far into the future, the distant future, not just the immediate one, and they can find out that mutants always lose. Every lifetime Moira has lived, no matter what she has done, no matter who she has gone to, or what option she has taken, mutants always end up being killed by either humans or the machines they create. In every life, someone has created sentinels and sent them after mutants; she originally thought it was solely the Trask bloodline that was responsible for them, which is why she assassinated all of them, but later found out that even if every Trask is killed, someone else will just take after them and create the sentinels. Every lifetime, every alternate reality has ended with the same thing, and even this one she's in now, possibly her last one, mutants are apparently still going to lose, even though she's trying her damnedest to change things. If everyone were to find out, what do you think would happen? A complete loss of morale, what's the point in fighting if you lose anyway? Everybody would give up and just stop trying, everything that has been built would be destroyed. Hell, the reason Blindfold killed herself was because she saw herself being killed, with every future death being gruesome and miserable. That's pretty much how it is here. It's likely that if every Krakoan were to udnerstand just what their future is/has been, they'd all just kill themselves and get it over with. Better than waiting to be killed or enslaved by the oppressors who they've spent years trying to escape from. Imo, Moira is just like any person would be who had the kind of knowledge that she does. She's willing to do whatever she can to protect those she cares about, even if others will see her as a monster. She's tried to do the right thing many times over, tried to take every available option to prevent the destruction of her people, only for it to fail horribly because of the petty prejudices of mankind. She's become worn down and exhausted by what's going on to the point where she doesn't care about morals or ethics anymore and she's willing to try and help mutantkind thrive even if that means sacrificing a mutant or two to do so. Basically, she's going off of the whole "can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs" mentality. Also, for one other thing you said, Moira had only developed that cure in her 2nd life to try and help mutants. It would be given to mutants who were physically deformed or had powers they couldn't control so that they could have a chance to be happy and not have to deal with the racism and discrimination such things would bring, to blend in. It was meant for good. but like Destiny said, it could easily be used for bad, to harm mutants, to eradicate them. Moira had meant well, but she didn't think it through. She never wanted to destroy mutants.

She explicitly states that she fears Destiny. On the subject of Destiny, Moira speaks: "Dont lie about this. It's what keeps me up at night. It's that *one thing I truly fear.* And I haven't slept peacefully for a thousand years. I cannot--will not--accept her breathing Krakoan air. I want her gone. Forever." *If this is not Moira explicitly stating that she fears Destiny, I don't know what is.* The other point I would dispute is the motives behind her cure--I wouldn't frame her intent as a particularly benevolent or altruistic. Especially by Moira's *own admission,* that her motives derive from some measure of self-hate. When confronted by Destiny in Inferno, Moira explicitly states, *"It's a disease--what we are."* She says this before stating that she'll only cure people who want it. But to call yourself and your own demographic a disease or affliction? That's not a positive perspective. And Destiny is correct, as with any cure, Moira's would have been abused and exploited regardless of her intent. Beast's recent cure (in the recent Uncanny X-men run), for example, was used to liquify mutants instead of cure them. And Beast had good intentions. But my point is, Moira's intent doesn't come from a place of compassion, it comes from a place of self-loathing because she views herself and her kind as a blight on the world--a blight that needs to be cured. *And that's a pretty problematic viewpoint for a mutant to have about themselves and their own race.* As for the intent of Moira in general. I can't really say too much about that. Based on how you've framed your perspective, it seems like you're much more sympathetic toward Moira than I am. Not saying you're wrong, but it's not something I can agree with. And I doubt I'd be able to convince you on my perspective either. And it's mostly due to the fact that we have practically little to no information of what Moira is planning, or what her overall motives are. We've hardly seen her at all outside of HoX/PoX. We can only speculate that Moira is good or bad due to the lack of information in general. Based on the information we have, and my interpretation, I don't think Moira is trustworthy. *To deny other mutants specific rights just because of their specific mutant characteristics is inherently discriminatory in itself.* You can justify discrimination with good intentions but that does not make the discrimination itself good. The fact of the matter is that resurrection is a right given to all mutants, and she has chosen to deny this right to mutants like Blindfold and Destiny. That is categorically unfair especially when far worse have been given amnesty.

@@jorienwachukwu466 Aye. I think the intent is to cast doubt on the leaders of Krakoa. Even Magneto and Xavier don't seem genuine or legimitate based on recent decisions they've made. Dawn of X ended the arc of Apocalypse. And I feel by the end of X of Swords, he proved to be a much more benevolent figure in the context of Krakoa. Reign of X will likely "end/begin" Moira's arc. So we'll be able to determine soon whether or not she fights for mutant kind, or the reverse.
