This was actually really helpful, I have a really low release point throwing from short and it does tail quite a bit from a throw deep in the hole, gonna work on getting it up. Thanks.

My 9 yr old is one of those kids that is throwing side arm, actually pitching that way now which he wasn't doing 6 months ago. He has a mind of his own. Throwing a lot of strikes so no one is complaining. But idk what to think of it.

But if you have a four seam grip and throw the side arm that wont have a back spin it would have a side kind of spin right?
@jackfitt5803
@jackfitt5803 3 жыл бұрын
It’s got something called bullet spin which doesn’t bring it up the way back spin does but if you have enough power to make the throw without needing backspin (which isn’t that much more power) then it doesn’t really matte

why do their left arm go so low? Instead of chest high they go around the hip area. When I tried it my throws were weaker and it tailed to the left

I like how your video debunks the fact that you can't copy pro players to play ball you need to use your body's natural motions to get the most out of it and to the guys who are asking about arm angles and how to put more on the throw its actually simpler than you think. You can throw any arm angle as long as you body is at a certain strength but in order to throw from any angle without injury no matter what you have to finish your follow through with your palm down and your throwing hand thumb basically jabbing your opposite hip also you have to get as much extension as possible and put the force of the release on your pointer finger this will allow you to throw at any arm angle and not hurt your elbow and as for throwing strength its all lower body you have to get momentum towards your target also the faster you whip your arm through your motion the faster you throw but to play infield you don't need to throw hard you just need to be quick and this isn't just my opinion this is what I've learned from practicing with double A Players everyday and meeting pro scouts while playing ball earlier in school also played with high school draft picks

I am a current Shortstop and im trying to transition to 2nd base, and was wondering if it would be better to throw side arm like most second basemans, or to just throw the ball how I do at shortstop (over the top)? Also, where you drafted and what position did you play? Thanks!
@AntonelliBaseball
@AntonelliBaseball 10 жыл бұрын
I don't think you need to make any major adjustments to your throwing mechanics as a second baseman. The only place you will have to work on in your double play turns because that takes some practice. Yes I was drafted by the San Diego Padres and I played all infield positions. Thanks for watching!

As with most infield positions, you have to be ready to throw from different angles and arm positions, so don't be shy about practicing these DURING PRACTICE (after all, that's what practice is for. You don't want to break out new throws during an actual game). Overhand throws when you need to make a longer throw (deep in the hole). A pure sidearm throw when speed is critical or when charging hard and having to scoop the ball AND throw quickly, and maybe a 3/4s throw on a double-play. All that in addition to throwing to your shortstop on double plays (or force plays to second). You have a reverse-pivot, a right leg drop, an underhand toss or tricep flip.

Thanks again for another great video TEAB. What do you think about this question for youth up to high school players? It came up recently aboit what kind of arm circle should be used from the hole at 3B and SS. I said it depends on how strong the player is with his short arm on his size of field (60, 80, and 90 ft baes), how hard the ball is hit, the speed of the runner--and at the younger ages--how well the 1B can dig the ball out of the dirt.
@AntonelliBaseball
@AntonelliBaseball 10 жыл бұрын
Yeah arm circles depend on a lot of stuff. Some guys have really short arm circles and can still get a lot on the throw. Most MLB guys are like that. Young kids are going to tend to have a longer arm circle. I say the shorter the better, but that is obviously something that comes with age, strength, etc.

Any tips on just making normal throws from 3rd? Been making a few errors over or under throwing.

You just have to keep practicing throwing a bunch. The only way to get better at making accurate throws is to make a ton of throws.

Hey I'm a sophomore in hs and I play short and third. I am feeling that I have to gun the ball to get it to first base. I know I have the arm strength I just feel like the ball has a lot of sink to it and in result they have to be picked. I was wondering if maybe I am holding the ball to hard or my footwork is wrong? Whatever just wondering if you had any suggestions.

Hey man 3rd base and short are 2 different concepts my friend 3rd is 1 of 2 things hot shots or slow rollers 3rd base your have time build momentum towards first treat your arm like a whip and just let go but still get extension forward as for short its a read position read the ball pick a bounce and throw accordingly but again use your lower body get momentum and throw throwing is lower body look at Justin verlander skinny lil arm big legs = 100mph fastball think about it

what should be your arm angle turning double plays and bunts at 3rd
@jaysmothers3183
@jaysmothers3183 9 жыл бұрын
Over the top is useless in the infield give 3 quarter on standard plays sidearm if you gotta be quick throw on the run for slow roller bunts over the top takes too much time and it actually prevents your from using your full arm strength my big freaking comment at the top explains how to throw without tearing up your elbow

How about staying behind the ball?
@AntonelliBaseball
@AntonelliBaseball 10 жыл бұрын
When throwing? I would say that when people say you are not staying behind the ball it means you are pulling hard with your glove side causing you to pull to one side instead of staying towards your target.

@jaysmothers3183

Your arm is not lagging you have 2 options slow down your lower body which is bad so don't do that or 2 you shorten your arm motion or speed up your arm and get on top of the ball

If you're turning a double play and throwing to first it is the runner's responsibility to get out of the way once they're out. Throw to first as if they weren't there and if they don't get out of the way they sure as hell will every time after that.

and why when infielders finish, their throwing hand swipes left to their chest instead of diagonal to their hip?
@AntonelliBaseball
@AntonelliBaseball 10 жыл бұрын
It depends on your arm slot. If you are over the top you will finish lower, if you have a lower arm slot you will finish higher across the chest.
