Right now the mod is growing extremely fast despite being fresh new since February. You already missed brand new: - Copycat doors; - Copycat slopes (yes); - Copycat shafts; - Copycat smol and large cogwheels; - Copycat pipes and so on. Oh, and also tooltip refactor that made it a lot more informative 😄

This is what happens when tech mod devs decide to add some features for builders. Some of the most groundbreaking stuff I've seen, and it feels done effortlessly. I'm not much of a builder myself, but I still love copycat stuff because it simplifies the building process to the point that even I can make cool stuff.

Having made C:Power Loader and C:Connected, I'd say Copycats+ is the most technically demanding one yet 😅Although you are absolutely right in saying that copycats simplify building, since that's exactly why I started working on copycats.

@@LysineAA Oh definitely, from a technical game design standpoint, it's very impressive how you got the textures to look so clean and natural when applied to so many different shapes. From a normal player's perspective, it seems so intuitive and elegant, easy to understand while still providing so much room for creativity, just like vanilla Minecraft building. Thanks for covering Copycats+! Sorry for not updating our descriptions on CF/MR, but our most recent 2.0 update has added copycat pipes and cogwheels and has brought tons of rendering improvements, especially for copycats that can accept multiple textures in the same block space. Hope you enjoy color-coding your pipes and shafts :P

yo i love this mod i do have one question tho what is the purpose of the copycat block ? does it have weird feature because otherwise it has no point right because only blocks can work in it so why use the extra space. i might be missing something but i love the mod either way keep up the great work

@@caligusto Which kind of connections do you mean? Beams already do connected textures and they also have placement helpers.

@@camer5371 The copycat block is useful when you want the texture of a block but not its properties, such as having obsidian that is movable by contraptions, coral blocks that don't require water, and ice blocks that don't melt.

Don't know if the copycat blocks can cause lag, but if they dont, you could also sparingly use Chisel & Bits for finer detailing that the copycat blocks can't do. Chisel & Bits can cause lag if used all the time, so using the features of the copycat blocks instead is good.

What I like about this mod is that for the most part, there is no need to add furniture mods. Just use what create has and get creative with the copycats+ mod! (and because no need to add furniture mods, you can avoid more clutter in inventories, since its just a copycat + a normal block minecraft already has or create adds.)

my god i have always been dreaming about the bytes, its just so peak, we can build anything and it still feels vanilla, unlike that old chisel mod or carpentry with the slopes and curves. also i think these would be great for armor and tanks, the blocks retain the used material's properties dont they ? so you could do bytes with one layer of obsidian and one layer of whatever else, armor can be made a lot more compact instead of full blocks

Please note that copycat boards can also be placed multiple times in the same block, so you can make the catwalk and box using it, and any combination of boards and rotations in the same block

WARNING: Do not use copycats too much (especially in a small area) because the game counts them as entities which will make your world extremely laggy. Also if you use world edit, always type /kill @e (please place a bed for a respawn point as the command will kill you) every time you cut something with copycats as it drops items.

framed technically has more block options, but they do not retain nbt data. so if you are playing with create and use the schematics, you will have to manually fill every framed block. i feel like framed blocks really only offers a wider variety of niche sloped blocks. if you aren't building with slopes, im not sure if framed blocks offers anything different.

Copycats just does it better than framed blocks. Copycats actually automatically puts the edge textures of the block onto the edge of the copycat, while framed blocks just cuts off the texture and makes it feel extremely unnatural. It also doesn’t stretch textures on slopes, it just adds more of the middle texture in between the ends while making it look natural. I’d recommend seeing it for yourself and taking a look at the mod.

Copycats are obviously less efficient than normal blocks in terms of performance, but in practice, the lag caused by copycats is basically negligible. Copycats have no effect on TPS/MSPT and only a small effect on FPS due to rendering more quads. The majority of "lag" caused by copycats is in the render thread, which translates to a delay between you placing a block and seeing the block appear in the world. Even then, the delay is not noticeable unless you have thousands of copycats in a single 16x16 chunk.

Copy cat are not really new. I mean there where carpenter block and other. The problem is that all of them use a tile antity which can kill your map and fps. So I would say. Use them when there is no other choice.

I feel like all these copycat blocks takes away from creativity (just like its predecessors). In vanilla, to get a complex shape you have to really stretch the uses of the block shapes you have. Doing it all with copycat blocks just feels cheap and unrewarding.

I personally like having more options for example if I was trying to make a large staircase but wanted a red carpet going up it I couldn’t really do it but with this I could make wool stairs so at least for me it doesn’t inhibit creativity
