I just did this today on my 08 G37 coupe after watching your video. My gas gauge had been acting up the last few weeks. I cleaned the sensors on both sides of the tank. Was a pretty easy fix. Went for a drive after and the gauge still seemed way off. I came home shut off and restarted the car and right away it was reading near empty like it should. Filled up and all seems good now. Another way to look at the problem is to check the resistance between terminals 2 and 5 on the fuel sensor unit and fuel pump (passenger side). Should read 3 ohms Full and 80 ohms empty. Then drivers side should read 3 and 43 , respectively between terminals 1 and 2. If these are in range, then issue is with dashboard gauge. If out of range, then try cleaning as suggested in this video. If dashboard gauge, a crude fix is to put a variable resistor (10 -100 ohm) across the above terminals for each sender, and find the “sweet” spot where the gauge reads half full when actually full and empty when a quarter full.

Great video. Thanks for posting. Best way to depressurize the fuel system is to remove the fuel pump fuses/relays while the engine is running. When the engine cuts out then the pressure is relieved from the system.

Note: Toggling the accessory power on and off will cycle the fuel pump, however the air bubble won't be relieved until gas is pushed into the motor. You should get at least a rough idle until (or an engine stall) until the bubble is worked out.

Those little bolts you have to take out are 8mm. Mine had paint on them I had to chip off to get the wrench on. I tried a screw driver but just ended up stripping out the screw head. So best advice is just use 8mm wrench or a socket if you can get in on. May have to chip off the paint first before a socket will fit. One other thing, be careful around the edge of that circular opening, its sharp. Found out the hard way.

@@tonser316 it just wasn't reading right. But give this a try it might fix it the needle might be stuck. And while you're at it go ahead and use the Q-tip in the alcohol and clean it all off. But be careful of the gasket do not disturb it otherwise you'll have to get a new one

@@tonser316 I don't know what type of vehicle you got. But my vehicle was an Infiniti G35 four-door sedan. And it worked out great. I did my buddies Nissan 350Z and it made the engine light come on. We just put a code scanner on it deleted the code that was coming up. The code was air in the fuel tank. He's gone several weeks and the engine light has not came back on. He also hit the gasket and the gasket would not fit again. So he had to get a new one. That's why I said don't disturb the gasket otherwise you'll have to get a new one

That's Not related to fuel line pressure , if it was fuel pressure would go up and down with the fuel level of the tank. Remove fuse while running let the car run dry pressure is now zero.

Did you disconnect the battery first? Unscrew fuel cap to relieve tank pressure. When you disconnected the plug before removing the sender unit you might consider sending 12 volts to the guage to rule out a faulty guage. Electrical contact cleaner can help you clean the contact surfaces on both the fixed and the moving arm. Very helpful video.

The pins are on top of the tanks. When you pull the connector off, just put the probes in the connector on top of the fuel tank. No need to pull out the pump and float, but cleaning them may help as the video shows. In my case it did not and I replaced both sides, but that did not help. So my problem was with the fuel gauge in the dashboard, which is expensive. Hence the variable resistors.

Use a pink eraser to clean electrical contacts. Also you can check the range of resistance as you clean it with a multimeter. make sure it works before putting it back together. Don't make any sparks...

My G's fuel gauge started acting up a couple days ago. The needle started going up to 1/2 tank while I was driving, even though I knew I only had about a 1/4 tank left. I filled it all the way up, so the needle on the fuel gauge went up. But after driving for about 90 miles, the needle hasn't dropped one bit. It still shows a full tank. Probably because the fuel line is too short and awkward. You could try it your way but the pump assembly is so big that you'd pull the hose off and get gas everywhere resulting in fuel everywhere instead. I know because I did this yesterday.

I pulled mine out to clean it and discovered the little plastic cover was long gone. Either it’s floating around in my gas tank, or some mechanic for the previous owner forgot to put it back on. It seems to hold the pointer against the little piano key thing.

side not to not having the gas come out when your doing your g is this. find the fuel pump fuse . take it out . then get in your car and turn the car on . of course it wont start because you took out the fuel fuse. but this will release the fuel pressure from your car . once you replace the part all you have to do is put the fuse back on . connect everything you took apart . then give the car a start . it will crank at first but wont start . this is due to the fuel engaging with the fuel line and giving this the pressure it needs. it should start up after one or two cranks .

Should note, there is a secondary sender on the driver's side also. More difficult to access perhaps for Z owners, as the Bose sunwoofer has to be removed, etc. Or removal of the tank. See my channel for detailed fuel tank video (removed).

I have a 2005 G35 SEDAN and the issue I am having is knowing for a fact that I have a half a tank one minute the needle will show half a tank and the next minute after driving it for 5 miles the needle is sitting on low with the light on and later it corrects itself! Mine might be the actual pump. Or it might be that I am not placing the float in the right position. I have an M45 so it's difficult to tell if it's aligned back in the same spot inside the tank. It's getting irritating so I might just take it to the dealership. There's a recall on that issue.
