Excellent video!! Saved me a trip to the dealership and probably a few hundred dollars. I was doing oil change for my Q50. But, the passenge side latch got stuck. It turned out that my cable was fine but the rotating part of the latch had rusted out and the spring couldn't reset the latch. The solution was to spray some WD 40 and use a long screw driver to pry the latch open. Before you do that, you may want to use the long screw driver to push the latch trigger to make sure it has been released. To do that, you will need to take off the fender liner. It is almost impossible to do it with the tire mounted. I would suggest taking the tire off. Space is so tight. Just be patient and you will hear the hood pop open. One thing to note, if you don't want to change the latch, make sure you lubricate the latch from the top after you have the hood open. and use a screw driver to lock and release the latch several times until it moves freely. It took me an hour to figure out why the passenger side hood had a half inch gap when it was closed. Thanks bro.

Hey man, where does the rectangle plastic piece (4:18 on the video) that holds the cables to and from the latch go? Mine had the wires attached but was hanging loose. So when you would pull the hood latch, the rectangle plastic piece needs to stay still correct? i just cant find where to attach it to

It attaches to the cables coming from inside the cabin. When u pull the cable from the cabin it it will pull the ones i show in the video

Thanks this is helpful, my problem is not a latch failure, but my battery died and lost all charge from setting because of a leaking heater core and I'm unable to unlock the door to get to the hood release. And for whatever reason even the key that you pull out of the fob will no unlock the door or trunk even though it go's in and can turn the lock hub in both directions. So my best bet is to take both front wheels off to release each latch? Thanks for the vid.

Im having the same issue My latch seems to be working fine. I tested it with a screw driver. Now when I try to close the hood it won’t lock in. Not sure what is the issue, It works to open but on my passenger side it won’t lock. Has me pissed tf off

Push a flat head into the latch so see if it would latch you might have to use both hands but try and make a full rotation if it does not lock then it is defective, if it does then the clamp on the hood might have to be adjusted/lowered a bit, Good luck
@theoriginaldex2 жыл бұрын
@@thevqsanctuary520 thanks do you know how to lower the clamp? My latch works fine. Clamp doesn’t want to lock in not sure why.

@@thevqsanctuary520 it’s pretty weird because my latch works perfectly fine. I tried putting my arms threw the tires too confirm the clamp actually hits the latch and it does. I tried wiggling the latch while the hood was in closed position, Nothing. It’s almost like the clamp is short which is pretty weird because I can close the hood fully just won’t lock. Got me stressing cuz it’s pouring where I’m at 😂
@thevqsanctuary5202 жыл бұрын
@@theoriginaldex honestly no clue, try and measure both the clamp on the hood to see if they stick out the same length, just to rule that out. And also make sure the latch on the side that does not lock is bolted on correctly it should have no wiggle or play

Man I have a G37 and the hood is stuck on the passenger side. I took the wheel well piece off to access the latch. I see it and am pushing it but it just won’t release the hood. I even had my neighbor helping out. He pulled the release from inside the cabin and I can see it moving in the same direction as I was pushing it. Still nothing. WTF!? The mechanism doesn’t seem to be failing. It’s just like it’s saying F YOU! Any advice?
@thevqsanctuary520 Жыл бұрын
Make sure that the latch it opening fully, sometimes the wire stretches so it loses tension. When manually trying to open don’t be gentle it wont brake. Also try pushing the hood down a few times on both sides it could just be stuck because the driver side opened and is putting tension on the passenger side of the hood. Last thing i would say if have someone push up on the hood with some force while you manually try to unlock it, use a flat head so more pressure could be applied. Good luck

@@thevqsanctuary520 thanks for the quick feedback man. I’ve tried all of that. I just spoke to my mechanic and he says he’s seen this before on the same model car. He said they ended up having to break the grill, break the latch then replace both. Ended up costing the guy over a grand. On top of that I’d have 2 get it towed 2 the shop since the battery’s dead 🤦🏾♂️

@@clsupreme7408 that’s ridiculous, keep trying, have someone push remedially on the passenger side hood while you try to release the latch. My fx had the same problem, at one point it was literally not responding but i kept trying. If all else fails at least try to cut the latch using the entrance of the wheel well. The rubber piece is a seal to keep water and dust out of the engine bay, held down by plastic pins. They break really easily but are also very cheap to replace. Sorry for the late response.

What is securing the black box.
@thevqsanctuary5209 ай бұрын
If you are referring to where the two hood latch cables meet the cable going to the cabin, then the box usually clicks closed but for our we needed to use tape due to wear and wear. Also on the chassis there are spots were the cable clicks into too so it wont just be dangling.

Never in all the cars I’ve owned have I ever had a hood latch failure. And I’ve owned some junk. This Infiniti JX 35 hood latch is just a super poor design. It should have been one center latch by cable and 2 finger latches left and right if needed.
