Important note about the Infinity Army app: the rules and keywords for unit abilities are actually clickable and fully accessible through the app. It means you don’t even *need* to buy the full rule book (though it is nicer and slightly easier)

Infinity was created following a creators playing a modified RPG. They built the tabletop skirmish game from there and used their RPG as the base. Years later, the officially created a RPG that has numerous books with a ton of lore within - that goes down to the minute details such as brands of clothing and weapons and the stylistic traits of this brands, etc. The world of infinity is immense. And then there’s the core books, manga, and the website too

lol I find the rules of N4 are just as or less complex than 40k. People are just not used to another game. I've played board games that are more complex! You might want to get in touch with the guy that has the channel Infinity Gamer and do a video together talking about the game.
@markwatson8714
@markwatson8714 3 жыл бұрын
It depends. The basic rules for movement, shooting et al are no more complicated than they are in 40K, in fact most of the time it's just rolling the die (D20s in this case) and applying modifiers based on unit stats and things like cover, exactly as you would in 40K. Hacking can get a bit more convoluted (they have tried to simplify it in N4) but it's kind of like Warhammer Fantasy's magic system versus 40K's Psychic system (though like 40K, at least one faction has no hacking game for the most part, and for most factions how much or little you want to dip into it is entirely in the hands of the players). I think when people say it's more complex they're talking more about the decision space than the rules as such. If you're used to something more akin to 40K's traditional 'I go, you go' system with discreet phases for moving, shooting etc then ARO can be a bit of a shock. Not only are you dealing with much more flexibility in what actions you can take, but you also have the fact that your opponent could potentially react to that action with every unit in their army (and then of course realising that you can potentially fake out your opponent by moving this unit, baiting out the big guns and dodging to make things slightly safer for your next action, but then your opponent probably also realises this so may not take the bait, but then they know that you know that they know this so they're also likely trying to bluff with their reaction ....)
@Space_Ranger
@Space_Ranger 3 жыл бұрын
@@markwatson8714 Definitely give you that there a lot more interaction! Some are.. intimidated?...by it. It might have a bit too much freedom to do things too. Maybe 40k was a bad comparison since I haven't played it scifi skirmish games. I think the mechanics is simple but interaction is not. Also, some troops have a lot of skills

Ah, yes, the book bloat of 40k...or "why I stopped playing in 8e and started waiting for the Calvinball to stop". [MALIFAUX FLASHBACKS INTENSIFY] Seriously, at one point, to play my Tau, I needed: - Main book - Main Codex - Mont'Ka/Kau'Yon (Equivalent to the Psychic Awakening books) - Three Chapter Approved books - The Farsight Enclaves Sub-Faction Book - An FAQ for each of the above

The rules would change on a monthly basis, and it cost money to stay up to date. 9e was looking, comparatively, fairly stable...until I suddenly developed a massive stab wound in my back. (The reason I keep making fun of Malifaux...the transition between first and third editions was so absurdly chaotic that rules were changing HOURLY, with FAQs for the FAQs, and errata for the errata. Pair this with the only other player being a bad-faith gamer who was sitting there hitting refresh on the FAQs every phase...)

@@SlytherpuffHouse Right, I just didn't like the new direction for the sculpts quite as much, some of the ways the writing went, and...well, that other player I mentioned. He moved to California, and now nobody here plays Malifaux. That guy cheated like crazy, cheesed the rules, and generally wasn't a good person to play with. BUT...I could stack a deck of cards just poorly enough to have enough bad draws that I could plausibly not be cheating. Dude cheated three times a round, to the point that the store owner was calling him on it...but he'd have meltdowns when I'd occasionally have the cards I needed to not just die outright.

You forgot to mention some benefits to Infinity. Army size. You only need a fraction of the models to have a full army. That means less painting, and you can actually afford to buy multiple armies. Also, the models are gorgeous!!! No more 40 identical Marines and $45 HQs.

First off, I really appreciate your down-to-earth commentary! I got back into Battletech last year after a 20 year hiatus, and discovered your channel through that. I recently decided to give Infinity a go, since I’ve been hearing so many good things about the models. I was initially a little disappointed by the size, since I’m used to Battletech minis, but the amount of detail, and ease of building each model won me over! Each piece just fits together so nicely and there are way fewer mold lines to clean up than I expected. The game system seems really cool and so I’m looking forward to diving into that!

If you have a lot of experience with plastic models like from Warhammer or even just model kits in general, the pewter miniatures in Infinity are not that big of a step up (anecdotally speaking). But I will agree-- depending on where you live, it can be challenging to find other players, especially since Covid is still kind of a thing.

I'd go more with "less complicated" instead of less complex, but that's just me being fussy about specifics. Complicated just means needlessly complex to the point of confusion whereas complexity in itself is still graspable while intricate.

I'd say if you're building 9th ed 40K tables as per the recommended tournament scenery, it's not a ton of difference tbh. When you consider the infinity tables are all smaller, the density is definitely much higher but the amount probably isn't, by much.

Welcome to the fandom, I moved from warhammer to infinty last year, I did so for reasons like what you said, models costs but the most important is fun. I honestly find infinity much more fun to say, i don't lose my entire army to a beta strike horde of sanguinary guard or get shot off the table by imperial fist artillery. I can rock up to a game bring a fun list and still have a great time. That's something i lost with warhammer years ago.

I suspect Infinity would be much cheaper if you're coming in from 40K; assuming you already have scenery et al, you can just pick up a Jurisdictional Command box for whatever faction you're interested in (usually go for £40) and you've probably already got everything else you need to play (rules being free online; the selling point of the hardcopy is usually the lore book. Even the templates aren't that far from those used in 40K). Also it's not so much that they don't put crap in those box sets, the thing about Infinity is you don't really have crap to begin with; given most games you'll only have 8 - 12 models even your basic grunt usually brings something essential to the table. I have most of the Bakunin range at this point, yet pretty much every list I've ever made has always included at least one Moderator, the Bakunin equivalent of 'Imperial Guardsman', and not just to make up the points (in fact more often than not they're my lieutenant).

Well i played infinity from its 1st edition when the game first came out,well it hard to compare cost of the game when the models are mostly pewter instead of plastic,also in terms of buying adds,well they began with giving you the full rules for free on pdf's as also the army lists(stat lines for the models) before they started with the app. Also gameplay works alot in what i call 3d gaming and to sum it up,corvus belli make infinity a very good game and with the rules the game was at that point 20 years ahead in tabletop wargaming.

Ive really enjoyed this video and really happy to come across your channel. Ive just started in Infinity myself actually playing the game. I started with Operation Coldfront and have started beefing out both the factions based on great Infinity channels such as VaulSC and Infinity Gamer. I like 40K but my biggest issue is how much it changes and like what you very clearly showed one is forever chasing new books and rules and my experience unless you are totally invested in 40K collecting more than one army is suicidal on the wallet. Hell I hardly opened 8th edition and 8th edition codex before 9th edition dropped. My son likes the new Necrons and so I have gone nice and simple Necrons and Ultramarines and thats it. Now that being said I prefer Infinity in the tactical and strategy level, so much being free and that it stay stable and not changing its bloody version every five minutes. N3 was out for a long time. Im looking forward to catching up on your content and look forward to more on Infinity content.
