Infinity Train | Theory | Who Built the Train? | I Called It! (Maybe)

Okay! After drawing from my limited knowledge and doing a little research, I've come up with a possibly plausible but mildly ignorant theory for the train's origins!
I'll add that for all we know, Tulip was directly / indirectly responsible for the train's creation. It would be a little strange for technology to advance that much in her lifetime, unless she's just that smart, or discovered some form of reality-warping science that made the train possible ... and caused the apocalypse.

I think whoever made the train has some sort of connection to the cat. The cat has practically the same theme as the train, the cat has so much free reign, knowledge about the car and who’s in it, how things WORK and everything. We know this now, but One-One wasn’t always “One-One”, simply “One” and was much colder and more monotone speaking until Amelia overthrew him. That’s why the cat had been so confused when One-One was mentioned and his behavior. She knew “One” and how he USED to behave. But now it’s different. Honestly I think the cat holds far more answers to the secrets of the train than most people think. I don’t think she made it, but I do think she isn’t REALLY a denizen in the traditional sense. I think she KNEW whoever made the train, and they gave her a special role inside of it.

To be honest, even if the serie is saved and Owen Dennis can make all the season he wants, I don't think we'll ever know who created the train and why. The answer would always feel disappointing compared to what we could imagine

If your theory is correct, show us through a series that doesn't fully confirm the creation of the train until like the last episode of the season. Maybe even make a movie like they did for Adventure Time Distant Lands

Piecing together info from Book 2 and details on Book 5, I imagine the environment around the train is fake. We learn in B2 that the Tape Car is “the only car where the pocket dimension is projected on the outside.” This means that the train, rails, even the environment, its all a projection of the Tape Car. We also see in B2 that Lake is unable to travel past a certain distance. She is literally pulled toward the train, as if she’s hitting out-of-bounds in a video game. I think the Gohms were created by the train to stop people from reaching the out-of-bounds area. Why, I’m not certain, but it makes sense given the context.

I want to build on this theory. I think the train chooses specific times to come to those people. Okay I know you’re all like duh but what I’m talking about is like the train comes just before tragedy strikes the people it takes. Like maybe the train chose that specific crossroad in Tulip life because if the train didn’t come Tulip would have died. Or maybe idk...

A very good theory, though I wonder if it's not future humans.... but what if it's from an alien planet since it's said that time on the train passes the same as it does on Earth. So when Tulip gets her exit, she's coming back to Earth exactly how long she was on the train. Like if she was on the train for 3 months, she was missing from Earth for 3 months. Which might be possible since she does mention in episode 8 about how she's certain her game design camp is over. If it was humans who developed time travel why not just put the passengers back in their own time that was at the moment they disappeared? Also, in some interviews on Reddit, the creator has said that the train can also pick up passengers who were not involved. If the train appears before a group of three, the person it's there for can chose to get on or not, and the other people can come on board as well. So it's not really picking up specific people who can change the future if when it shows up, anyone could get on. I think an alien race that developed alongside humans made the train on another planet lightyears away. They failed because they didn't grow and improve as a race when life threw a curveball. Maybe some of those people caused it to become a wasteland in the first place, who took too many wrong paths in life and lead the world to disaster. But they looked and saw Earth, a young planet with people on it who had the same possibility to make the same accidents they did. So as a last act, they created the train and gave it a command to make as many biomes as it could to cater to any passenger who came on so be growing and adapting to change, they could prevent the fate that befell their planet. Because refusing to change or being blind to its necessity could lead to what happened. Think about it, Tulip saw she couldn't run from changes in her life but adapt and she got off the train, Jessie didn't know his ability to change too much was harmful because being a people pleaser doesn't help in the end and he got off the train when he refused to please the Apex and stand on his own, Grace did learn eventually that being so unable to change how you think could lead to a fate worse than death: she was able to admit she was wrong and could see what she thought was wrong, while Simon refused to believe he was wrong and paid the price. Just my own theory.

I have similiar thought. The continuity of time spend on train and return date does not exclude time travel possibility - tran could always jimp back the same, fixed amount of time. But I think it makes it less probable.

This theory is ingenious!!! Truly! it is! This theory makes all the right points and makes the most perfect sense. Since Aliens wouldn’t even know about human culture nor would extra-dimensional beings who don’t even live on the same plane of existence as us!! I’ve waited for a theory on the Trains creator FOR SO LONG and every theory I’ve watched has all suggested an otherworldly intervention yet has all left out some key points as to why only SPECIFIC PEOPLE get called to the Infinity Train. Oo i think i have an answer for this, i don't think.for a long time it was common for people to escape and if they did people probably assumes they went insane from being missing from a few months to a few years.

Allegedly in real life, there are more people who claim to be UFO abductees than sufficient statistics of mental illness can account for, but their stories aren't seriously considered for the most part (of course, a lot of them could be lying). Maybe it's the same for the train - there are stories, but it's just not accepted into the mainstream. Then again, no one on the train seems to go "I CAN'T BELIEVE THE CONSPIRACY NUTS WERE RIGHT!" Instead, they seem to have no frame of reference for it.

@@gremlinofart1504 Hmm ... I hadn't considered that. It is possible that it would have stopped him. Personally, I feel like it's assumed that history played out more or less the same way ours did. World War II is such a big event that removing it would probably change the present in ways we can't easily imagine, from technologies to culture ... or not. Who knows? Perhaps World War II is some kind of fixed point in history that was deemed too difficult to change. I find it unlikely that The Infinity Train took care of every major jerk and dictator in history, but again, who knows?

If this theory turns out to be the correct one, then Simon’s death might have helped the Train serve its purpose. I’m pretty sure he was on a fast track to becoming the next major fascist. The Train tried to fix Simon like all the other passengers. However, erasing him from the timeline probably works just as well.

I had the exact same theory! And it makes perfect sense. As the Train could do one or two things. Either A improve key individuals in history so that they'd make a MUCH better impact or B....remove them from the equation entirely as, with what we saw with Simon not everybody improves and or survives the train. Some may very well spend the rest of their lives there.

I probably disagree with the theory but thinking about it is really cool though,my reason for disagreeing with it is that I dont really get why people from the future would develop and make something that would save humanity into a well know phase in the fandom "therapy train" sure you could say that the train would save humanity for betterment of people if they did something ignorant like cause war,riots,vandalism and such but I dont think that would fix anything in the future because mostly anyone who comes in the train has bad attitudes and unpleasant mental health.The dimension and space part is probably the train itself something or someone that developed it.4:29 I dont really get this part since it could be just liminal or is just that way,again probably the train itself but who knows.This is really cool to think about though

Based on the creator's claim that the train exists in a parallel dimension, the theory might not be true (although it could still be from the future, visiting an isolated dimension nonetheless). However, the band may not _seem_ imperative to human survival, but they might be instrumental in a butterfly effect kind of way. For instance, their music may inspire someone else to make key decisions that will change the future, or give someone a pivotal idea. It may not even be their music. It could just be _them,_ influencing a chain of events in some small but meaningful way with their friendship.

Why would it be cancelled like that? I also had that theory some time ago, but why didnt the people use the environment manipulation orbs to live happy without the apocalypse? Maybe the train went online after humanity went extinctand the train, or former one wanted to prevent that, but another whacky theory I have is that the train needs the movement to create these pocket dimensions, as we see amelias campus car only working when it gets integrated into the train, I know this doesnt fit every scenario, for example when the train stops to release passengers, but its the best I could come up with right now. Maybe one was the one who built the train but forgot it when he split...He isnt human, so he could have survived and would literally have eternity to built stewerds, figure out the mechanics of the universe and time travel and fix the broken past.

At first, I thought something like that as well. I thought that maybe people from different times were abducted to alter the cause of history somehow and I mean if time travel is possible, you could easily meet people from other points in history, right? Well the creator of the show, Owen Dennis, has frequently explained that time on the train doesn't work differently and that you can't meet someone from like 80 years ago, which probably rules out time travel. Unless this time travel is somehow cyclical (parallel to our time) so like you can only abduct people from exactly say 500 years ago. I would probably say it's more likely that aliens just based the train and the cars on our technology to make more familiar

I think the wasteland’s… wastelandey state is because the train had to suck in the life of all of the earth around it in order to produce the orbs making the environnements of the cars. We can see dead trees. Maybe the trains also sucked all human life and stocked the imagination of humanity in the orbs of maybe even one-one.
