hi there! these videos are lifesaving-- for question 3e how did it go from (-m)^2 to m^2??
@tyrese-tureicuthill5312 жыл бұрын
You probably know this already but think of it like this: (-2)^2 is like -2 x -2 which gives rise to a positive number which in this case is 4. The same rule applies for just variables too. (-m)^2 is basically m^2 and since m isn't a number he just left it as m^2.

Hey infinity, Q3 (b) states that you need to find two equal roots, so wouldn't it be b^2 - 4ac > 0, not equal to 0, since we are trying to find 2 roots?
@neutronzz3543 Жыл бұрын
i know its a bit late but the question asks for what values of m will make the equation have 2 equal roots which is the same root so its just one root like (x-3)^2 so pretty much the discriminant is 0 when there is only one unique root.

Hi Infinity + 1, I recall from one of your other videos that factorising questions like 3D) could often leave out one of the two answers, however, like in this case, it is easier to factorise. So, have you got any tips to differentiate between the two, or is it just luck? Thanks in advance!
@zaddydynamite4 жыл бұрын
39:32 I dont get that? If the discriminant is less then 0 it means no real roots right? but it says the expression has to be greater then 0 so why is b2-4ac less then 0?
@many88224 жыл бұрын
I don't know if this is right... but I'm pretty sure that because the EXPRESSION is always greater than zero it means that the parabola will not touch the x-axis because if it does then it is not greater than zero anymore. This therefore means that the discrimant has to be less than zero in order for the parabola to not touch the x-axis.

@sarablack53414 жыл бұрын
also late but the roots of an equation occur when the equation = 0 so if the equation never equals zero, it won’t have any roots. If the discriminant (b^2-4ac) is positive then it has real roots but if the equation itself (ax^2+bx+c) is always positive, it will never equal zero and so there will be no roots. Hope that made sense
