It is the old addage...would you do that in your own home with people around you and smacks of entitlement and rudeness. Yes l am a Brit and hate this but seeing this all too often on short and long hauls. The worst is where the heathens put their bare feel on the wall in Row 1 In Short Haul. The BA crew who witnessed this were great in telling them, Italian passenger as Rome flight to LHR, to respect their fellow passengers and asked them to either put slippers on or their original footwear!

Man that IS an unpopular opinion. Those little food areas in the lounge are constantly putting out various different Turkish offerings. Everything is basically made within moments of you walking up, and its all very very good.
@Eagername

This used to be my favorite lounge in Europe and I still love the Manti stand and 2-3 slices of Pide, however it is going downhill over time. They have removed the liquor allegedly with the pretense of "Covid" and while I do not partake every time I fly, on a longer layover on my way back home a glass of Glenmorangie was one of those little differences that one remembers. More recently, they've replaced Coke products - I do not even drink Coca-Cola - going for ayran and water instead - but it somehow feels cheaper now. First world problems, I know, and still - they charge us €4000 for a business class flight and I have more freedom even in a small European airport lounge; feels wrong. Asian lounges > European lounges > North American lounges, the one in IST gradually sliding right on this list.

i've travelled as casual if not more at times as Noel does, and when flying business it has been "double checked" i'm in the right queue when dropping bags, so I get exactly what was meant there... Certain airlines are far more fun than others, and expect people to be themselves... some are far more casual than you expect too... others however... they just want me in a suit or something - not going to happen.

I flew Turkish Airlines last month from MIA>IST>PRG, then FCO>IST>MIA in Business class. It was a pretty good experience. Only thing is I didn’t listen to the warning in the 80’s movie Airplane, I ate the fish. Had an upset stomach for 4 days in Prague. Besides that, the FA’s and Chef were really nice. The food was amazing( besides the fish) and the seats were great. I did the Stop Over in Istanbul on the way back to te US. Got 3 nights in the Bosphorus Hilton for free. Affordable Business class with excellent service. IMO. 787 Dreamliner both long hauls. The flight from FCO to IST was good too. I think it was an A320. BC seats were really good and so was the food too. Had a nice 3 hour talk with my row mate from Uzbekistan over 4 glasses of red wine :)

This is something I’ve tried planning as I seriously wanna try it and just see what it does to my body, but it kinda falls apart after you’ve exhausted every hub for the big guys (SEA, ANC, PDX,SFO,LAX,PHX,DEN,SLC,DFW,IAH,MIA,JFK,EWR,CLT,IAD,ORD) you’re left to budget airlines and even then it’s like precarious. It’s something that can probably be done with once in a lifetime luck and a week of not leaving airports/ airport hotels. Still something I’d like to try.

Flew with Turkish twice to Havana, both times in economy. First time on A330 and it was great, felt almost like premium economy. Then they switched to B787 and it was terrible in terms of legroom, shoulder room and the shape of the seat: it had a winged headrest, but the wings wouldn't stay up to support the head. The flight attendant told me that that's the way they are made. However food and service were ok. both times and they were on time. The price was also reasonable. Besides this, Turkish is one of very few airlines where 2 suitcases are included in economy fare (at least on long haul), which is of vital importance if you are traveling to Cuba and you have family or friends there.

It's their seat. Whether they sneeze all over it, or lightly touch it with what looks like fairly clean feet. You just have to trust the ground crew to clean everything properly, and in that regard feet don't dirty up an area that much more than any other part of the body.

Just came off a business class flight(s) starting at JFK to Istanbul then onto KL with Turkish airlines. I think the comments Noel makes are fair, the A350 is a nice aircraft and the seats are good. I took the 777 from JFK to istanbul and had the A330 from KL to istanbul on the way up. Those interiors were much more dated feeling but with the important flat bed. The crew experience was not great for a premium cabin and i expected more really. Also, the lounge at Istanbul was packed both times i was there and i found the food selection a bit limited unless you really enjoy bread.

My widebody experience with TK has been on the B77W and B789 for long-haul. The 777 has the old 2-3-2 business class, which has no privacy but comfortable lie-flat sleep. The 787 has the same more private seats as the A350, I just don't like the panel that obstructs the window view. I got to fly the TK A359 short-haul from Istanbul to Tel Aviv. The 2-2 seating on the A21N is more modern and more comfortable than the old style, I got to experience that on an Istanbul - Addis Ababa hop. I agree with your view of the TK lounge. For me, it's always too crowded. The food is good but could use more variety. The overall onboard TK on-demand cuisine is tasty but needs more choice along the lines of Qatar's on-demand dining. And yes, cabin crews in TK are robotic. I had Star Alliance Gold status at the time, and it would be nice to have a more exclusive lounge with top-tier status.

Isn't it true though, that an average person's hands are a lot dirtier than their feet? I mean you use your hands to grab all sorts of things, while your feet are tucked in, shielded from the elements pretty much all day.

Noel, Great vid. Might be a stupid question, but what do you do between flights? Or do you just fly to these places and then travel back again the next day?
@noelphilips
@noelphilips 3 күн бұрын
It depends on my time between flights. If I have 12 hrs I might get a hotel room. If it is less than that (sometimes I fly 3 or 4 flights a day) I try to relax in the lounge. I can get something to eat & if I have enough time I can get a shower & a massage.

My experience with Turkish from Geneva to South Asian destinations is that it is often the shortest route and the best value for money flight. I personally like their whole package, flight crew, food and in flight entertainment. Their hub, Istanbul use to be a problem because of language problem and lack of space to sit. I hope with the new airport in Istanbul has improved their ground services issues and Human Resources issues for ground staff.

It’s hard to take in that one moment you are at the northernmost point of Norway in the Arctic Circle and then within a very short space of time you are in South Africa on the other side of the planet, quite incredible really

Hi Noel, nice video of an airline I’ve flown on. Did the London/Istanbul/Johannesburg route back in 2021, though obviously in Economy! 😂. One of the better ones to Joburg in my opinion, with Egyptian being the worst by far. Wondering if you’re planning to fly the new Norse service between Cape Town and London Gatwick, though given your previous experience with Norwegian/Norse, maybe not! 😅

I have flown Turkish often in the past nine years, always in economy. I flew BOS-IST-TRN most recently. The crew was nice and the food was decent. I was surprised to hear about the fire in the IGA Lounge. My wife and I spent quite a bit of time there this summer as we transited through IST on multiple occasions.

4:35 Hi Noel, your entertainment screen was under your right armrest (between seats), slightly smaller screen to that of A350 but similar content (no live cameras on old A321s unfortunately). Even Economy has screens, but standard behind the seat type. Surprised you did not correct it in your video, as you did with your eggs order (I knew it was coming when you mentioned that they didn’t bring the right order 😁) As a Platinum flier (Elite Plus) with Turkish, their business class product is one of the best out there, and nothing beats their price/value (same OSL-JNB journey would have costed at least double with other big carriers).

If you are reviewing an flight/airline I feel that you skipping a meal to sleep is a rather poor choice as you deprive the viewer of knowing what it is like to dine fully on the flight. Otherwise this no longer becomes a review.

Have flown Turkish in business on 777, 787 and A350. Seats more comfortable on 777 though open and less private. Seats on 787 and A350 ok but less comfortable. I have found Turkish fares about 20 % cheaper than most carriers for trans Atlantic flights with usually equal or better soft product. Istanbul somewhat chaotic to transfer but beats Heathrow,CDG or Frankfurt. Never had issue with seating at Istanbul lounge.
