Hi Noel, I was you co-passenger on the Delhi - Kullu flight (remember the chap trying to get you a seat with a clean window? 😄) been looking forward to that video since many a week, but I guess you gave it a miss due to the lack of visibility. Am glad the chopper flight back was better 🙂

Watching that gentleman who I think was going to marshal the black and white chopper and he took off running for his life towards the terminal, kinda looked like a scene from a movie!!! The scenery is absolutely stunning!!!! It's a no-brainer, I'd take the helicopter any day! I flew on helicopters during the VietNam War. Great Video Noel!!!

Yeah I caught that too lololol !! Now that would be your military-like ride to experience. You should have asked that pilot if he's for hire for a scenic tour down and back up the mountain, so you could do a comparison lolol

Did you fly for the army?
@gotb212 жыл бұрын
@@sidv4615 Nope...... Rode in the back of hueys and flew in the back seat of a Cobra. I almost went from the Air Force to CWO flying training at Ft Hood, to fly Low Observation Helicopters but I smartened up and realized the death toll of pilots flying them, so I stayed as a radio operator for the Air Force. I was at Song Be Airfield, FSB Buttons.

First time I've written a comment but for this video I just had to. What amazing scenery of India. All I've ever seen before is crowded streets, crazy traffic, poor housing, crowded trains. Those views were just amazing and I loved the accompanying music. Noel, you were like a kid in a candy store. Loved it. Thanks for getting this video. Was never aware of Pawanhans service to Kullu. Thought of only 2 options for getting from Chandigarh to Kullu - Alliance Air and the 8 hour drive. This is now on my bucket list.
@alphadeltaj45482 жыл бұрын
Yes, you’re quite right regarding the severe limitations based on take off weight at Kullu, even landing was heavily restricted due to the missed approach area being in high and very tight terrain. Not every pilots “cup of tea” so to speak! Taking off with 19 pax (in a 74 pax aircraft) was usually considered a great success, having their bags onboard was a bonus! :) summer conditions (high temps) and tailwinds would restrict the take off weight greatly.. the runway at Kullu is one way (land 34, take off 16) and 1000m in length, which isn’t that long really. Was always a pleasure to fly in and out off, the ground crew at Kullu were (and probably still are) fantastic.

Wow, the views of those sharply peaked mountains, with little roads snaking up and down - then Shimla where they evidently had to lop off the top of the mountain to fit in a runway, really bringing home just how vertical the country is! Great ride! 🙂

Noel I was watching your Nepal vlog wherein you took Tara Air to fly from Kathmandu to Lukla and as I write this, a tragic piece of news surfaced about a crash of a Tara Air 9 NAET twin-engine aircraft near Lamche river in Mustang, Nepal. You kept on saying in the vlog it is still the safest way to travel and now your words are reverberating in my ears. RIP to the 22 souls! A small trivia since you are a Briton: Shimla was made the summer capital of India in 1864 by the then Governor General, John Lawrence (winter capital was Calcutta). Later, Hardinge - II shifted the capital to Delhi in 1911

Hi Noel, your helicopter ride through the Indian Himalayas reminds me of your helicopter ride in your Nepal trip, one of your last trips before many restrictions were imposed; and I remember that your helicopter ride in Nepal was quite scary, due to strong winds, and the pilot having a hard time about which direction is which. But at least, this one was more uneventful and had more scenery than the Nepal trip on the helicopter, but it makes me feel like you should come back to Nepal sometime in the future, as there might be more stuff yet to explore! For now, enjoy the rest of your trip across India!

I've dealt with intense fear of flying all my life, and it wasn't until I found Mentour Pilot, 74Gear and Noel Phillips that I actually figured I could overcome it. I have watched their videos since 2020, but haven't been on a plane since before - But right now I feel excited for my next flight, which feels highly unusual. The early stuff on Mentour Pilot has helped me a lot, as he's explaining pretty much everything, and Noel's videos as well, considering how many times he's flown without any serious incidents.
