That’s not how AN works. An end stage Anorexia is when the disease has been present for 5-10 years. After 9 years of AN, only 1/3 of patients recover. She’s in the end stages of the disease, and her death is a fait accompli. Anorexia doesn’t mean that you drop dead in a week or two; it’s a progressive mental/physical disease that is many years in the making.

I’ve struggled with anorexia and bulimia for almost 8 years now. TBH, if I was Eugenia and getting all this attention because of my ED I would love it. It’s sick but true. It would just enable me.
@angelagenx6629
@angelagenx6629 7 ай бұрын
I completely agree, the comments and concerns are fuel to a person with an ED. Years ago I struggled with bulimia too, I was somewhat forced into getting help before I was too deep basically due to the feeling of guilt, but comments on my weight enabled me as well. Body checking was a big part of the disorder, measuring myself, trying on my clothes regularly to see if they were looser, the satisfaction of fitting into my mom’s old size 2 clothes was like some sort of milestone because I would hear her brag about when she was at her thinnest she was a size two (she was treated for anorexia when I was very young), she was also 5’0 tall and I am 5’7” so I felt like I surpassed her and was better than her. If you can’t guess she was a big source of my eating disorder, she made a lot of comments on what I’d eat. I’m sure Eugenia’s is big source for hers as well. Her videos are also just a bunch of body checking, everything she does is fuel to her disorder. I don’t watch her content, I do occasionally watch commentary about her hoping one day I hear she’s getting help. People say to stop watching her videos, and I do think that might be a wake up call for her, it’s not a solution. She’ll still get that fuel to keep going from her mother or others in her community. It doesn’t take much to enable her disorder. Negative comments like “you’re too skinny”, “you need to eat” etc are proof to her that what’s she’s doing is working in her mind. She’s the one that ultimately has to make the decision to get help and I don’t think that’s going to happen, but I hope she proves me wrong.

Many years ago I knew a young woman, a veterinarian who owned her own practice. She suffered from anorexia and bulemia. She was smart, a professional and loved by her family, a family that had struggled to help her. She experienced multiple crises, each of which left her mid-30’s body ever more depleted. She was one of those women when shown a photo of her within in a group, she couldn’t identify herself in any photo - she saw herself as fat, regardless of just how cadaverous she actually was. A matter of months later she was dead due to organ failure. Until the individual wholly accepts a reality reflective of her/his actual health state, this is one psychological problem that is almost impossible to overcome.

My last inpatient AN admission was at 34. 7 years ago. Statistics are statistics, you can recover. Those with AN are determined. They can do anything. I never saw myself as thin. The angles I photographed myself at mirrored Eugenias. Sometimes I saw a flicker of it. However weight restored, I look in horror. I don’t look like ‘me’ I was disturbingly ugly. The problem was fear. Absolute terror of feeling things again. I was in a hospital which made you stable. I hit a certain BMI and could Think again. It was weird. I kept a social life, a job, the normal. But I was numbing huge pain that I’m still dealing with. I can however now Scuba dive, mountain climb, I worked through Covid. Recovery is possible after decades. But. Social development needs help.

She is sick, but that doesn't excuse all the troublesome things she's done over the years. She's going to pass away without ever taking accountability.
@taylors445
@taylors445 8 ай бұрын
Exactly. She’s not as innocent as she likes to portray. She has first hand knowledge of the damage she does online. Her discord was full of underaged girls who were helping each other lose weight in order to look like her. Her own moderators were giving out diet advice. Plus some of them were predatory and harassing the young girls in the community. When people complained to Eugenia she pretty much said that she wouldn’t do anything about it. She said that the predator was nice to her so she didn’t see a reason to ban them. Only when she got enough public backlash did she even ban the creeps in her discord. A lot of people believe that these people who fetishize ED are paying her and the person harassing these girls was one of her biggest supporters. That’s why she didn’t want to get rid of them. Honestly I could believe it because she’s so willing to troll her audience and those who show concern. Her titles and her videos that she constantly body checks in are evidence enough. Not to mention all the “accidental” flashing. She’s a 29 year old women. Though she acts like she’s naive, we all know that’s not the case. Her old videos were much more vulgar and offensive. She only started this innocent act when people really started coming after her for promoting ED. I understand it is a complicated situation, especially with her mother. However she shouldn’t be treated like a baby when she’s definitely not as ignorant as she likes to behave. The mom pulls the same innocent act. I’m sure that’s were she learned it. The mom showed her true colors to Jaclyn Glenn and Eugenia’s old friend group when they had the intervention. She was screaming at them, cursed them out and tried to get them arrested on kidnapping charges. Not only that but she told Eugenia to run away from the police and mental health professionals. Clearly the mom has the ultimate say over Eugenia’s day to day life. I’m guessing the only control Eugenia has is her ED and her online presence. Maybe that’s why she acts out online. It doesn’t excuse her behavior but it sure would explain a lot.

Another thing that is so concerning is her relationships in her family her mother and brother don’t work so she is supporting them they are also overweight no I wouldn’t say they are terribly unhealthy in danger. But I fear she sees them and it gives her another reason to not gain weight. To her. They are everything she can’t stand. But the real sore spot is that she had no family to help her make the right decisions. The moment she gets healthy. She looses subs. She just doesn’t have any talents that can get millions of people to be interested in her. And her family knows this. So anyone that tries to help her is going to be torn down by not only her but her family as well. Now that is maddening. To choose money over your siblings, daughters life. Needs to be against the law. Putting people in danger that may cause her death.

Eugenia doesn't have that power to influence healthy folks into looking like her. It's vital to pinpoint the reason(s) your granddaughter (people in general) fell into it and address them. Was she bullied? Is her home unstable? Fights at home? Issues at home? Are the parents not having talks with her? Are they too busy working/stressed to talk to their kids and just have one on one time? Is she depressed? Anxious, ocd? Is she sad the guy she likes is into thin girls idk, Whatever, etc. It's very young people going through something mentally that get sucked into an unhealthy spiral and actually seek other unhealthy people. One thing about Anorexia Nervosa is that victims of the disease have a distorted view of themselves. When they look in the mirror they see themselves as overweight, even though everyone else sees them as underweight. Even in her videos she may see herself as overweight. It’s hard for us to understand, but its a well-known feature of the disease that people who suffer from it, really have an unrealistic image of themselves.

Glad you covered this story. The fact she's nearly 30 makes it more disturbing. Surprised you didnt bring up her arrested development and any theories you may have on why an adult woman wants to look, including dress, act and sound like an adolescent or teen and even a child, such as some kind of trauma. That is how she is connecting with that age group. She is playing dumb by acting like she doesn't know how she could influence them when she knows that she is acting like their age! So of course, when they watch her, they're not seeing a nearly thirty year old woman. They are seeing someone like themselves or their friends. At this point she can wear toddler clothes. My daughter was treated for an eating disorder. And at the hospital, we had family group therapy with all the parents, and kids and one exercise was to list bad influences and she was listed along with Thinspo and anorexic models and actresses as an influence, making them feel like they had to be that thin to be attractive. She may not outwardly try to encourage people to do that. But she covertly does it by flaunting her body in those outfits, making teen, preteen maybe even younger girls feel fat if they can't wear clothes that small a size.

This obviously stems from trauma! Eugenia and company moved to another state after a friend of Eugenia got her in mandatory treatment. She was looking better. I saw a video where Eugenia talks about wanting a hamburger and saying her mom told her, You can eat at any ol time, you have work to do now. Her mom plays into this, she exposed her having her try on a bathing suit at the store in front of everyone. Yes, Eugenia is "old enough" to know better but trauma and I'm sure lack of nutrition play a part in her making healthy choices. Honestly I think her mom bloomed, bl=gr, her to be this way. She is her mom's cash cow. Also, anyone see that mom is constantly overweight!?

It is difficult to imagine how her organs continue to function without their shutting down. For instance, the heart might eventually give up its pumping, as a result of a lack of food energy (heart infarction). I believe she wants to be especially loved and enjoys the attention. Calling her skinny is a gross understatement. She is quite literally to the point of intentional, long-term starvation. There's also a fetish aspect to this where men pay her for certain videos. Also, people criticize the "obese" every day. To say the reaction would be different for a fat person is ridiculous. There's not a single fat person on the Internet that hasn't been harassed even if they're not in lifestyle/weight/body positivity/makeup space.

Thank you for speaking truth. I almost spit out my tea when Dr. Grande recited the reasons people support this very sick individual and it included, something like (and I'm paraphrasing), 'obese people don't get this kind of scrutiny'. This is both ridiculous and laughable. I've been in the mental health field 20 years and was an investigator for protective services before that. I've seen thousands of individuals suffering or made to suffer because of being 'obese.' ---- I can count on two hands the number of folks I've seen suffering or made to suffer because they were thin. It's just ignorence at it's finest, plus, hate and bigotry toward the 'obese' is (in)arguably the last acceptable prejudice a person can openly display with impunity.

one aspect I think you've missed with Eugenia is that she also attracts fetishists and is very aware of this demographic as a streamer. She will constantly move around her room and pick up large objects like an empty box in the corner to consistently get donations. I don't watch her videos, wish her nothing but love and happiness, but she's very aware and constantly uses her camera to body check while streaming. She can live her life and this is how she's happy, as scary and concerning as it is for viewers. We can only hope that at some point if she decides she wants help that she accesses it. Otherwise blasting her content up is just supporting what people are so concerned for her about.

Thank you for treating Eugenia as an actual human being rather than a walking disease that certain "creators" have chosen as a concept to have her canceled as they continue to make money off of her misfortunes. There are two women who I believe care an do treat her with concern and kindness but most of them start out feigning concern but then quickly turn to jokes about her looks,her family, her voice, her living quarters- anything one can think of. They call her out for being naive but guess what, she's on tiktok for God's sake. Its a personal. And that persona is putting lots of naive bux in her pocket. And the more people talk about her, the more exposure and money she gets . And I've said this several times- people love to use the excuse that she's doing this on purpose knowing young girls will want to be like her. Maybe 10 years ago but showing a 12 or 23 year old one of her dancing videos would be akin to showing kids a video of a homeless 30 year old meth addict and the kids saying "hey, yeah! That's for me!" 10 years ago she was a stunning young lady, dressed cool and hanging with friends. But at aged 30 she appears as a frightened, lonely, emaciated woman playing Miss Havesham in her pink room desperately trying to freeze time. Any adolescent wanting to emulate her should already be well into therapy. If she doesn't want to talk about e.ds, there are plenty on tiktok and you tube that adore talking and talking about every crumb they eat every hour of every day and hey, if it helps them, then I say great for them. Whatever works is awesome. But just imagine for a moment that someone you care about or respect comes to you in confidence to let you know she found out she has end stage lung cancer. She smoked for years disregarding all the medical warnings against it. Let's also imagine that she has a successful KZbin channel making candles. Nothing deep or spiritually uplifting but she loves doing it. She never wanted the surgery or chemo/radiation. She is not married, has no children but she has a few good friends and her family that all wanted her to do everything she could to cure the cancer. They pressured until she caved She had the painful surgery and chemo that made her ill for over a year that chemo stopped. She went Into remission until just as she was feeling herself, she relapsed. She told no one and made the decision to not do any of the surgery, chemo, etc. She kept her channel going and announced that while she appreciated all the concern, she would not be talking about her illness online. She felt good, kept her candle channel and enjoyed 3 years of pain free life and passed quietly at home. Addictions have a much higher percentage of relapse than most anything. Maybe Eugenia is just tired of fighting such a losing battle and sick of people harping on it as if its the only quality she has. So please, just let her live how she sees fit the same way you would with a cancer patient. Being unkind never helps anything. Ever.

As a previous Goth from the 80s, I was interested in seeing how Goths of the 2000s were doing their make-up and comparing/contrasting it with how Goths of the 80s did theirs. She'd developed a gorgeous style with her eye makeup, and I found that compelling. However, I also had an ED in the 80s, and I could tell that she also had an ED. As she began wasting away before my eyes, I had to stop watching her. She didn't necessarily trigger me, but she did remind me of how I justified my weight loss back in those days and how I had affected friends and family around me who were worried about me. I check-in with her videos about once every three months or so now, to see if she is still alive. I know there is nothing that I say or anyone else says that will help her. You have to want to help yourself, and Eugenia is getting incentives to continue as she is doing by earning money from her disorder. As long as she has viewers and the money keeps rolling in, she will not seek help. It is like watching a train wreck in slow motion, and I cannot be a part of that anymore.

Agreed. I can’t understand why anyone subscribes to that train wreck channel. They can’t help her. She won’t accept it.

She's basically like a underweight equivalent of Nikocado Avocado.

I agree with what you've said in regards to her right to post on social media, but I disagree about there being no negative impacts to her online presence. I suffered from Anorexia some years back and every comment I received played a role in my downward spiral. Her being in the public eye means she gets thousands and thousands of comments daily, good and bad that drive her further into the arms of her illness. "You look like you're dying" and "You are beautiful" to most people, mean two different things. To her, they both mean success. Her live streams mean she can avoid eating (or even drinking water) for several hours at a time because the illness can't let the viewers see she ingests anything and at the same time, get the validation in needs from the inevitable comments. I believe she knows what she is doing. People with eating disorders can be extremely manipulative. She openly talked about her disorder after her stay in treatment, then went right back to saying things like "I don't want help" and opening mocking people who express concern for her. On top of that, the videos of her dancing, like the Selena one, caused a huge uproar and what was her response? Do it again with less clothing. She got called out many times for flashing the camera and continued to do that as well. The constant attention she gets its absolutely impacting her. There is no question she is very, very ill and to some degree, her deteriorating cognitive functioning, combined with the evil voice of her ED is compelling her to push the boundaries even more but she was made well aware of her impacts on her viewers long before it got this bad and she refused to dial it back. Could removing her from social media make it worse? Possibly. However, allowing it continue is also making it worse. The only difference is her young fans and the rest of the world get to see it. It is truly heart breaking and at this point, I fear death is in her near future. To anyone who is still reading, take care of yourselves and if you feel you're heading down the same road as Eugenia, seek help. I know first hand that it's scary and extremely difficult but we only get one shot at life and living it in that kind of misery is simply not worth it.

At this point, its on her. She has been given SEVERAL opportunities to get help and she just mocks us.

You took the words out of my mouth several times, Dr I appreciate you. The issues I have are the same as yours. If we start banning her... we have to ban muck bang and people who are obese. Then we start banning anyone with a different opinion than ours. It is ridiculous to think she is influencing anyone to be like her. As a matter of fact it probably does the opposite. Also, if she is happy with herself there is nothing that can be or should be done. As always thanks for the great content it is satisfyingly insightful and clear.
