Probably why the sherriff wants to tell the courthouse employees to not do that. You really shouldnt cry wolf at a courthouse using a panic button, those are used and generally assumed that something so bad has gone on that a traditional call to law enforcement wasnt an option.

@@ryvvyr7767 You forgot the risk of the situation escalating if a less trained cop interacted with the auditor. O, he was shot, well, he was "combative" and did not listen to orders. In EMS for 28 years. When we " push the panic button" and call for police aid, we routinely wait 10-40 minutes for 1-2 officers. Maybe we should tell them we have a " guy with a camera". And that's what we need everyone to remember is that we vote for the govt we get at the local level. Voting for a good sheriff or a good mayor who hires a good chief of police can what kind of law enforcement you get in your area. Our state legislators did a lot of these things but until they do our best bet for good law enforcement is the local voting booth and who we vote for can decide what kind of law enforcement officers we get. We have an issue with what happens when officers mess up but the best defense against that is to have law enforcement officers who don't mess up in the first place and that's decided by who leads them.

@@gpaccentertainment2918While I agree that audits require diligence and sometimes involve questioning unusual behaviors, it’s also important to recognize when actions might escalate rather than clarify. It seems likely that the man's initial statement about not causing trouble may not have been entirely truthful, especially considering his later argumentative behavior. If the individual in question appeared argumentative, it could impact the effectiveness of the audit process by creating unnecessary tension. Maintaining professionalism and constructive dialogue is key to ensuring audits proceed smoothly and achieve their intended goals of transparency and accountability.

@@randalthor2859 This is true. Personally, I wish more positive encounters would get posted. I am not sure how often they occur. We see it when things go sideways, but do we see negative interactions almost exclusively because they are most common, or because of the way KZbin algorithms and culture work? I hope it's just that people don't click on them so they seldom get posted. I've have only had one police encounter in which I was treated worse than I deserved. But I am not naive enough to think that one officer who lied under oath is the only bad cop, or that he represent every cop. The truth, I expect is somewhere in between. But the lack of transparency by police and the lack of consequences for their bad behavior must inevitably lead to increasing levels and frequency of illegal actions by police. A job with power and authority, but little oversight and accountability, both encourages people to do things the easy but illegal way, and also entices those seeking such freedom of action to apply.

I told the officers to call the city attorney because what they were about to do was unlawful and that their qualified immunity would not hold up because they have the opportunity to verify. “The vitality of civil and political institutions in our society depends on free discussion… it is only through free debate and free exchange of ideas that government remains responsive to the will of the people and peaceful change is effected. The right to speak freely and to promote diversity of ideas and programs is therefore one of the chief distinctions that sets us apart from totalitarian regimes. Accordingly a function of free speech under our system of government is to invite dispute. It may indeed best serve its high purpose when it induces a condition of unrest, creates dissatisfaction with conditions as they are, or even stirs people to anger. Speech is often provocative and challenging. It may strike at prejudices and preconceptions and have profound unsettling effects as it presses for acceptance of an idea… That is why freedom of speech, though not absolute… is nevertheless protected against censorship or punishment, unless shown likely to produce a clear and present danger of a serious substantive evil that rises FAR ABOVE public inconvenience, annoyance, or unrest.” ❤

I don't know that it's that weird. Pretend for a second that you haven't seen this video and you aren't primed for first amendment audit content. Imagine your sister or niece minding their own business at work when some guy comes in with a camera, bothers them with questions that have nothing to do with their work, and then becomes weirdly accusative of them closing the office door. The dude was being a weirdo. It's not unreasonable that a woman, stuck in an office with nowhere to go, might feel threatened in that situation. Not like, immediate danger fight or flight necessarily, but definitely anxious about what that dude might do next. Is he going to come back? Is he going to get loud or hurt me? Would you tell those girls, "Hey, ignore your gut feelings about threats and leave yourself vulnerable to weirdos because what they're doing in that moment is technically legal." I wouldn't. So yeah, in the situation in the video it was a bit overkill, but not outlandishly so.

If this was the other way around and he'd slightly closed the door in them, you'd be wetting your pants over how they escalated the situation.
