It is done to get fuel into the injectors,plus it is VERY cold outside,and it is a tractor,it dosen't require a mechanic to tell you that.

I bought a Dewalt Li-ion heat gun a few years back just for this purpose. I'm up North and it makes cold starts on the old stuff without glow plugs or heaters a ton easier.

When I worked in the Yukon Territory we had D-8 K CAT's. In the winter we'd build a fire under he crankcase and allow the motor to begin warming BEFORE we tried to start hem up. It seemed to be effective.

done that before , also used tiger torch with about 10ft of stove pipe with an elbow on the end heated the oil pan . use to like the old John Deere and Cats with a starting engine start the small engine let it run for about 2 to 10 min the big engine would start easy even when it was 40 - 50 below

Run a flex pipe from the exhaust to the intake. Smoky diesel and heat help to start quicker. Or a rag soaked with petrol around the intake breather. I had to use a torpedo heater under a canvas tarp on an old D-9 that skipped a track last year. Got stuck in the woods at -20 up here in Northern NY near the Canadian border. Then I had to do steer clutches on it a week later in the same cold, not fun. We built a tent around the machine and kept warm with the torpedo heater, good for heating the coffee though, lol.

At 02:07: Can someone please tell the lightning bulb that he sits on a diesel engine? Pumping the pedal is useless, the engine needs heat in the combustion chamber. And a gasoline engine with a carburetor would already be hopelessly flooded.

Old worn out diesels can be hard to start in the cold. But why go through that much trouble? Get some starting ether and put antifreeze in the engine so you sleep calm in the cold nights!

Ether is alright for indirect injection diesels of old but be very careful using it on modern direct injection engines,a gas powered blow lamp around the air intake or inlet manifold will do the job easily,I’ve used one of the electric heat guns when a mains outlet was available.

Sono del parere che il modo più pratico é quello di togliere il liquido refrigerante (acqua o antigelo) al termine dei lavori. Prima di avviare, si scalda il liquido intorno ai 60° centigradi e si versa - inizialmente in piccole quantità - nel radiatore. Avviamento garantito senza danni al motore Sembra un metodo complicato, ma organizzandosi è più semplice di quanto si creda.

Everybody who has atleast 1 braincell can keep it running. Think man,think! This comment comes from someone who was born in Bucharest,at still lives in it. I've seen WAYYY to many Universals in rusted conditions run great! Same goes for the Gloria (Glory in romanian) C14 harvester,those aren't in the best shape this days,but some run very well!

Where im from are farmers though, and many complained about their reliability, having to fix them all the time instead of just having a Massey or Case or such and getting home on time to eat and sleep.... Min 3:20 vreau si eu o explicație logica ,de ce tot frecați pedala la motorul diesel cu pompe rotative? ce așteptări aveți sa porneasca mai repede? Argumentați,doar la motoarele benzina pe carburator se da cateva pedale inainte ca sa arunce benzina in carburator ,la DIESEL nu are nici un sens,ba din contra iti va porni mai greu caci nu îi lași acceleratia la o anumita turatie si tot o variezi va fi greu sa creasca presiunea in injectoare,"meseriașilor

Stop pumping that accelerator on that diesel it achieves absolutely nothing,floor the accelerator and keep it there to give the engine full fuel until it fires up and then leave it to fast idle until it warms up a little,a flame in the inlet manifold will almost always fire up a diesel in cold weather.
