New Zealand Law states that:
All seals, sea lions, dolphins and whales are protected under the Marine Mammals Protection Act 1978. It’s an offence to harass, disturb, injure or kill marine mammals.
Anyone charged with harassing, disturb, injuring or killing a marine mammal faces a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment or a fine to maximum of $250,000.
We ask that Ingrid Visser be held accountable for her harassing of wild whales and dolphins in New Zealand.

All I see is two intelligent beings interacting with one another. The orca is perfectly capable to swim away if they wanted. It would be harassment if the boat crew decided to chase the orca.

First flaw: the dramatic music to try to make it seem as if she's doing something horrible, when she CLEARLY isn't. Second flaw: not doing your research first before posting this ignorant video. Third flaw: misinterpreting innocent interaction with "harassment." Why isn't it harassment? Because ALL she's doing is petting the orca and showing it affection. ALL she's doing is risking her own life (not the orca's because - let's face it, this orca could EASILY kill her if it wanted to) to touch an animal she's passionate about. To RISK your life in the wild to interact with these wonderful animals means A LOT MORE than paying a SeaWorld ticket to watch them up-close IN CAPTIVITY where they SUFFER.

first of all she probably knows this orca personally because i don't think she'd be putting her hand in there and be trying to kiss the whale. and what is happening is hardly harrassment. it would be harassment if she was driving around chasing after it. i think alot of this laws about harassment is a good rule of thumb but if the human can't harm the ocra, then no harm done. they are just as curious about us as we are of them obviously, and in that case it doesn't look like to harassment to me if they are just as interested and excited about interacting with human.

This is funny... seaworlds PR Page. The law sited at the beginning incriminates seaworld a lot more then it does her. And, she's a scientist who also happens to study and love a smart and friendly animal who are known to seek out boats and engage humans in an interaction. But, if she's such a criminal for this act and if that laws in place, with such overwhelming video evidence and your clear and overwhelming love for the whales, why don't you engage her in prosecution proceedings and then, she will be locked up and no longer able to wreck such devastating havoc on these poor innocent animals who are clearly being traumatized, abused, harassed, tortured, and violated in this haneous and evil act that this mad woman carried out!!!

They SHOULD NOT be encouraged to come up to people or boats. Collisions with boats and being severely injured by propellers is a common enough issue in cetaceans without this 'scientist' actively encouraging it. She is teaching his whale that coming up to people and boats is a positive experience, next time he decides to come up to a boat he might meet the business end of a boat propeller. She is actively endangering these whales.

What a vicious woman! Like I said, she documented her crime so, under the law cited in the opening, lock her up! Perhaps you could be the one to send the video to New Zealand's prosecutors... then, she can sit next to the guy who dug up the T-Rex and (originally) received 333 years in prison....

I’m undecided on the issue of cetacean captivity (I am a supporter of most zoos and aquariums though because I know they do a lot of good) but this video is absolutely not helping the pro-cap side of the argument. I’ve seen the original video this clip comes from (it is the oldest video on Dr. Visser’s KZbin channel, if you’re interested) and the interaction was much shorter, this video looped it to make it look longer. This video also uses corny music to drown out the sound of her saying hi to the animal, not teasing it or yelling at it. The boat’s motor appeared to be off as the boat was stationary, so there wasn’t any risk of the orca getting hurt by it, and the orca swam up to the boat of its own accord (although she did encourage it). The Marine Mammal Protection Act wouldn’t punish you for such a short, mutually peaceful, and respectful interaction. Orcas are naturally very inquisitive and intelligent beings, so it’s not a stretch to say that the orca was probably wondering about what this unexpected human in its environment was doing and wanted to take a better look out of curiosity rather than feeling harassed or threatened. Plus, she wasn’t making her research invalid, as your accompanying article on your website claimed, because she wasn’t using this interaction for research, she was just on a boat observing the orcas as usual. If you want to counter Dr. Visser’s opinions on orcas in captivity, use actual scientific evidence to make your claim, not edited slander. (to be fair, there is a lot of pseudoscience on the anti-cap side as well, the whole debate is very corrupted, but Dr. Visser seems to be a widely respected expert on New Zealand’s wild killer whales)

+Jo Orca Whisperer Those orcas are use to her and have interacted with her when she has free dived with them and filmed them hunting and frolicking, but if you haven't seen any of her documentaries, followed her research on orcas, how would you know? She is not harassing them. Videos like this are from people, organizations, that profit from orcas, like sea world. I myself fully support her and what she's doing. It's called research. If only some how she could teach these magnificent creatures to not trust and avoid humans at all cost, sooner or later, it will be their demise if they don't.

They wernt used to people when they were snatched from the sea and their family's. Then separated. Stuck in a tiny tank and forced to tricks every day for the rest of their lives. Also sure tillikum will never be used to a human masturbating him to get his sperm to force breed the females! It dosent take a scientist to see sea world are wrong on every level and should never ever have taken these animals for YOUR pleasure in the first place! Idiot

+Jack McSchlong Here we go with assuming again. It doesn't matter if the whales are used to her. She is harrassing them. Instead of looking at them she's playing with the orca like its a pet. That's not research thats playtime. In Australia's shark bay when the dolphins come up to humans. You are told not to initiate contact. That's what she's doing, intiating contact. It doesn't matter if she's free dived with them. And anyways its humans that get these animals in trouble anyways so its probably a good idea to not trust us.

She does research to save the orcas, Places like Sea World are just for profit, and the animals suffer. Very small minded people like you, do not see the difference. Maybe you should try to do a little research on how they "catch" an orca, your ignorance is astounding, hopefully you actually know how to read. If not, please have a child to read this to you, there's pictures, it might help you......but I'm doubting it. Jack McSchlong Come on man act like a grown up. Stop with all the lame jokes. And have a grown up conversation. You're a grown man. (I guess you are anyways). The majority of Ingrid Visser work is rescuing stranded orcas and swimming with them. Btw, the majority of orcas at SeaWorld were brought over from other parks because they couldn't care for them. SeaWorld hasn't collected orcas from the wild in 35 years "SeaWorld is just for profit." Clearly you need to do your research. SeaWorld has rescued, rehabilitated and released 27,000 animals. They are as of right now helping out the sea lion crisis. They rescued, rehabilitated, and released a grey whale calf. They are also right now helping sharks suffering from "finning". They pledged 11 million dollars for animal conservation this year. Has Ingrid Visser done any of that?
