In this video, I have described the anatomy of the inguinal canal. The boundaries and contents of the inguinal canal are discussed very briefly.
The anterior wall of the inguinal canal is formed by skin, superficial fascia, and external oblique aponeurosis in its whole extent and by internal oblique muscle in its lateral one-third. The posterior wall of the inguinal canal is formed by fascia transversalis extraperitoneal connective tissue and parietal peritoneum, and medially this wall is strengthened by conjoint tendon and reflected part of the inguinal ligament. The roof is formed by arched fibers of the internal oblique muscle and transversus abdominas muscle. The floor is formed by the inguinal ligament, iliopubic tract, and lacunar ligament.
The contents of the inguinal canal are the spermatic cord in males, the round ligament of the uterus in females, ilioinguinal nerve in both.
I have defined subinguinal space. iliopubic tract, myopectineal orifice, lacunar ligament, pectineal ligament, and reflected part of the inguinal ligament.
