Congratulations on completing Disneycember! I think a reason why we come back to Disney in some cases is either the characters, stories of some of the films, the songs or maybe wanting to feel joy or warmth when watching them.

Even though Disney is very problematic with topics of racism, antisemitism, ageism, misogyny, fatphobia, and homophobia, I do enjoy watching some of the movies and shows they created from my childhood because of nostalgia. It's okay to like a show and movie and critique it for having issues, because we want better representation pertaining to people of color, LGBT+, and people with disabilities and disorders, and we want to see more stories pertaining to people of color, especially the ones that don't get much attention like indigenous people, and their stories being told in a positive light. Support independent creators who do be giving us what we want and respect and appreciation the amazing work they put on to their shows, and respect and listen to marginalized groups, especially Jewish and indigenous people to educate yourselves, unlearn your ignorance and not listen and agree to ignorant bigots and have your brain, back-bone, and constructive opinion. I think one of the biggest reasons we keep going back to Disney despite all its problems as a company is that they pretty much dominate the film industry nowadays. That and we love the nostalgia. Anyway congratulations on finishing your Disneycember video series. :)

I started boycotting Disney because when I used to go to Best Buy for DVDs, Disney ones always were at least $2 more than any other DVD except The Criterion Collection. Later on, I found out that they were responsible for all those extra laws allowing them to extend their copyrights beyond 27 years, so their stuff is never in the public domain. Screw them!

I remember always kinda being into Disney ever since day 1 but I got really into it around middle school. Basically, in 8th grade we had our final field trip be a trip to Disneyland and at the time I had only ever ridden a few specific rides and I didn’t want to ride any other ride mostly because I was scared of change (can’t believe it took me and my family so long to figure out that I was autistic like the signs were everywhere). I was dreading to go on the trip because I didn’t want to be made fun of for not wanting to go on the “big kid rides”. So before the trip I decided to watch a bunch of pov ride videos so I could get an idea on what the rides were gonna be like. After watching a bunch of those I then started getting recommended videos like disney park facts and Disney movie Easter eggs etc etc. Then I went on the field trip and had such a blast and found a lot of new favorite attractions. Also Big hero 6 had just come out around that time and I also was obsessed with that. Then around late high school/ early college I started becoming more conscious about how problematic Disney was and is and I started trying to push down my obsession, but no matter how hard I tried I always came back to Disney. Sorry for the ramble but what i wanted to say was I think that you can be a fan of something while acknowledging and calling out the problematic aspects of that thing. Never be afraid to criticize your faves.

Disneycember has been so fun!! Aaaa!!! Funny you bring up monster high too because I also had mh help me during one of the darkest times of my life; but disney as well! I remember when Frozen came out originally I fell in love with it so much since Elsa was (and still is) a character I deeply relate to since it feels like someone threw a mirror to my face; I had started therapy back then and my therapist even used frozen in some sessions to help me process certain emotions. My family also went to disney world a lot while i was growing up and despite my familys issues I always felt good being in disney and it was something to look forward to. Im so sorry you went through so much too, its so hard. School sucks so hard and I dont miss being stuck there. Disney sucks ass as a corporation all the way, but their movies and media has been made by so many people under that company and means so many different things to all of us, its hard to just push it aside

Listening to you talk about your first exposures to Disney reminded me of my own and I hope you dont mind me sharing ^^ I was raised on the original Disney Channel (and kids edutainment in general) and for whatever reason I used to be completely averse to their more popular films, from the animated classics to the live-action musicals. (I remember initially hating Finding Nemo because Bruce scared the hell outta me and I didn't stick around to find out he's a nice guy despite his appearance) I don't remember what made me change my mind but it was probably a blend of exploring non-disney animation by myself and the social bonding potential. I was never the biggest fan of High School Musical but I knew enough to hold conversations with girls at my school who were fans. Lastly I wanna say congrats on finishing your Disneycember! A video a day for nearly a month sounds like a real challenge, and I'm very proud of you!

Disney is now 100 Years Old Officially. It is basically over 95% of everyone’s childhood or their kids/grandkids childhood. Nostalgia makes everything seem like rose colored glasses and even though we know Disney is hella problematic, it is still part of our upbringing. As Adults we see problems now that we can’t ignore and we have to call Disney out for it and make them do better but it hurts us because it’s like attacking our own selves in the process.

That's sometimes what I think because there were some times I wanted to rage quit the fandom due to how many people talk crap about the remakes and sometimes feel like they're acting delusional for thinking the originals can do no wrong. Opinions or not, sometimes I feel like this kind of made people look like stuck up elitists who are putting something too high on a pedestal. And sometimes feel out of touch on how why they keep being looked down upon by the general public as like stuck up nerds with arrested development. Even though it's not always the case, that's how everyone that's not a fanatic of media sees us as. And I'm feeling like "Why bother?" Nothing is going to change the public's opinions, but then again nothing really feels groundbreaking anymore unless it's trying to pander to millennial SJWs or forcing in toxic political views in stuff that's meant for escapism.
