Inisheer - Tin Whistle & Guitar

This is a recording I made of the lovely tune 'Inisheer' (also known as 'Inis Oirr'). I have set the music to a slideshow of images of the Island of Inisheer.

Donegal Town is currently my favourite part of Ireland. Lovely people, and played a nice wee pub session there once. The Reel Inn was the place, as far as I recall 🙂☘️

Thomas Walsh wrote this tune...I think he is from Dublin

Very nicely played. Yes, the tune was inspired by the island; Thomas Walsh, the Dublin accordionist, wrote it after a visit there in the late 1970s as I remember.

Proud to say... I have been there. On the back of a tractor, it is one of my favourite memories. Also when the Harp was played at the oceans edge ( by the boat ) i shall never forget, it made me proud of my long ago heritage.

Right Antony. He wrote it as a song in Irish. It speaks of the beauty of the island, the fishermen and their stories. It wasn't until the mid-1970's I believe that the island got electricity. It is an enchanting place today and must have been even more enchanting back I the day before the modern world began changing the old ways. Thomas has a nice band called Turloch playing around Dublin.

May I ask which whistle you use here? I have several and wish to play in tune but it seems all my Ds are either sharp or flat. I probably need to boil the glue out of one to adjust the head lol but maybe I could buy the one;like you've used here?

It’s just a cheap ‘generation’ brand, but a nickel version instead of the usual brass. I’ve used boiled water to remove the glue on all of my whistles for fine tuning.
