Bunta's ability to race is like the equvalent to Toshiya "God Arm" Joshima from Team Purple Shadow. So in a sense that's the closet Takumi ever to race against his dad in an actual race. And remember Takumi did overtake Toshiya at some point, but Toshiya later did outran him Takumi to the point broke his suspension in a desperate attempt to keep up with the old man incredible "time attack run". If Toshiya hasn't been exhausted and puke, he would have beaten Takumi in 4th stage.
