My dad was a technical service rep. for bulk molding compounds for Cyanamid, later sold to Rohm, back in the 70s and 80s. Interesting to see some of what he was involved in doing back in the day.

couple of questions; 1. You pull the injector back with each shot, why not leave it against the mold? 2. Where do you establish a two hit on the ejector pin cycle? Great video series! - Kevin
@DragonflyEngineering Жыл бұрын
A few resons for 1, sometime the nozzle of the injection unit cools off when in contact with colder mold, it also breaks a plastic stringer that can follow the sprue out of the mold, it also helps with excess drool, sometime you want to break away from the sprue so a disk of plastic doesn't form a hole the sprue in place. 2, the multi eject is called different things in dif machines, but in the ejector page of you controller you can set the number of eject cycles, usually with delays etc, the Hitian calles it "vibrate" mode. Thanks for watching!

Very helpful video but i have some concerns: during automatic mold, the injection unit keeps moving back and forth every cycle, why dont you keep it in the advance position always? and if it keeps repeating that does it have any bad effect to the nozzle or sprue bushing of the mold?

What's the temperature of the mold?
@cornoadmin4 жыл бұрын
Why do you have to be so careful about squareness and perfect dimensions when you are just going to clamp the mold between those heat isolation pads that have to be at least a little bit conformable?
@DragonflyEngineering4 жыл бұрын
the thermal isolators are pretty hard woven glass and epoxy, so they dont squish much. The big concern is the 6inch width of the mold, that length adds up and the lever action tipples the out of square that the machine tie rods see, so the rod seals will fail sooner from the tie rods in the machine being bent off axis. Thanks for watching
@dwaynesykes69410 ай бұрын
@@DragonflyEngineering stick one of those thermal isolators on the surface plate and check it. I suspect they're off by more than a thou over the same distance. I understand and fully support minimizing misalignment whenever and wherever possible, so I'm not criticizing the work on the mold like the original commenter, but instead wondering if there are more precise thermal isolation options? Perhaps phenolic composite (e.g. Garolite CE) checked/machined for flatness?

can you recommend any books to learn how to run a machine like this? I am working on some molds for small plastic parts, having trouble finding shops willing to run them, and looking into getting a small machine in my shop to run my parts. I wouldn't even know where to start once I get the machine though...
@DragonflyEngineering4 жыл бұрын
I don't' know of any particular books,, but I'm sure amazon has a bunch. You may want a morgen press to start depending on your numbers. If you buy a press new, usually you get a day or 2 of onsite free training and most places have a class room at their service center. Haitan or Boy will hook you up with training. For me, I started with a Morgen press, then purchased a used machine and dove in with a lot of head scratching at first.. good luck!

There is also a variety of online training sources for beginner Injection Molding Process Technicians. Routsis and Paulson are two I know of off the top of my head if you are looking for a more in depth training.
@thomasbraeking62253 жыл бұрын
Best bet would be to make the acquaintance of one of us old molding technicians in your area. Injection Molding is in that fuzzy area between Art and Science. The Science tells what temps and pressures SHOULD give a decent part. The Art is where every mold/machine combination has its own quirks.

Worked around farms in Australia for the last 3 years, I was so annoyed because they use a combination of imperial and metric, I hate imperial, but what I hate more is working on a US machine where they used metric bolts when they replaced shit. Always have to check the tread. They even used a 3th system, forgot the name.

Macchina impostata malissimo.
