Hi Folks,
This week we load and run the white ABS ring molds that we have been making over the last few Episodes..
Also, we use the "Sprue Wacker" on this mold; you can see how it was made in this episode:
• SPRUE WACKER for plast...
Enjoy!

I worked for over 15 years in the plastics molding department at GE back in the 80’s and 90’s. I was the setup and can’t count the number of installs in did during that time. We did injection and thermoset molding. This video brought back memories from back in the day. Some of the equipment was from the 1940’s while most of our equipment was state of the art, modern presses. It was nice to see the advancements in equipment that have been made since our factory closed.

Good videos . I was a Machine setter before, and I do have some comments and points to add. 1.) I suggest you add a leveling tool to ensure the mold is properly leveled before closing the mold. because you might close it unlevelled. 2.) I Don't remove the chain block support even though you have fully clamped on the fixed side. There are times that a mold setter have not fully tightened the brackets on one side and the mold droops or worst fall. I removed it when both A&B sides are bolted on the platen. If one of the A/B loose support or fall from plates, it will hang to the other half. 3.) Remember to put hard hats when moving molds overhead. sometimes eyebolts clips breakout or not fully locked.

I noticed you said you don't really have to run water through the molds.. does this cause zebra striping for you or ghalling of the tool? Having them watered can help you choose where you want the parts to stay as well and help with the flow of the plastic and the cooling process to be shorter. What do I know, I'm just a mold setter.
@DragonflyEngineering
@DragonflyEngineering Жыл бұрын
That is true for Aluminum molds, that conduct heat 4 time better then steel. For steel molds, I do run water, or oil to remove hot spots in cores, and heat the mold up. Haven't had much problem with zebra striping. Thanks for watching!

Why wouldn’t you just bolt the insulator plates to the mold. I would be afraid that that ejector rod would snap when running. Then finally why wouldn’t you torque those toe clamps in.
@DragonflyEngineering
@DragonflyEngineering 9 ай бұрын
I have some that are oversized insultators to bolt to the molding machine, but I have so many variations of molds, that I usually block mounting holes, or need the ones that bolt the insulator, so I keep them simple. I save $ by not making insulators for all the molds. I also have universal shim plates to get the 2 mold stacks the same height. Yes, as i mentioned I get away with the 1/2 inch rod for light force eject molds. I have 1.5" dia ejector rods that came with the machine too. finally, i don't have a torque wrench :( But I should get one. Thanks for watching!
