The downstream injection is a means of applying chemicals with the use of a pressure washer. It introduces chemicals into the system after the pump, so no chemical is running through the pressure washer pump itself.

I’ll show you how to speed up your work on power washing to use a bypass injector kit.
The downstream injector works by maintaining a certain PSI on the pump side of the injector by means of an orifice installed into the injector body. The pressure washing industry rates injectors by the GPM of the pressure washing system.
In the test, we use a popular underrated downstream injector on the machine that you will see. This downstream injector rated 3 to 5 gallons per minute and it has 2.1 orifices on it. A lot of people use it for washing houses because it allows them to draw higher concentration into their line due to the amount of pressure that’s created inside of this downstream injector.
The problem is that the injector restricts water flow during the rinsing stage. Using a Bypass Injector Kit allows the flow to go around the downstream injector. This means when it turns on, it follows around the downstream injector and keeps ongoing. The Injector Bypass allows the water to flow with less restriction.
This injector is called a Bypass kit because you can close the ball valve and bypass the chemical injector when you don't need it. This allows you to quickly switch between cleaning with chemicals and cleaning with only water.
Chemical injector bypass kit allows full flow around the chemical injector for rinsing or surface cleaning. This Chemical Injector Bypass Kit runs like a regular downstream injector. It is called a Bypass kit because you can close the ball valve and bypass the chemical injector when you don't need it.

Thanks for the video. I would have liked to have seen the test done with high pressure tips and gauge so we could see the pressure increase with the bypass open both with the correct size injector (2.3 mm) and the 3 to 5 GPM (2.1mm) undersize injector.

Why not move the injector to the "loop", then you'll have an unimpeded flow, thru the ball valve.

Thanks for vid! I have similar machine. Say, is it ok to run the machine without any tips like you did in your water volume gpm test? (Does the pump need a certain amount of backpressure?) So can I rinse with a ball valve , without a wand and tip? Also, if you did have a wand and tip for your gpm test, would that have made a restriction to maybe make the test come out to 8 gpm instead of 9?

It doesn't hurt to run it without a tip. Tip size will effect the GPM and PSI. So it is important to use a nozzle chart to find the right size the achieve the desired PSI and rated GPM

Wouldn't a quick connection do the same job just unclip the injector and clip the hose back in? Granted its not a quick a turning a valve but would be cheaper option?

Yes, it would but that time savings is the point of using the bypass

@@Powerwash yeah I was thinking only reason for leaving injection in was for speed. I've just got a water powered mixing stem well tap or 12v pump can go before the SH so all the pump is pumping is water to the T like unit that doesn't matter if 1gpm or 20gpm is flowing through it. Will mix perfectly all the time fully adjustable I've some more practicing to do with it but you guys over pond will love it am sure cheap ish well about the same as a softwash mixing system and it's SH safe also they sell 1 that's hydrofluoric safe 😊 perfect mixing small light and by looks of things very well made I will be doing a video about how it works fairly soon come on over next week or so 👌

How do we know the engine didn't slow down towards the end since it was running on fumes? I get the concept but not totally sold. Maybe try another video, injector first then followed by bypass?

There’s absolutely no noticeable difference that will save you any time, the bypass is only good for rinsing your down streamer if you have a shut off valve on it. I think it rinses itself anyways when not drawing chem but not 100% on that.

You most likely won't notice it. That is why we did the demonstration. But it does make a difference and will save time. Thought it may be small it will add up in the long run. If you find ways to continually make small improvements it will pay big benefits over time. This is one of those small improvements.

2.1 is is the size of the downstream injector orifice. It has nothing to do with mix ratio.

I have a question if anyone can answer. I'm not sure if I'm right, or severely math-challenged. I'm using straight 10% SH (No dilution) My machine is pulling 7:1 This means I'm spraying 1.25% SH? It's been a long day. If my mix is 50/50, I'm spraying .63% SH? We hope to be up & running within a month. Here in Central Florida.

3/4 or 1/2 gallon is not going to make a big difference the only time I shut the injector off as if I'm doing flatwork

Mike is Right, it makes a difference, 1/2 - 3/4 gallon doesnt sound like much but keep in mind that test was based on 1 minute. Take your average rinse time and then factor in the loss of flow. Great video Mike. Of course removing the injector for rinsing is the best method but it takes time to shut down, remove injector, and restart. I added a ball valve on my jump hose right before the hose reel. Pump, 8 foot Jump Hose, ball valve, injector, hose reel. Instead of switching to bypass, we close ball valve, remove injector, open valve and continue spraying. Kind of annoying though when u want to soap again. I feel like I get a lot more flow with it removed vs. bypass. Will do a similar test tomorrow to see. Thank u for the videos Mike. www.KtPowerWashing.com

@@ktpowerwashing the bypass works great. One thing you need to do is switch the location of the ball valve and the injector. This way you get a straight line of flow when rinsing or using a Surface Cleaner versus the water going around the loop in the bypass setup.

Incorrect. You will speed up cleaning time by about 9%. For every 10 hours you will get an hour saved. If you do 40 hours a week thats 4 hours. If you do 52 weeks of work in a year full time thats 208 hours. Which is 5.2 weeks of work. Damn near a month and a half you saved to be more productive. That's worth $100 to me
