I can’t believe that she thought a Daruma doll isn’t japanese
@bustanutt27358 ай бұрын
Isn’t the doll like a “new years resolution” ? I made some in my ceramic class and did some research on it. But idk if what the dude was saying was his own interpretation of the doll or if there was more info I missed about it ?? Regardless she’s kinda ridiculous for not doing her research. Maybe she could’ve added a couple more around it rather than focusing on the background too much
@SephoneNorth8 ай бұрын
It can be, but I’ve always seen it used as a reminder of goals. You paint one eye at the beginning of the goal and then when you accomplish that goal, you paint in the second eye. As you struggle with the challenge, you push the daruma and it doesn’t fall down because it’s weighted in the bottom so it rocks back up reminding you to keep going. You can trip you can struggle but you don’t fall down. That’s the point of the doll.

I know the Amaterasu tattoo is the sun goddess and they made her look like she’s out at night. I’ve never understood this elimination because artistically the thumbs on the Cleen’s look vague like it could be front or back but I can tell the image is Hotei. I can’t tell from this tattoo it’s Amaterasu; I’d probably guess Tsukuyomi.

I really liked that mermaid tattoo. I feel like the head could be a tiny bit larger and the crown larger too but other than that it’s something I would get. The breasts are amazing, I love the tail I love the flowing big hair and I love the eel,it’s a great design.

The hair looked like shit, no flow, lack of line weight to show which parts of the hair is in-front, behind or layered. I say that confidently cause I can show to do better. Plus he argued with the judged out of emotion and not take it as constructive criticism that'd really help his skills.

I hate when the canvas says the tattoo artist has to please them before the judges. Like.... no. The artist's first priority is to try to win. The cenvas is just there to get a free thousand plus dollar tattoo. So stfu canvas, and be greatful you're getting an amazing tattoo by an amazing tattoo artist. f.f.s!!! That being said, I think Sarah is super cringe, and hella annoying 😐
@squidge9038 ай бұрын
Nah, f that. The canvas is the customer that the work is ultimately being done for and that has to suffer with it permanently if it's bad. Irrespective of the fact that they're getting a free tattoo, the show wouldn't exist without them and their wishes should be respected. A good artist should be able to work with the canvas to find a win-win for both - it's just a demonstration of another skill of the business of tattoo artistry.
@aryabolton29498 ай бұрын
@squidge903 If the canvas was paying for said tattoo, then I would agree. But they're not. They're getting a free tattoo, from a well known artist who is in a competition. The canvases know the artist has to meet the challenge, or get eliminated. There's literally one hundred thousand dollars on the line. The canvas knows this. They also know that the artist could possibly make a mistake. So I stand by my statement. However that's my personal opinion on the matter. That's also the mentality I'd have if I were a canvas for the show. I think canvases who try to make the artist do something that's possibly going to put them out of the running are just cheap a$$holes who don't want to pay for a tattoo and are incredibly selfish for not caring that the reason they're there is for the artist to do a tattoo that meets the challenge and help them win, and for helping that artist they get a free tattoo. If you want something specific that's not going to allow the artist to meet the challenge, go to a shop and pay for one.
@VorpalSnickerSnack3 ай бұрын
@@aryabolton2949 You're thinking too much about the artist, you're correct on a few things such as, it's a free tattoo and a competition. Some clients aren't cheap, it isn't any different to them walking into a shop to pay and if the artist say nah, I'll design something I want for my internal judges- not for clients. As the other comment said, a great artist looks for the middle ground win-win, something that meets the requirement for the judges and the client. Some clients are nightmares cause they've no concept of design. If the artist only thinks of the judges it's considered a bad tattoo be it in competition or studio, then if it's a badly done tattoo then it really sucks. Bad tattoos cost more money than good tattoos. Clients/artists will pay more money to cover up/laser off a "bad" tattoo. The clients suffer, monetary, physically and might feel humiliated, and the artist suffers humiliations for bad skills in studio or competition, yet still get paid or loses the competition. Hope it makes sense coming from a tattoo apprentice.
@aryabolton29493 ай бұрын
@VorpalSnickerSnack yeah! I do get what you're saying, I just feel bad for the artists competing and getting a shitty canvas. I would just let the artist do whatever they wanted to try and win, but like you said it's not cut and dry like that. Thanks for explaining 🙂 ☺️
