@@Gohanian2 to be fair if you look at music theory and acoustics in general there's a lot of math and physics involved. A lot of scientists were amateur musicians or fascinated by music. For example Albert Einstein was a self-taught violinist and wrote in his journal: “If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music... I get most joy in life out of music.” ...but yeah using a music symbol for an anatomical tattoo was a bad choice. But at least the "canvas" liked it so there's that.

@@cinyarko I mean sure that is true, but this is like if you said you were a music major and ended up with the chemical formula for dopamine cut out of your skin as your tattoo, since music makes you feel good. It just feels a little forced, and off the mark. Also I'm guessing that the canvas 'liked' it because she is a nice person who did not want to cause trouble or feel bad about the piece she just got. Usually in this show the only ones who are happy to really dig into a tattoo (and their artist) that they just got are people who were sort of troublemaker divas the whole time.

I think the Judges should make all the all their decisions in the blind. I think they make some of their decisions through their familiarity with the certain artists.

The one thing I am not a fan of with this show after watching the full eps is the judges never seem to take into account what the 'canvas' wants. They are people, they chose what they want, but if they also move around, or not able to take the pain the artist shouldn't be criticized for it. That's like asking you to draw a perfect circle on paper while the table below is shaking. I seen many an ep where they are told their line work is bad when the person getting the tattoo would not hold still. Or eps where the person wanted something that didn't fit the challenge, like wanting something cartoony and bright in color when it's about realism. That tree of life with the snakes could have looked great if that lady could have held still so everything that was to go into it could. Yet the artist in criticized for it being the way it was. I realy fail to see how that is fair. The best artist in the world cant do good if what there working on is moving around.

Yeah if they want to see if they can draw well then just do it on a pigs skin or at least be allowed to show the sketches or process then maybe less points should be counted towards the actual person getting the tattoo. But knowing artist some find excuses for everything.

I seen some eps where it's the persons first ever tattoo and they ask for this big thing and then wiggle around, cry and even tap out due to not being able to handle the pain, yet t's the tattoo artist that is to blame and criticized if it didn't go right. They should have to submit their drawings to the judges then do it on a pig skin. Or at the least have them over view HOW they are tattooing on the 'canvas' to see HOW they handle the process. As many of these artists do tell them they need to hold still so they don't jack the lines. That is NOT the artists fault if the person freaking moves. Yet there penalized for it anyway.

It looks like dude's freckles are so deep that they are on his spine. And because they are so close in color but not size, it looks like his freckles are eating his body like a cancer. And the skin rips look more like stretched and ripped pieces of cloth than actual skin. If he would've left that out, he might've had a better chance of staying. The comment about the medical journal was due to how the colors and everything I mentioned makes it look like an old, overly used medical journal with ripped pages and random drops of random fluids all over it's pages. I hope the explanation helped.=^^=

I've got my second tattoo on my back, part of it directly on my spine. In retrospective, I regret it, but I was really young back then and didn't know much about tattoos. I should've chosen a better tattoo studio/artist, who knew what he was doing and talk me through the tattoo, before he put it on my skin. I was sitting for somewhat over 3 hours, no breaks and it was extremely painful. My tattoo artist got really frustrated about the butterfly, which was directly on my spine, because he couldn't make the colour stick to it. Instead of stopping and talking with me about possible options, he painted over and over again at this one point, until it felt like it was on fire and I couldn't bear the touch of the needle any longer (which he mocked me about). After the tattoo was finally finished, I went home and had to immediately lay down, because I wasn't feeling well. Later, my partner discovered that the position of the butterfly was a huge hole in my skin on my spine (he led my hand there, so I could feel it). There was no upper skin anymore, just raw flesh and it took months to heal properly.

Okay I'm totally with you on the canvas tapping out point. But if they come in with the crazy ideas..... shouldn't the artists be able to kinda guide them through? The time requirements are fucking stupid. They should get several sessions worth of time to do a good tattoo not a few hours to do a mega detailed complex tattoo. Especially since it seems the design is part of the timeframe. If I went to a tattooist and they wanted to design and fully tattoo a complex tattoo in one session I would walk away.

As someone with a back tattoo that goes over my spine, three arm tattoos, and a thigh tattoo, my back tattoo was the easiest for me to sit through. I was chilling for the 2 hours it took and just talking with the artists in the shop. Spine tats don’t really hurt for me. My thigh and right sleeve tattoos were worse

I had three hours done on my ribs and managed to sit through it but there would’ve been no chance I would have managed to sit for 6 hours, it would’ve been too sore at that point.

You shouldn't use numbing cream. It cause the skin to get like soaked up which cases ink to get pushed out. Wouldn't recommend using it.

That is a great question, so good on you for asking! It's because everyone's skin type has different reactions, and more times than not it blows out the lines. The results would also be unknown until it's already begun, which isn't ideal for this type of competition or art form.
