Creating something completely new from scratch and recreating it is two completely different things: original authors had to come up with an idea, composition, color palette, and, finally, execution, while competitors had to only copy that fully figured out finished picture, and on a significantly smaller scale. So it doesn't matter that much how long it took original painter to do the piece, but I agree that show's time restriction make it a lot harder and maybe in some cases completely impossible to do justice to original paintings and recreate them fully.

The judging is so ridiculous, I'm starting to just think they shouldn't be allowed to use facial features as reasons for criticism unless they're talking about portraits, maybe pinups. "The Queen's forehead slopes too much and her nose is too bulbous" - and this says _what_ about the skill applied in the tattoo? You're evaluating how skilled the tattoo artist is, not how pretty you think the woman they drew is.

They were portraits.. portraits arent about personal style.. I think the point of this challenge was to test perception. That subject was so cute, such a sweet little girl, and they turned her into a freakish looking monster. I hate how that judge when completely against his morals there for the sake of the challenge, because let's be honest, that was the ugliest tattoo, and those canvases are the ones that are gonna suffer with it, yeah they look the most similar to each but both of them look nothing like the subject!!! There are many absurd decisions made here, but I can't believe that night mode of "Amaterasu the sun goddess" with long alien limbs stays (which would be hard to un-see and is hard to cover up without screwing up entire picture since it is in the middle) and "Buddha" whose top of the hands could be covered up and leave the rest of the picture original and accurate, goes home.
