You're right that Jemisin's Great Cities series was originally planned to be a trilogy! I think it got scaled back to a duology during the pandemic.

I was so happy to learn that other moms on my kids baseball team are readers too, but... all they seem to read is Colleen Hoover. I've read three, but while they're gushing, I've run out of things to chat with them past: they're compulsively readable and then I feel like trash after.

Well now I think I bailed too soon when I tried The City We Became a couple of years ago. I loved the Broken Earth trilogy but I couldn't get a foothold with City and only read a couple of chapters.

I was a little disappointed by Maame, there was so much potential but I thought the issues could have gone deeper and been more gritty (almost like a Zadie Smith novel) The writing was fine and the story an interesting one so I gave it a 3* and would recommend it I just wanted that extra oomph!

Hi Lisa - So, I have not read any. Buy my husband, who is a selective reader, has read a number of Sager’s books and highly recommends them. He says they are great audio books as well.

LOL! The Hoover comments. You’re braver than I to read not one but TWO of her books. Good on you Russell. I really want to read Maame. Sounds like my kinda story. Women figuring themselves out kinda genre. Also I MUST start the Heart Stopper series! They even have a Netflix show out! ❤

I was going to give Colleen Hoover a try because I saw it bouncing around TikTok - I think the book is It Ends With Us - but then I saw a breakdown of it and I just thought, nope, not for me. Fair play to her for her success though.

I read Verity by Colleen Hoover because of all the hype. Didn’t like it probably one star as it was an ass wiper aka the paper used to make this book would’ve been better put to use making toilet paper lmao
