Am I missing something here, you've basically printed a picture onto a transparent sheet and placed it on a white wooden background, if you printed the photo/picture onto a white sheet of paper, cut it to size and stuck it to the board (of any colour) you would have the same result without the extra cost, work or mess, it's like your trying to re invent the wheel, I'm not trying to disrespect you, it just seems like you went around all the houses on the block just to get next door

absolutely, also not a transfer. You can get a reasonable inkjet transfer by using the carrier sheet and printing directly onto the shiny side, then pressing it down on to medium while ink is still wet.

I don't get it? Why not just print a photo paper, and then put Modge podge on top of it?
@calistastudio1651
@calistastudio1651 Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing this method. After some experimenting I was able to make an important improvement. I use a plastic protective sheet as carrier. Not the thin ones with the hole on top where you have to slide in the paper from above, but the more THICKER ones that are already open on the side. They are a fraction bigger than letter format so if you cut them to size you will have 2 carriers. The big advantage is, that the plastic is thick (and has no paper backing) and it absolutely does not wrinkle when you put the Mod Podge on. (I used 3 brushed layers of Mod Podge) You can re-use the carrier after cleaning and it is still straight….. I have experimented with the Mod Podge also, done 1 batch with 50% Mod Podge and 50% transparent Elmer’s PVA school glue. I find 100% Mod Podge works excellent although the mix had a bit of better “flow”, almost no brush streaks, having said that, I stick with the Mod Podge, it’s 100% result against maybe a risk and (maybe) time and materials lost. The best part of your system is (I do mixed media collages), that I can position all the transfers on the canvas before to glue them on. Question: Do you have experience with storing these transfers for later use?

I tried this today, but the mod podge seemed to not stick to the sticker sheet. Got lots of "fisheye" all over the sheet. I tried it with 3 sheets and they all did the same thing. Not sure what could be wrong. Do I need to "clean" the sheets with alcohol or something before applying the mod podge? Hoping someone can help with a remedy. Thanks for sharing the tips!

There is decal/transfer sheet available for inkjet printers. It's used by modellers who want to make bespoke decals for their plastic model kits. It can be purchased with white backing or transparent. What you do is to print using your inkjet, wait for the ink to dry then either paint clear varnish on or use a spray to seal it in then cut around the decal (transfer in Europe) then put into a saucer of luke warm water for a minute. For best results in printed images long term use sublimation dye ink as it's less affected by sunlight. Certain ordinary inkjet inks fade over time.

Thanks for this info! I'm going to order some! I wonder if the decal sheets, and/or modpodge prints, can be used within resin projects... I'll be experimenting :)
@rbrooks2007
@rbrooks2007 Жыл бұрын
@@SJones3677 It's a pleasure! There are various model kit manufacturers around the world who make resin model kits with decal/transfer sheets included. What some modellers do is that once the decal is in place on the resin model and has dried, they then spray or paint a thin layer of varnish over the whole area to seal the edges as an added bonus. All you need to do is to go through the same process.

@@dib3385 Exactly! This isn't an image transfer. An image transfer is when you transfer a printed image directly onto another medium (wood, iron, glass, paper, etc) so that it is literally ingrained in the second item. This is gluing a picture onto another item, not transferring it.

That's what I thought,..... first. But it's an ideal way to transfer it to a transparent (and very thin) mod-podge layer that can be used as a transfer on shields of 28 mm wargame figures.... I certainly will try it. That thin mod-podge layer is flexible enough to convert to slightly curved surfaces.

You have to put it on white and you need to put a layer of mod podge over it to protect it, so why not just print out the photo on a white sticker sheet and then put mod podge over it. Or just print it on white paper and decoupage it onto the surface. I KNOW I must be missing something here. Anyone, please help me so I can see. Anyhoo....thank you for another great video. I print my picture from my ink jet , i laminate, trim, put in frame , then if house cause on fire and your picture gets covered with smoke, , get a warm clean cloth and wipe it off, I thought you was going to transfer onto clothing . What a let down . Even your everyday dust wipes right off. Plus the color in your picture it never fades.

Not "Dissing" here, but I don't get it. Take a photo, print it on a clear medium that you had to make, and work a while to put it on a white background . Would this not have looked just as good if you printed it on white paper, even photo paper and put it in the frame? I came here thinking I could find a new technique to transfer to interesting stuff, and in reality, I could have just printed the picture and put it in the frame. What am I missing?

So frustrated no matter what ways I'm trying to decoupage none work! I tried this and when I printed it on my sheet the black didn't take it just puddled up. The other colors were fine. I've tried the non-transfer hairspray method onto paper BEFORE decopaging as well and it runs. I tried the glue paper and peel off the backing with water next day. Nada Ugh I dont know what Im doing wrong. I'm following the videos.

Not sure you'll see this comment but here's to trying LOL... I tried this and the ink didn't print properly onto the mod podge layer, it was blotchy as if trying to print onto a wet or oily surface - but it is definitely completely dry and peels off a treat it's just the actual print is not good. Any idea why? Your image was very crisp and vibrant

My only question is that when you do a graphic or a photo that doesn’t take up the entire surface of the wood should you cut the paper around the edges of the graphic or image? I find that the glue from the unused part of the paper tends to leave a discoloration against the white background. How do you prevent that?
@OurUpcycledLife
@OurUpcycledLife 2 жыл бұрын
Yes it will be just the colour of the mod podge. You could a black border around the graphic or image and cut around it and that would help eliminate that . Otherwise you would just have to size the exact size of the project

Could you do this on parchment paper? Just cut it to size? Also the gift tag thins is brilliant. It’s a great idea for using up scrap paper.

I saw "transfer" and thought "onto fabric". Ooops. Does this work for transfer to fabric? What is the advantage of this method over getting a copy of the original photo to frame? Or is this printed from an uploaded photo on your phone or digital camera? (Sorry, I'm a bit of a troglodyte.)

I was wondering if you can put a picture onto wood - specifically a stained piece of wood. I am trying to transfer a black and white photo of my grandfather in his WW1 uniform. I have other photos of other family members and I would like to have a wall of honor. I really want to create them onto wood - plywood, cedar, fur, aspen or maple distressed or stained wood. Is it possible?
@OurUpcycledLife
@OurUpcycledLife Жыл бұрын
Yes you sure can but you have to be mindful that when you put your picture on a piece of wood that isn’t painted a light colour your photo will probably not show up as well that’s why I always do mine on a white background so my picture will pop and you will see it better

You may not see this comment and may have already made a video about my thought. However, I'll ask the question. Could this be glued to perspex or glass backing on a frame that might allow some hidden LED lights behind it to give the image a backlighting effect? Some images such as a sunset or afternoon beach scene might look pretty cool with some backlight through the translucent medium.

Hi! This does not work for me The mod podge does not stick to the shiny side It separates. I tried letting it dry and trying to put a second coat but the first coat lifted Can I use another type of carrier paper like maybe wax paper or parchment paper???? I have asked this question to you before but you never replied. It would be wonderful if it worked for me.. This is a mystery.....
@OurUpcycledLife
@OurUpcycledLife 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Anita I’m not sure if another carrier she will work I have only used it with the label sheets and it works fine for me you have to make sure that you’re putting it on quite thick and smoothing it out really well. If you put it on too thin it will pull up and come off your sheet really easy and you have to make sure that it’s really dry in between each coat

Some things are self explanatory. I would never feel the need to educate some one not to put wet items in a printer. Common sense. I urge you to critique yourself in sharing the do's and don'ts. You just might fine a more direct approach as oppose of over teaching will shorten your videos. So this video could have been created in just 5 minutes. I understand if you feel the need to be chatty in your tutorials.

Thank you for taking the time to watch my tutorial video and share your feedback. While I understand that some things may seem self-explanatory, it's important to remember that not everyone may have the same level of knowledge or experience. I believe in providing clear and thorough explanations in my tutorials so that everyone, regardless of their background, can learn and benefit from the information. Regarding the length of the video, I do strive to keep my tutorials as concise as possible while still providing enough detail to be helpful. However, some topics may require more explanation than others, and I want to ensure that my viewers have a full understanding of the subject matter. Again, thank you for your feedback, and I appreciate your suggestions
