David finch is hands down the best artist and teacher for art that I've ever seen, he's the reason I continued to pursue art even through all the art blocks and lack of motivation if it wasn't for him I probably would've stopped art a long time ago, and one day I hope to help people along their journey the way he's helped me and countless others on their journey.

Now that there's a David Finch brush out there and we can all draw like him at any time, we need some brushes to draw like you guys. A dry brush so we can all get that perfect dry line like Shawn. An eric brush that puts a black T-shirt on every character. And a Matteo brush that inflates our egos. Great episode!

hey guys, I am an artist as well, or at least trying to be :) I somehow stumbled across this video, but I dont know how! Probably because I already followed David Finch. Got to say I really love your conversation, and it really inspires and encourages me to keep going, to keep trying to improve myself, when I hear other artists who have already made it in this space talk about their passion. FOLLOWED... and will definitely look through your profile and listen to more of your videos!

@@inkpulp lol not from my prospective. Ive been drawing for 35 years and i refuse to stop trying to learn new things. I learn every interview. that will and should never change. But as a aspiring artist to reach that point means the respect of those you respect. tis all

David is such a humble artist to listen to, and genuinely so interested in learning and sharing those learnings. So lovely to see when this industry is unfortunately infested with others wanting to "one up" everyone else. Well, from experience anyway. Head down, do the work, enjoy the process, celebrate others success.

Excellent interview and talk with Finch, his art has always had such a sharp, technical and intense style. It is always inspiring that you all continue to seek knowledge to push your art further and stay grounded! I've been practicing with inks and now onto canvas and acrylic!

I agree with so much of what you guys said regarding style, however I think when young artists say “I need to find my style,” what I really think they’re saying is “I need to find a style of drawing in which I am comfortable.”

David is quite homest;y the Clark Kent of the comicbook industry. I see the Christopher Reeve version in his outlook on life how he treats others and when he put his work on the page he becomes Superman and still treats others with respect. A fascinating individual.

Digital is great to get all your bad drawings and practice out of the way. Just focusing on drawing and not materials, art supplies and so on.
@inkpulp5 ай бұрын
As log as your not using perspective grids, filter, and fancy brushes lol
@xixGoBL1Nxix5 ай бұрын
@@inkpulp The funny thing is all that helps if you use it and understand the fundamentals. Every single thing mentioned there can help you understand something that can translate to traditional work. Digital grids for example immediately made me understand Sean's approach to drawing vehicles and hardware. I had done it with grids and ellipses digitally, so watching him made me realize I could do the same with rulers and templates. Similarly with your inking lessons, you make some transition marks with the tip of your brush. If you learn pixel art they actually spend a lot of time focusing on those sort of transitions and how to apply them. I really think digital stuff teaches you a lot of fundamental theory and allows you to try it out with minimum time waste and hassle, so the hurdles between learning or receiving info and applying it is minimal in digital. While learning that's a fantastic thing imo. The beauty is once people get comfortable they want to move to traditional. Loads of established digital artists have switched to traditional and their work is far from weak because they were digital first. It allows more people into art and I think that's worth a lot. This outlook on digital seems to be a uniquely western comics industry thing. I don't really see people from other creative industries speak about digital in this way. The strangest thing about it is as someone who is moving into traditional work more now and thoroughly enjoying it, there is one key merit of traditional work which I have yet to see anyone talk about. Anyways this is just something I've been thinking about a lot since doing the inkpulp lessons to learn traditional stuff, makes me cognizant of the relationship between the digital and traditional. In the end like with most things it boils down to being a set of tools. How people approach it or utilize this stuff and what they get out of it is up to them. As a learning tool, I think its massively under valued.

Is there really a Finch brush, or was he just BS-ing? (Link?)
@XodgillaАй бұрын
Finch has earned the right to experiment to the outer limits of his sanity. The idea of his fans would turn on him for that says a lot about the business itself, not the craft. Be the artist, not the proxy hand for an a**hole writer or a whipping boy for the editor, or a performing monkey for some zilch who has never put pen to paper in any capacity. As for the garden variety haters - f**k em. Finch is an absolute beast and should have the freedom and agency to go Picasso on our asses.
