Great video, enjoyed that. My old stomping ground, Walthamstow. Used to course fish just over the road on the Lea and went on the reservoirs once or twice, probably getting on 50 years ago. Don't see too much information about fly fishing there so good to see something about it and I'll make sure to give it a go.

Hi Tim, I was watching you retrieving your line onto the muddy banks there at Walthamstow, please do yourself a favour and get yourself a line tray., it will give you a couple of more years for your fly line. Cheers Jimf
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex67692 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate . I do have a good line tray that I use for when I’m wading . The soft silt won’t damage the fly line at all , a quick wash in the lake at the end of the season is all you need . Thanks for the tip though . Tight lines and thanks for watching .

Great video Tim, l used a black snake booby last time I was out fishing and caught 3 on a sinking line. Bloodworms are great especially when it's cold, very interesting and informative video thanks 👍

Hope it comes in useful .. Cant beat a snake at times .. haven't had much success with them the last couple of visits , the slightly smaller boobies seem to be the way forward . Thanks for watching .

A London ex-pat I really miss my Walthamstow sessions. Unique place and the regulars are a great bunch. You're spot on with the advice - depth is everything and consistent counting is key. My only criticism is you make it look too easy, it can be a bugger to catch consistently there sometimes :)

I’ve just started using booby flies and they are definitely working, strange how you don’t see people using them more
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex67692 жыл бұрын
A lot of catch and release venues dont allow them due to the risk of deep hooking . They are such a versatile fly . Work superb like this in the vid or on the surface as a point fly when fishing the washing line . You cant beat them for disturbance or depth control . Thanks for watching .

Hi Tim. You make fishing with droppers so easy but whenever I try them I end up with tangles that mean I have to cut off leader and start again. Any tips for improving things. Typical leader length used is about 12ft and I I have used a buzzer about 5 ft from the main line and a buzzer on the point. Dropper length about 10 inches. I suspect my casting could be something to do with this but any thoughts gratefully received. Many thanks. Rob
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex67692 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob , first thing that stands out is your droppers are way too long , reduce that to 6 inches maximum dont be afraid to go down to 3 inches ! .. When your droppers are this long they are travelling to close to the main line in the loop of the cast , I would bet this is where you are having issues . Also open your arm a little in the cast to increase the line loop .. Hope this makes sense but I would definitely say its due to you using droppers way to long . Thanks for watching .

Excellent upload, never disappointed Tim,never fished their my self, looks great.was your landing net a wychwood rover , or wychwood bankman??.kind regards Mike. Norfolk. Tight lines.
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex67692 жыл бұрын
This is actually the Wychwood Boatman . Has a long extending handle , the longest in the range . A shorter net would probably have been ok with the low water levels but normally the banks are super slippery so climbing up and down them can be very tricky .

I grew up in London and never had the opportunity to fish in my life and I really want to start. I was driving past Walthamstow and saw that I could go fishing there as locally as 20 mins from home in inner London. Could you please advise me on what I need to fish as a total beginner with no equipment or experience at all. Thanks in advance!
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex67692 жыл бұрын
I would suggest a lesson with the local instructor Andy Hathaway to get you going . His advice and casting tuition will be invaluable and money well spent . Or come out and see me at Chigboro fisheries for a day . www.flyfishing-essex.com for more info .

Hi Tim what line are you using with your indicator please?
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex67692 жыл бұрын
Its an 8wt floater I think its a Rio ( I have way too many lines ! ). Its non stretch and a good distance line . When I'm fishing at range like this with an indicator that I need to strike its the only time I like a non stretch floater . Usually I would be chucking a rocket floater just for easy distance .

Novice question: if blood worm live in the sediment, why are trout expecting and happy to take them mid-water under a bung or whatever?
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex67692 жыл бұрын
You will notice that the bung set up had my bloodworm imitations set to fish on and near the lake bed . The water was only 6ft deep . Trout wont pass up an easy meal so if they are feeding on bloodworm and they see one mid water for what ever reason they wont hesitate . As the bloodworm mature they slowly move up through the water column to the surface , this is the second stage of the buzzer . They will then emerge as a fly to breed and continue the cycle .

@timjoyceflyfishing-essex67692 жыл бұрын
This is an Airflo 40 plus line . Good distance casting lines. This one was a Di 8 .. I would suggest if your looking for more distance invest in a couple of professional casting lessons before you decide on a new line , better technique will give you much more distance . Thanks for watching

Walthamstow is badly run. They close the gate at 5:00p.m before British winter time! Fishing stops at 5:00p.m before the evening rise! No way to run a fishery, need to do better than that!
@Malal-b6g4 ай бұрын
I fish there often and its open until 10pm in Spring and Early summer. Perhaps you mean the wildlife reservoirs? They shut at 5pm all year round.
