Not quite. It’s a replacement effect and they both happen at the same time, so the owner of the Vraska chooses which order to apply them. So Vraska could either enter with (6*2)-2 counters, or (6-2)*2 instead.

Technically, you can survive Vraska hitting the table and ultimating. All you have to do is get yourself to 9 poison counters. Then Vraska will give you 0, and double that to another 0. Easy as stealing candy from Fort Knox.

Worst of all, golgari and orzhov are also the best colors to counter the combos, so we have midrange decks trying to prey on midrange decks and out grind each other. Playing green black has been exhausting on the ladder. Everything is a midrange mirror and 20 minute games just to split 1-2.

I’ve been enjoying Bloomburrow standard. I modified the old Doppelgang Simic Burn deck you made a little while back, adding in the landfall burn lizard as an added wincon. And I JUST played against this deck, haha. Very fun standard so far!

You could cast Vraska using Phyrexian mana and still ultimate. This is bc you get to choose which order replacement effects apply, so you can choose to double then remove 2, meaning it will enter with 10 loyalty. This tech also works with Vorinclex and other similar effects

I think the strongest part about the talent is that it stacks. All 3 levels stack and amplify each other. ( you get ward 1 x 2 for 2 level 2 talents)

For loyalty counters, this is better than Doubling Season. DS doesn’t double the loyalty increase from using a tick up, since adding/removing loyalty is a cost, and DS specifies “if an effect…”. A cost isn’t an effect, which is something I sadly learned the hard way haha

My experience with bloomburrow is that I've been playing a pretty janky pile of racoon ramp since I don't have enough wild cards. They are way deeper and more interesting then I thought they'd be and I hope the expend mechanic returns. Drawing through most of the deck using Smuggler's Surprise, Fetch Quest, Muera, and Dragonhawk is very fun.

It's very different from Doubling Season. Most importantly, Doubling Season doesn't work as well with Vraska because it doesn't affect counters on players. It also doesn't affect counters on permanents you don't control. In return it does affect tokens you create.

The Radkos Joins Up / Hulking Metamorph combo is much harder to pull off now even though all the necessary cards are still there. The Stormsplitter combo also appears difficult to pull off. I think this one has potential. I'm 2-0 with it so far. I pulled off Vraska's ult with one phyrexian mana.

I play a fair innkeeper's talent along with stocking the pantry. For just 3 mana and whatever creature, you get a counter that lets you pay 2 to draw a card every turn. It's really funny in my raccoons deck, because it has a lot of ramp, and some roaming thrones to double up all my muerra and expend triggers. I got a funny win out of this. I had big wandertale mentor, 2 roaming thrones, and level 3 innkeeper. Opponent didn't know that meant the wandertale mentor had 3 ward 1s and wasted a removal spell on it.

no, because if you play vraska at 5 mana and 2 life, the starting loyalty will be 4, due to her compleated text, leaving her at 8. because of the wording of compleated, is not that she enters with 6 loyalty and then loses 2 loyalty. but she enter with 2 less.

Yes, this works, and Arena will auto order the replacement effects in your favor. They are both replacement effects, so you can choose to apply the x2 first, then -2 working out to 10 loyalty. You could if you wanted to choose to apply them in a different order and not be able to do the combo, but I can't think of a reason why you would.

Arena just shows you 4 because it's trying to give you a visual representation without you having to do the math. But it will auto trigger correctly. I was BAFFLED that this card dropped down to a dollar during pre-release - the moment I saw it, I knew it was at least a thirty dollar card because Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider commands a ~60 dollar pricetag (oops, down to ~50) due to doubling loyalty counters, and while it lacks the asymmetrical counter tax he does, I'd say it should be at least half as good as that. Thanks for overlooking it, though - managed to get a foil at 5bux because people just entirely glossed over the counter-doubling effect; I wish I bought more Innkeeper Coin to flip, though :Y

I'm not sure what the advantage of plotting the pillage is, especially if he's going to cast it the next turn pre land drop anyway. Like, theoretically, I get doing it on an early turn, then cashing it in later when you have a lot of lands and can dig deeper, but once you're already at 5+ lands, shouldn't you just be cashing that thing in right away?

So there are a couple reasons to do this, one is for mana’s sake, if you only have 3 mana available you can use that extra mana without wasting it. It also allows you to dodge almost any type of hand interaction, targeted discard and multiple discard as all of those are at sorcery speed. It also digs 1-3 cards deeper waiting an extra turn as you have a draw step as well as a possible land drop. Unless you are playing a hard control deck that is tapped out for this turn you pretty much always have an advantage to plotting it

@@jyrinx For the list in the video, you can trim some Lili, Pillages, and Preachers. I don't play any preachers myself, but I play it a little more controlling with Deadly Coverups. The only cards I think are core, are Vraska, Innkeeper, Bat, and Dreadknight. Everything else can be adjusted to desired playstyle/meta.

Sometimes you need more mana to finish leveling up Talent and then drop Vraska. Sometimes you need to draw talent. Sometimes you need to draw Vraska. This flexibility is why Pillage is important, it does all 3 and digs so many cards deep that even if you don't find the combo piece you were looking for, you've deterministically put yourself that many cards closer to it. If you have 40 cards in your deck and you Pillage for 16 yet find 0 combo pieces, you can probably take a second Pillage with your Pillage and search again.

You keep asking for more lands when you already have 5 lands, sometimes even castin Pillage the Bog to get a 6th land. You can cast Vraska for 5 mana, the doubling from Inkeepers Talent will happend before the loyalty reduction from compleation so you can still ultimate right away.
