I think you really got to give it to Tokyo Marui for designing such a good base system, where it’s really hard to do something substantially better after 30 years

Absolutely, it's a solid design and worked well with the technology of the day, I'm looking forward though to seeing if a new standard is emerging!

I believe one of the reasons for the continued use of Tamiya style connectors is that crimping is quicker and requires less skill than soldering. Both time and skill are production costs and so it's obvious that by keeping Tamiya these can be minimised

Good point, though it hasn't stopped the RC industry using them or xt60s!

I heard that Systema/Ares are putting out a new gearbox, but I knew nothing about them. So this video really helped

I wonder what happend to the French guys that made a V2 gearbox that used 2 electromagnets with a chipboard to drive the airdump out of the cylinder. Basicly a 3 part gearbox . Cylinder magnets and chipboard. (excluding trigger wiring ).
@EnglishKiwi3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, I remember watching their vids, they had the cylinder up and running but I don't think they got the nozzle working, or got the electronics compact enough to go in the gun.

Wasn't Real sword working on something like that?
@EnglishKiwi3 жыл бұрын
@@uazfoursixnine it would be cool if they were, but the TM patent is so wide ranging it'll be a pain to work around

Informative video. Always interesting the difference between the M249/Minimi gearbox and the GPMG/ FN MAG one.
@EnglishKiwi3 жыл бұрын
I had a 249 I worked on recently. Stupidly I forgot to compare the two gearboxes!
@derdersoft3 жыл бұрын
The 249 is an absolute brick. While on the topic of support guns, would a brushless motor be a good contender to power one? Or would the extra electrics be a minus?
@EnglishKiwi3 жыл бұрын
In theory they'd be great for support guns as they don't wear out. Provided the electronics are designed to handle the currents drawn by sustained bursts and the gearbox can be designed to sink enough heat out of it, it should just run and run!

I'm just waiting for the day where Marui's 'rail gun' style piston design can compete with this.

And aside from TM who also make toy cars (at least according to wiki) so probably have a bit more diversification to support innovating, I don’t know if any of the other “big” names have this to make taking the risk worth it. Also because airsoft is still so niche, I don’t think you see enough early adopter people to make taking a punt on new tech so manufacturers probably don’t see the point as the market isn’t really looking for it. Everyone still loves to buy an M4. Also innovative new products are quite expensive and as someone has pointed out, people give others grief for spending more than £200 on a rifle…
@EnglishKiwi3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, without having diversity in your business every new design you produce will have risk. Good point about early adopters, we did discuss that most people say don't buy gen 1 of anything as it probably needs refinement, but the counter is if no one buys the gen 1, gen 2 will never get made! I'd say cheaper rifles have their place, but we do need to support innovation as well.

Hello mate, found you because of your ICS L85 rotary hop up unit. Are you still working on this, even if not, I would LOVE to at least purchase the 3D printing files to swap out with my clapped out unit.

Lack of innovation, personally I blame all of the TM clones that come out of China, they have completely sown up 95% of the market. People are tight, there’s a huge community of people on UKAC who would rather buy 3 low end RIFs from TaiwanGun than buy one high end RIF from a UK retailer.
@EnglishKiwi3 жыл бұрын
Clones are indeed an issue, but do serve a purpose as offering a low cost way into Airsoft. You've got to bear in mind though for every person shouting on ukac about Taiwangun there's someone shouting about recoils, so theres definitely people out there who will want to spend the cash on new and unique systems.

Someone's fishing for a freebie from Ares! Their copying systemas gearbox and cylinder design that has been around for decades and adding in systemas latest interation in a cheaper way. This is not convergence, its copying.
@EnglishKiwi3 жыл бұрын
Really not bud, just discussing current Airsoft affairs, if you look at more of my content you'll see I'm not exactly an Ares fan as they've managed to mess up most of their current British service rifle designs 😂 I've discussed this more at length with people on Facebook, but the gear train design is substantially different to the systema and looks to be using the conventional v2/v3 spur and sector gears and not the helical planetary gear arrangement systema use. With regards to their cylinder design I don't think they've shown that yet as the demo with the open gun doesn't show any way of locking the upper into the lower (where the cutout in the rear of their gearbox is). They may well still copy the systema tappetless design and if they do I'll hold my hands up to that!
