For those who don't know, this is popcorn but made from rice, mixed with liquid sugar, the taste is sweet, savory, there is a slight aroma of fragrant burnt rice, Plus the liquid sugar coating adds to the deliciousness of this snack... and the crunchy texture is like styrofoam, seriously the texture is like styrofoam This is a very delicious snack, even though it is a snack from the days of my grandparents, it is still relevant and delicious today

Each bamboo stick holds the sweatened rice that will be "popped " in the very hot "black" frying sand. The "black" sand and the "popped" sweatebed rice are separated later by sieve filters. Never tasted this before. Must be delicious for this ancient cooking tradition to survive. One parallelabd similar cooking method is roasting chestnut with black sand or stones that has been coated with sugar and oil for the aroma. The chestnuts, still in the whole shell, and are literally stirred fried in the very hot black pebbles or stones scented with a sweet smell of sugar.

We have the same exact snack in the Philippines called Pop rice. But I am not sure if the cooking technique is the same. It has a texture of a styrofoam, slightly sweet and its fun to eat. Seeing this brings back my childhood memories 🥰.

In indonesia we call this rengginang, we use rice bekas nu teu ka dahar, laju di poe indah garing laju karak di stirfriyer like this, and di aduk jeng sugar. 😂😂😂

Definitely a cooking show for this young man. The culinarily arts are always looking for unique methods and foods. This is right up the foodie folks alley. Someone with capital and imagination can capitalize on Lao’s unique and truly organic cuisine. I don’t think Lao would object to make some serious money and gaining popularity. Love this young man. Blessings to Lao. He is already a rich man . He has enough food to share with others.
