@@Edax_Royeaux houd be suprised, the weight and the reloads aren't that conducive to fast rapid hits. A SMLE with a competent shooter would be very very close. The chauchat was a beautiful weapon in the French calibre garbage in the conversions.

I hear people all the time saying that it was the most worthless automatic weapon ever fielded, and I'm really glad that I now have a really good reference when I set those people strait. Great video thanks for continuing to make these guys even though you don't make as much money off of them. We all really appreciate it.

That was amazing and shows exactly why people watch! I learned something and had preconceptions totally destroyed. We are a century away from why these design decisions were made and lost the reasons. Ian you clearly showed why an aluminum sleeve was used even if it jammed after 150 rounds. Weight. The gun was. only needed for 150 round battles. Any more a stationary mg was needed. In the math of war a Chauchat gunners life was expended. In any case there would be available battlefield pickups. In a few minutes you explained the brilliance and horror of WW1

You should change the sight of your G98. There was an accessory to put on the "handlebar" of the rifle to switch to 200m. In 400m sight, germans soldiers had the order to aim the kneeves to shot in the chest when enemis where at 100m. And to aim the belt when enemis where at 200m.

LoL to drawing a C96 from those holsters while on the run. Again I am amazed at the trouble free performance the stripper clips gave that pistol. I have seen such on my own, but often experienced balking and hesitation half way down. In truth removable, slap in pistol magazines were a major weapons advance and given a choice I am sure many German infantry men preferred a Luger with a few loaded magazines.
