Some people are not willing to walk away even though time is far more valuable than sitting there and talking to that brick wall.

@@pierce6635 I just bought a car 2 weeks age. What I started to do, is at first gas light I run for the door. Once I say 1 logical thing and get an illogical response I run. Had to go to 7 different dealerships but finally was able to buy and have the most pleasant experience I've ever had. It also kept all the other dealers to only take about 45min of my time, 30 of those minutes being a test drive. Random story, one dealership on the test drive asked if they gave me $10,000 off would I buy today. I said yes absolutely. They said great! and when we got back the price was not $10,000 off so I asked what happened to the deal from the test drive? They said "That's completely insane no one would do that deal". To which I replied "Are you literally stupid? You offered it out to me, you should not have said anything if you couldn't actually do it, I'm out". That's the first time I've actually called someone stupid it felt bad after but the words just came out.

@@jamespn , I have done this since 1999. I have been the top earner at a store before. I know what it takes to be successful. The issue here is that dealer mark-up on new cars is roughly half what it was when I started. It's much harder to avoid a mini commission on a new car. Even deals at MSRP do not pay as well today as they used to pay. Dealer packs go up, but the mini commissions stay the same. Fighting for gross was not as desperate a game 20 years ago. We were able to make money as salespeople and sales managers pretty easily. It's not the same anymore. 12:35 this sounds really disingenuous to me? "It's totally fine if you guys don't want to sell a car." or lines prior to that? "Well I guess you want me to go to your competition then, don't you." It seems like these conversations could have a very simple exchange respectably? Tomi: "I want to buy a car." Dealer: "I would like to sell you a car. I can do a deal at MSRP." Tomi: "I have an offer for a car 2,000$ below MSRP." Dealer: "That's a good offer. I won't be able to match it, but if you still want to buy from us, this is what we're offering." Tomi: "Thank you for your offer. I'll be taking the best price available to me." It feels very shoddy and weird to say to someone: "Your refusal to meet someone else's lower price constitutes a desire not to sell a car." - Particularly in a race to the bottom scenario where you could then phone someone else, and say: "Now I have someone else who's willing to give me 2,250 off MSRP." and repeat the process.

@@craigfin3222 Hello @craigfin3222. Thank you for your answer! I do have to say that I'm new to this channel. I enjoy a lot of business content on youtube so I end up going down a rabbit hole of say of 'laundromat guys' who want to screw landlords over on rent or get a crack at leasing a space for a business without buying the business itself. They therefore call the landlord and try to undermine and trash the current operator with hopes of scaring the landlord into wanting to do deals with them from places of desperation. So when I found this channel, I saw a playlist of a few videos so far and my 'eek factor tingle' you could say... starts to kick in when I see tactics designed to screw people over, more or less. In the case of some negotiations here... there's a gentleman who tells him: "I can do a deal at MSRP" or "I can even take a 500$ loss to work with you but you want me to lose even more." Instead of just saying: "If that's your best offer, I have to go with the competition." (which I would respect, and I feel like the dealers would also respect, some telling him: "If that's the deal you got, that's a great deal, you should take it.") Tomi seems to double down and say things like: - "Oh so you're sending me to a competitor." - "I want to talk to a sales manager. I feel like they'd want a chance to undercut this offer." - "You're willing to lose a customer and a sale by not giving me what I'm asking for." I mean... in business one of the first things you realize is that there is such a thing as a bad customer. You should not be herded into a race to the bottom. And while I completely respect a customer looking to get the best deal they can, it's a bit different when you start pressuring people to lower their price beyond what they want to, instead of just thanking them for their time and leaving them alone if they don't offer you what you want. In good faith, you could say to someone: "I feel like they'd really want to do this deal and we're close on price, so I will let them know what I'm offering and ask them if they'll give it to me." but it's another thing to keep badgering them if they tell you what their price is, and express to you that they are not happy to go lower. If I go to a retail store and I argue a price, they'll tell me to go where I can buy what I want for cheaper, or I can wait until what I'm looking for goes on sale. Some retail locations will have a 'price matching policy' and it makes sense. I think, genuinely I enjoy the concept of negotiating but I see it (ironically, Tomi has mentioned this) as a game of chess as well. In the aforementioned case where 'laundromat experts' try to bully and badger landlords into taking bad deals by having sleazy prepared lines, such as: "I don't have to pay what's commensurate for the area, because I run laundromat, and I have to spend hundreds of thousands in equipment, you need to give me a break on rent. Here's what I'm willing to pay. If you accept, great. If you don't, then you're an idiot who'd rather deal with someone who doesn't know what they're doing and you're a bum." etc. When you enjoy the art of negotiating and playing the game with people, you can examine the game from both sides. In the case of what I've seen here with Tomi, it just feels like whether you're an honest salesperson or not, Tomi is going to grind you into taking a bad deal. If you accept, and give him what he wants, fine. If not... he'll try to go over your head to a sales manager, or he'll tell you that you're missing out on some great sale by not participating in the race to the bottom by undercutting or matching other offers he brings. In some of the videos I've seen, the person he talks to basically tells him: "I can do this deal at MSRP" or I can do this deal at X. If that doesn't work for you, I wish you all the best in your other offer." And where that should be the end of it (Tomi never has to accept their deal, he can always just take the best one he has on hand or continue to wait) he chooses to twist that knife and make the sales person feel like they are doing something wrong or 'missing out on an opportunity' by not giving him what he wants.

I appreciate your comments. You have to realize, that sales people don’t control pricing. Sales managers do. So when a sales person just says “no”. This is not only against there process, it’s a 100% sign they “don’t want to sell a car”. I negotiate a lot of car deals. Online and over the phone, dealerships want to see your serious. If you call, ask for them to beat and price and they say no. And you say “bye”. They don’t treat you as a serious buyer. They want you invested in the deal. You mention the 500 dollar deal. That’s my most popular negotiation. I stayed on the phone 20 min and got what I want. That approach is much faster for these discounts than calling 5 dealerships and asking them all the same question. It’s more effective.
@ryanmac3587 ай бұрын
Effective and tactical but you have to admit you’re goating these sales people. “You obviously dont want to sell a car””you just want me to give my money to your competitor”. Walnut Creek Toyota will sell at MSRP no added mark up. I spoke to a sales rep recently as I'm lookin for a 2025 Camry. They are in the Bay Area about 25 miles from Doin it right LMAO lol

Before covid cars were selling below msrp. Now it's okay to buy at msrp? I bought my 2019 xse v6 fully loaded for 30k out the door price. msrp was 36k back in 2019. They must have thought I was going to finance the car. At finance when he told me the interest rate .I pulled out my check book and wrote a check for 30k. I could tell the finance guy was upset after that lol.

Buy Subaru, Mazda and Nissan instead. They are also great autos that can be purchased at much, much prices than Toyota. Even Honda has much better value than Toyota. 🎉

TOYOTA tax. Heard mentality. Toyota is very good, but they have a tighter supply at dealerships, so dealers over price them in compared to over high quality choices. 🎉

First guy was so close, he needed to send Tomi the lease worksheet showing the residual and a true no start up 0 down (real sign and drive). Then explained with him looking at it the residual, the buyout fee if there is one, add the sales tax of the state (and title license doc fee etc.) showed the 2 different end results, AND also mentioning that if the customer does drive it and does not like it they have an opportunity to get a new car or keep that one.

I'm trying to buy 100 vehicles for a client, you have no idea the hoops that one has to jump through to get a decent fleet discount. Then I got hold of the salesperson from heaven, he told me that he can get me 15% off and if that's not satisfactory, I should just deal directly with the factory who may even discount the purchase further. I am not from the USA, however I think most car dealers are born in the same place as they all play stupid games. Just get to the point and give the price stop playing the haggling Arabian market type of scenario. Give me your best discount and finished. Some advertise 10% off, however when the quote arrives its only 4% off with other costs added on. I tell them that we haven't started negotiating, one dealership offered me a "free car" if I bought them the business...ie "go easy on the discounts son..." Its like debating Biden dealing with these guys 😂..

I wouldn't quite say that the guy was yelling at you. That's just how Middle Eastern people talk..... Khaleesi sounded Middle Eastern to me. I had a previous job where I dealt with a lot of them and a lot of times they might sound like they are yelling or louder but thats just the norm. Let's be real though, you are kind of gaslighting him. He told you several times he couldn't do under msrp. I know you are just trying to make content for this channel though.

Sounds like the dude from the Jerky Boys. Also these Toyota dealers are nuts. But I do have to ask, do you ever close any deals, I never see that on your videos.
@craigfin32227 ай бұрын
Technically, the deal is not closed UNTIL the papers are signed and the keys are in the clients hands. That would invade the client's privacy.
