It actually shows how insecure you are if you really think everyone driving a nice car is doing it just to impress you. That's hilarious. Also id be willing to bet you have purchased things like Starbucks or an apple phone.. When in reality you could have saved money buying a cheaper phone.. Or making the coffee at home.... Oh are you gonna say but the iPhone is just better... Higher quality.. Ohhh kind of like a luxury car is?.... 🤷🤷🤷🤷. Also serious question.... Have you ever drove say a new bmw in the last few years?... And if money wasnt the issue are telling me you wouldn't even consider buying one?....

Lease calculations are crazy confusing. I almost never want to negotiate a lease ever.
@jerrylundegaard25927 ай бұрын
Actually lease payment calculations are not complex. The things needed are capitalized cost (the amount financed), the residual value (set by the manufacturer or leasing company), and money factor (the interest rate divide by 2,400). The calculation has two parts. Part One: (Capitalized Cost less Residual Value) divided by the lease term (months). Part Two: (Capitalized Cost plus Residual Value) multiplied by the money factor. Add the two amounts for the monthly lease payment. Car dealers count on customers not spending the minimal effort to understand leasing. As with any customer, a lease customer with no knowledge is a car sales person's dream.

You’re negotiating a lease all wrong. Ignore the monthly payment. Dealers love to talk only payment on leases. Ask what the money factor is, the residual percentage, the annual miles and the selling price. Don’t put money down on a lease. Only pay out-of-pockets on a lease (acq. fee, licensing, etc.) Let’s say you put $5,000 down on a lease and drive it off the lot. On the way home, you total the car. Your insurance company will pay off the lease but you are out your $5,000. If you are good with sales price, money factor, miles and residual value, the monthly payment will be what it will be. I taught university MBA students and Master’s of Accounting students leasing for years and have leased over 50 vehicles. DO NOT PUT MONEY DOWN ON A LEASES in order to reduce monthly payments.
@Delivrd6 ай бұрын
Yes I understand that. My client makes the decision on what they want. They want to put the cash down. I know the money factor and residual already. I don’t need them to tell me this. Negotiating the payment I’ve already calculated is only possible at buy rate with a 10% discount

Buyers are liars 101. My only motivation is to join the "cool kids club". Good one. You are attempting to lease a car, not buy one. The bank is buying the car, not you. As the customer, you can negotiate the payment, but it's up to the dealer how they get to that payment. He can discount the car or discount the lease rate, but he's not likely to do both. If you are not a local customer who is likely to buy again, send referrals, and use the service drive, you are not worth a huge discount to that dealer. The only exception might be distressed inventory. That's not an X1, though. Also, generally speaking, the most the dealer can profit on the back end of a lease is 1 point. It's not going to jump from 7% to 19%.

@@Delivrd, It's not on the final paperwork for a reason. The customer can effectively reduce the rate by demanding a lower payment. If it makes sense to the dealer to accept the deal, he will. But customers who think they can build their own lease should open their own dealership if they want that privilege. Or, try negotiating directly with their bank on a lease. See how far you get with that.
@leonardyoung68217 ай бұрын
@mg-yg4lc, No offense taken! Knowing the cost of the dealer's financing is no more empowering to the customer than knowing the invoice cost of the vehicle. Just because you know my cost, it doesn't persuade me to sell it for my cost. The market sets the price, not our cost. If it's a hot seller, you are not getting a discount. If it's super hot and exclusive, you may pay above MSRP. If it's a slow mover, even my cost may be a price too high to justify doing a deal. The cost is completely immaterial to negotiations. It's all about relative value, not price or cost.
@leonardyoung68217 ай бұрын
@mg-yg4lc, buy rate pays virtually zero, so I guess finance doesn't have to eat. Same thing for the salesperson if you buy the car close to cost. But, I wouldn't expect people to care about anything but their own selfish interests. If everyone else has a hard time, but you get what you want, you win. Congrats.
@leonardyoung68217 ай бұрын
@mg-yg4lc it is useless, because at the end of the day it's only one factor in determining your payment on a lease. You don't pay a money factor. You pay a payment. The dealer can rob Peter to pay Paul if you focus on the money factor. Then you have to argue and fight over every small detail of the lease contract. Does anyone find this appealing? No, it's much better and easier to negotiate just one item, which is the item that actually comes out of your bank account. Negotiate the payment with however much money you want to put down.
